…Do people realize that “AI” itself isn’t inherently “evil”, it’s what is being used to feed / being replaced by ai which is the problem.

Taking someone’s art without their permission and putting it into an AI generator in order to create what you want is wrong because you’re essentially using their art without their permission and for the purpose of avoiding paying them for a comission.

The Spiderverse crew training their own AI to assist with the production of the movie is not theft, it is merely treating the AI as a tool used to help the animators.

Taking someone’s unfinished fanfic and plugging it into an AI to generate the ending of it is messed up because you’re training the AI with someone’s creation that they didn’t consent to.

Someone plugging their own writing into an AI in order to have the AI spit back writing in their style, while controversial within the writing community, is technically not stealing anyone’s content.

I see a lot of posts that are like “ew we hate AI because it sucks. It can’t draw hands right. It only writes predictable plot points” okay but what about when it doesn’t. What about when it gets to the point where it can produce content that is indistinguishable from something purely human made. Then what. It’s not how it looks, or how it feels, that’s the issue, it’s the fact that stolen content and replaced labor are happening. It happens with any automated process. AI is a tool. It’s what happened with automation. Instead of humans having to do 100% of the work, automation helps so things are less strenuous for people. Did some people lose their jobs? Yes. Have we learned from this mistake as a society and provided either pay raises or alternate employment for these people? No.

if you generate motion tween frames you’re using “ai” tools. content aware fill has been a photoshop feature for years! Just like metaverse pretending second life hasn’t been offering their experience but better for over a decade, ai bros are trying to repackage this stuff as new tech to appeal to investors.

I highly recommend this video about AI’s impact and potential place in the commercial design industry it’s really good from someone with experience in commercial design:

I really like his proposed use for ai where designers input their hand drawn concepts into the ai and have it generate a slew of variations and hybrid designs to assist in the early exploration phase. The difference is these are still professional employed artists who are doing the creative work and telling the ai to mess around with their own work. i think that would be an awesome tool because drawing 20 slightly different variations of a logo’s composition isn’t riveting work.

These tools can be really useful in the right context with the right rules in place, the issue isn’t machines taking our jobs it’s capitalism screwing over workers

quick what is everyone doing right now

okay reblogging this again just to say that i love love love reading these,, like it's so incredible how we're all doing such vastly different things at the same time...ik it's an obvious thing but it's also insane to think about.

can somebody tell me why it matters that reddit is banning 3rd party apps or whatever it is i truely do not understand why it is so crucial to use a 3rd party app to view reddit like why would you need to. why should i give a shit

Okay, from my understanding of it:

So the third party mobile apps are seen by some to be better than the official Reddit mobile app, as the official one tends to be very buggy and lacks a lot of essential accessibility features.

But that's not the main issue, that's just a loud grievance from the community.

The main issue is that Reddit is changing their API pricing, like shitlord Musky did to Twitter.

This means that all third party service that is connected to Reddit suddenly has to pay WAY more than they had to before.

Which means that the bot accounts and features on Reddit are about to get extraordinarily more spendy to run. This sounds good right? Well...

So Reddit works by having subreddits that the users set up, right? This means it's on the users to moderate their own subreddit, this work is purely voluntary.

While smaller subreddits can manage with human moderation of posts, larger subreddits quickly spiral out of control. Bots are used to moderate many large subreddits, and many third party apps are needed by moderators to run their subreddits.

Which all means that it's now going to be infinitely more expensive to run a subreddit.

Without moderation subreddits quickly delve into hate mongering shit post groups; people can just post gore or sexual content around the website without the filters to catch them.

TLDR:

It just got WAY more expensive to run subreddits, so people are leaving.

We'll lose many subreddits and possibly even their content.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh i see ok that makes MUCH more sense. thank u and ty to the people in the replies too i appreciate it
