I honestly cannot state how much I appreciate every single one of you for following this little blog of mine. It hasn’t even been one full year since this blog has been created and it has already gotten more love than it truly deserved.

Since I’m not an artistic person, here is a little something that I wrote for you guys.

“Ms. Luthor!” A reporter exclaimed, side-eyeing the agitated man who had pushed her in his attempt to get his question across. Ignoring him, she set her hazel eyes strictly on the woman whose presence alone was demanding everyone’s attention. “Ms. Luthor! Are the rumors about you being romantically involved with Supergirl true?”

The reporter was struck frozen as Lena Luthor’s green eyes bore her down. A gaze so sharp, the reporter felt as if she was being cut open and her insides were being closely examined. All her insecurities, all her flaws were being put under a spotlight, and the examiner, Lena Luthor herself, would claim her as being a defect and toss her aside. The reporter didn’t know why she felt so intimidated, but the fear of suffering through Lena’s disdain made her feel unwell.

Lena Luthor lowered her head and took a deep breath. Then it lifted, her ruby red lips curled up in a smile. For the reporter, it was if the sun had broken through like splintered glass on cloudy days.

“No. The rumors are just that, rumors.” Lena replied with a tight smile.

“So there is no relationship at all?” Another reporter asked, hijacking the spotlight.

“Well, I wouldn’t say that.” Lena laughed. “My relationship with Supergirl is the same as yours. She is a hero of National City and I am its citizen. When situations get too grand and complicated for the police, I do expect Supergirl to come in to save the day as a last resort.”

“Last resort? Could you clarify that?” The initial reporter asked.

“I don’t think we should rely upon Supergirl.” Lena answered. “It is no secret that Supergirl is Superman’s cousin nor to the fact that they both are aliens. Now, you may chalk this caution up to the age long feud between the Luthors and the Kryptonians, but I do not think that we should completely submit ourselves to aliens of any kind.”

“Would you claim yourself as being anti-alien then?” Another reporter asked.

“No, not at all. Rather, I think the existence of aliens can do wonders for the progression of humanity itself. In terms of technological advancement, in the field of medicine or military, humanity as a whole would benefit from whatever knowledge they could provide. However, there is a danger to being too reliant, or too lenient around them. We should not, and cannot forget out roots after all. We are humans, and Earth is our home. Not theirs. They have been granted permission to live here through the generosity of our hearts. It does not mean that they can claim it for themselves and put our home at risk.”

“Are you insinuating Supergirl is a danger to National City?” The reporter asked.

“I think anyone with power attracts danger. I mean, why else do our presidents walk around with a wall of bodyguards circling around them? If they have the potential to do good, then they also have the potential to do harm. The same notion applies to all aliens as well. The ability to do good or harm resides in every sentient being. The difference merely lies in how we choose to react in any given situation.”

“Supergirl!” A reporter exclaimed, switching all the attention from Lena onto the caped crusader. Cameras clicked furiously while some reporters ran closer to her vicinity.

The blonde hero locked her gaze onto the green-eyed CEO. Unbeknownst to all the civilians, they had exchanged a secret conversation.

A conversation that was picked up in Lena’s office.

Supergirl flew into the CEO’s open balcony just as the CEO poured herself a drink.

“Keep that up and I just might have to revoke your all clearance pass.” Lena spoke without looking up.

“Not quite sure I want it anymore.” Supergirl remarked, tapping a fancy metallic paper weight that swung around in its place.

“Then what brings you here?” Lena finally asked, taking a seat on her couch.

“Your comments to the press.” Supergirl answered, crossing her arms.

Lena took a sip of her drink, eyeing the flexing muscles of the humanoid alien standing before her.

“They were true.”

“They were hurtful.” Supergirl argued.

“For you?”

“For all of us!” She shouted, a light shade of redness creeping up her neck.

Lena hung her head, and grit her teeth.

“I apologize for that but I still stand by my words.” Lena defended, looking directly at Supergirl.

“Lena, we’re supposed to be working together. We have to create an environment where aliens and humans co-exist not be divided.”

“Supergirl, no matter how hard you try, there will always be divisions between us. There will always be a reason why you and I are different. Whether those are social factors, our individual worldview or something as basic as our DNA - the fact remains that we cannot be together.”

“What?” Supergirl shook her head incredulously. “What are you talking about Lena? Those differences are the very same reason as to why we should be working together.” Lena finished the rest of her drink in one gulp. “We have to show everyone that if a Luthor and a Super can work together, then anything is possible.”

Lena chuckled. “Show? Is that what you want to do? Put on a show?” Lena swung her legs, and stood up, walking slowly towards the crest-bearing hero. “Fine. I’ll put on a show. But let it be known that those differences, will always be a cause for separation.”

“That’s not true.” Supergirl argued. “I know for a fact that species of all kind - aliens, humans, animals, plants, machines, what-have-you - I know that we can all co-exist. And yeah, we might have our differences, but those differences are what makes us special and unique. It doesn’t have to become a reason for our destruction.”

“Well,” Lena tilted her head, “let’s put that theory to test, shall we?”

“Very well.” Supergirl took a step back and extended her hand. “Here’s to hope and prosperity.”

Lena clasped Supergirl’s hand and shook it. “To truth and unity.”

With the handshake, a secret promise had been made. One that demanded their being together regardless of the outcome of their theories. Whether one won or failed, a Luthor and a Super will always be entwined with each other. Like two sides of the same coin or one being the answer to a mathematical equation. They were now bound together and even if they wanted, an absolute separation will never be possible.
