Untitled, sorry

@spacemurica

Later in the interview, he noted, "The whole volume of the submersible collapses in about 2 milliseconds, and it takes 25 milliseconds for the human brain to detect a threat. So it's not so much that you die, it's that you cease to exist. It's almost the Perfect End."

Finally, a painless way of killing billionaires.

And the great thing was he used all the cheapest materials so we can easily crowd fund a fleet of them to implode billionaires at a fraction of the cost of more traditional billionaire killing methods.

You. You get it.

Which of these would you rather see on your dash?

Hey @staff. This is a perfect example of why collapsed reblogs is such a bad idea. Seeing the full thread, you go like this: 😮 ooh, that's cool 😀 "they're free," hehe! 🤣 "16 cents," perfection!!

I have achieved joy, I feel positive feelings toward Tumblr, I want to engage, I want to stay, my eyeballs land on more ads, you make more money, everyone wins! 🎉

Seeing the collapsed thread, you go like this:

😮 ooh, that's cool 😐 "16 cents"? yes, that's literally what the pic shows, not sure why you felt the need to say that

There is no motivation for me to uncollapse the reblog chain—it looks like a boring conversation about the denominations of coins. And even if I do uncollapse it, you've ruined the joke by showing me the punchline before the setup. I am sad, Tumblr is boring, I go elsewhere to entertain myself, I see less ads, you make less money, everyone loses. 😥

Reblog chains are the best thing about Tumblr. They are your unique super power. They are the thing that makes people screenshot Tumblr and share it around. Why on earth would you kneecap them??

I don't know exactly how you plan to implement this. Give people the option to keep them collapsed if there truly are people who are annoyed by how long they can get (you already have a version of this feature), but don't collapse them for everyone or new users by default. Please. It will make Tumblr so much more boring.

8 week embryo doing a wiggle

notice how it’s called an embryo and not a baby

Researchers using brain scanning methods on unborn babies think that fetuses probably feel pain around the same time that the somatosensory system finishes its development — about week 29 or week 30 of pregnancy.

I vote you’re good to abort as long as the fetus doesn’t feel pain lol

I think it's a bit more nuanced than that...

Murderers just can't help themselves

First, I believe your understanding of fetal pain is outdated. I highly recommend reading "Reconsidering fetal pain", by Derbyshire and Bockman (2020).

Second, if you want to do even MORE research into fetal pain, may I recommend:

Third: are humans not full people when they temporarily lack the capability to feel pain? A human prenate has the capacity to feel pain from the moment of conception because it is in the nature of her essential kind.

Her apparent access to that ability is temporarily limited by her development, but are you really willing to say you think the age-appropriate inabilities of a human being disqualify her from equal protection from violence? That her present capability is what defines her humanity, rather than her latent capacities? That's lethal ableism.

Human embryos are tiny people. Human embryos are babies. You don't get to "vote" on it. That you think you're entitled to disqualify an entire class of humans from equal rights is not only shameful hubris; it's exploitation of your power over the powerless. You want to dehumanize human beings to justify their murder. That is oppression, and it is fucked up.

For anyone who ever asked me where ideas come from. They creep in and breed when you’re making something else.

The Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River superimposed on a map of Europe

Avatar

…OH.

I googled it once and the only reason why the Great Lakes aren’t called inland seas is because they are entirely freshwater, not salt.

By any other metric they’d be seas. Superior especially (the big one in the upper left) behaves like a small ocean, and has claimed at least 250 ships and over 1000 people. Gordon Lightfoot wrote a frankly chilling song about her that I’ll include here:

Reblogging for the map as well as for Gordon Lightfoot.

Allow me to elucidate, @a-sour-nectarine

When most people "roll their eyes", they flick their eyes directly upward, usually as far as they comfortably go, then resume looking normally.

When someone who learned the phrase before the behavior does it, they usually go in a circular (ish) motion. Since most eye movements are lines, it's usually pretty triangular: the key points are usually a diagonal up one way, then to the far other side, then to a diagonal low the first way. Thus, the eyes basically make a loop, so they "rolled".

I've found that when people who learned the up-down way first try the circular motion, they might risk motion sickness, so experiment carefully.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK UP
