Re: The Council's decision to go to Naboo for Qui-Gon's funeral... There's also something heartfelt about them not forcing Obi-Wan to travel home with his body alone (besides Anakin, but at that point, they don't really know each other), Instead they come to him. It just feels so "don't worry, we'll be right there and take care of things" to a young man whose just lost a father figure/teacher and it feels so compassionate, even when they're dealing with their own grief and confusion.
There's something heartfelt to me that it's happening on Naboo at all--yes, they're dealing with the return of the Sith, but it seems kind of overkill to bring them all out there for that, when they could just as easily have sent only two or had everything shipped back to them to take care of it on Coruscant. Instead, they're all there, they're honoring what Qui-Gon gave his life for, the place and people Qui-Gon gave his life for, that they're connected to Naboo, just as much as they're connected to being Jedi.
That Obi-Wan didn't have to travel home alone with Qui-Gon's body, that the Jedi didn't just withdraw from what Qui-Gon's actions meant to Naboo, but instead shared his funeral with the people there--it's interesting how, whenever we see Jedi funerals, it's not just Jedi who attend, that we see their connections to other people in the galaxy by who shows up to say goodbye to them, Qui-Gon is no different. They loved Qui-Gon and they shared their ritual of saying goodbye to him with the people that were also honoring him, they shared their time and compassion with a young man who had just lost his Master who may have needed the extra guidance in those moments. Obi-Wan had plenty of spirit left to him, he still had plenty of defiance to say that he was going to train Anakin, and the Council agreed with him, even if Yoda didn't think it was a good idea, but you can see the affection on Obi-Wan's face when Yoda says that they've agreed to make him a Knight, like, yes, Obi-Wan will defy them when he feels he needs to, but he likes them, that little smile says so much. Even when he's arguing with Yoda, he does so in a firm but gentle way, and that too says so much about how Obi-Wan cares about their guidance. I just really like all of it!!! That they showed up for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and Naboo!! That all of these Jedi will do what they must, but they love and care about each other and show up for each other!!! I just love that caring for someone isn't just wearing your heart on your sleeve, it's showing up and being there even when you're dealing with your own grief!!! That's why it's so touching that Qui-Gon clearly loved them back, that his voice is so affectionate when talking to Yoda in TCW and he spends all this effort teaching the living Jedi how to keep their consciousness in the Force. The Jedi loved Qui-Gon and Qui-Gon loved the Jedi and wanted them with him and they wanted to be with him, too!! They all loved each other and I'm feelings about that!!
