One of those shots was into the lower back of one Patrick Doherty. While he was already injured, and on the ground crawling away from L.Cpl Cleary.
The man he was shot in the head was Barney McGuigan. Who stepped over Doherty, waving a white flag, in an attempt to help the man.
In response to this, L.Cpl Cleary dropped to one knee, took aim, and shot Barney McGuigan directly in the head.
Cleary was not just an indiscriminate killer shooting at random. Descriptions of the day tend towards cold and mechanical adjectives.
