People who drink coffee: why did you start?

I don't drink coffee and I've never wanted to, but that's obviously ~not normal~, so I'm curious why most people do start drinking it.

Additional question: People who don't drink coffee, why?

For me, it's because, as a child, I was incredibly cranky, and as soon as caffeine-free Coke was introduced, Mom had me start drinking that, and, hey, I got a lot less crabby, so that made me want to avoid caffeine. I also never really cared for the smell of coffee, either, so had absolutely no interest in drinking even decaf.

(and yes I am very aware that "it makes me feel better" and "love the way it smells" are top answers in why people do drink it XD)

I have no interest in playing the cycle of "gotta inject myself with ENERGY so I can HANDLE MY DAY and then DO IT AGAIN AT 4PM to AVOID THE CRASH".

If I'm tired, I'm tired. I will find my own way to wake up. I hate coffee culture and caffeine is a bane on my existence

When trans people are killed I don’t rejoice I feel sad and want the person who did that to them to go to jail.

I don’t think any radfem or gender critical person would be happy about an innocent trans person getting sick and dying.

Don’t lose your humanity for yourself of others just because you don’t like someone’s opinions.

I’ve read that Magdalene is in palliative care and it doesn’t have to mean someone is dying.

I’m stubbornly trying to hold out hope that she’ll pull through. If I read she’s in hospice care then I’ll know she really is dying.

I don’t want to be a downer for no reason, but we have to face facts and hopefully make this time a time of grace and appreciation for Magdalen. There really is little chance of coming back from glioblastoma. Its nature is to be virtually inoperable, and treatments don’t do much to slow its regrowth. If you have seen her last video or two, you will see the toll that the treatment takes.

Edit: this is not to say there’s no hope–https://www.webmd.com/cancer/brain-cancer/qa/what-is-the-outlook-and-survival-rate-for-glioblastoma. There is some. I’m thinking of what we’ve seen Magdalen go through in the past year.

My hope is that we do not let ourselves get dragged through the mud that these horrible people are going to be slinging at Magdalen or let them turn her passing into just another online battle. Definitely, stay angry, but maybe consider not posting ugly, hateful anons like the one at OP.

Magdalen Berns is and was a miracle–a brilliant, funny, incisive, lovable, and incredibly effective activist against the prevailing woman-hating rhetoric. She did so much with the short amount of time she’s had to get her message out that it’s truly stunning. She seemed to come from nowhere and hit a chord with thousands of women. The best we can do is try to be more like her.

Palliative does mean end of life care. My heart is broken. She is so important and funny and strong. 

Honor her in life by showing her your love and support while she’s still here with us and honor her beyond by keeping her in your heart as you fight on in her name.

She’s already stated it’s terminal, from what I’ve heard. It’s a terrible shame. A terrible thing. Cancer in general is just terrible.

 And if anon isn’t just being a too-edgy-5-u troll I hope they never have to go through the loss of a friend or family member from cancer. I know they haven’t, because it really makes you not want to joke about it.

I do not know where to even begin.

A year ago, somebody told me I was on a terf blocklist, and I didn’t know why because I’m trans myself and never reblogged or posted remotely transphobic, misogynistic or anything like that???

Then, not so long ago, somebody tagged me on said blocklist and I was then able to reach out to the OP and they didn’t know themselves why I was even there, and we just concluded it was a mistake????

And NOW, you mention me here (thank you for that btw) and I can assure you that I am not the person who made the previous reblogs!!!

So, I guess that my theory about having accidentally reclaimed a terf url, only to make it trans positive is slowly becoming more and more likely, and honestly I would find it extremely delightful and oh so ironic if it turns out to be the case.

The thing that kills is the people in the tags claiming that ecigs and vapes were invented to help people quit smoking. No. No they fucking weren’t. You see back in the late 90s/early 2000s, smoking was already starting to decline. Not only that, but states continued to pass anti-smoking legislation like outlawing smoking in bars and restaurants, increasing taxes on tobacco products, restricting the kind of advertising that tobacco companies could use to sell cigarettes, etc. This scared the shit out of tobacco companies. They were smart enough to see the future and it didn’t look good for their profits. That is how things like ecigs and vapes were born. It was a way for them to continue to get people addicted to their products (the nicotine in ecigs and vapes is extracted from tobacco) and still have a captive market, while getting around all the regulations. Now most of the major vape companies are owned by companies that are cleverly hidden subsidiaries of big tobacco companies. It was never about helping people quit smoking. People were already doing that (or never starting in the first place) all on their own, thanks to decades of public health campaigns. It was always about profits and keeping as many people addicted as possible so they would never go out of business.
