if a black woman is being vocal about her experiences with and thoughts on combatting racism and your immediate response is to criticize her tone and request that she deliver it in a way that is “less agressive” and makes you more comfortable, then you were never really listening. otherwise you’d understand why we’re so passionate in the first place. periodt.

can people PLEASE stop using the reaction images of Martin Baker bc he’s a p/dophile that used to run a candy shop here in Saint Louis (i believe it is now under new ownership, but his linkdin says he still works there), kids have been attacked in his store, and that image of him on the phone was taken at a republican convention, supporting Darren Wilson, the man who killed Mike Brown, in Ferguson, 30 min from where his store is. he’s ran for a Republican seat in U.S. House of Representatives for Missouri twice (lost both times) but its… i hate seeing him IRL and online so much .

you can’t read a few text posts on tumblr and reblog a couple pictures of black lives matters and think you’re not racist. racism is a deeply engrained part of our culture - sometimes it’s not even conscious. you have to constantly question yourself. it’s pretty hard to unlearn 400+ years of institutional racism and in order for us to properly dismantle systems of injustice, we have to stop pretending we all aren’t part of the problem.
