Hey have you all heard about the scrolls. Have you heard about the scrolls.
Had a dream that I got a text from the "Arcane Sorcerer's Guild" that they failed to properly set off my alarm this morning, and that they would be sending me $20 as a consolation.
I then woke up about 2 hours after my IRL alarm went off.
Decided to draw my dream. I am not very skilled but I did my best.
If you wanted more you could have asked me
Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn't reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.
That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.
palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.
Please, share Hind's story as much as you can on any platform. We need to know what happened to her. Put yourself in her place, how terrified she must be. Don't scroll past this.
This is Hind.
More than 30 hours. Where is Hind? And what happened to the ambulance team who went to rescue her?
soup de jour: soup of the day
soup de jure: soup the government wants you to eat
soup de facto: the soup everyone actually eats
soup de resistance: a very impressive and popular soup emerges...
soup d'etat: ousting the previous soup of the day and installing your own
soup de grace: execution of the deposed soup of the day

The best part of worldbuilding is making something that sucks. Magic schools with bullshit rules that don't work. Spaceships that are built stupid. My favourite thing to do is to make an inconvenient world that is full of stupid things for boring reasons, and then putting a character int here and making them live with that.
I was about to reblog this like "wow I so agree" and then I checked the username and apparently I posted it.
@ashedink You cannot just hide this absolute work of art in the tags

What's left of Gaza's historic market, once endowed with historic buildings and heritage sites, representing the origins of the city and the center of life in Gaza.
Nowhere in the world would this destruction be acceptable as a normal part of warfare. Russia bombed a Ukrainian grocery store (last October in Hroza), and the world was rightfully outraged. But in the case of Gaza, the world's governments choose to lend credibility to the aggressor's justifications every.single.time, parroting Israel's talking points that these locations are used by "militants" as a weapons' depot or military base or tunnel network, even if no evidence is ever provided to support that nonsense.
WHERES THE WELXOME TO THE BLACK PARADE ONE
i saved it to my phone for rainy days this thing ALWAYS makes me feel better

Creature that looks like it was made by a tumblr poll where 40% of people voted “eye” and 5% voted “leg”
It's a mouse-deer, the smallest hoofed mammal in the world. They live in tropical forests in Southeast Asia.
We call them 'Kancil' in Indonesia and Malaysia. They're the main character of many of our traditional fables (typecast as clever/sly lil bastard)
So, so gratifying to know that the ecological niche and the folklore role are shared for both rabbits and mouse deer. Guess you gotta be slick to be a tiny thicket herbivore.
i just wanna say, as a feeding tube haver, that it's so much more possible to get used to invasive medical devices than you might fear.
i grew up horrified by even being reminded organs exist. i was just so severely grossed out by human anatomy. i got a lot better about it through years of chronic illness, since you just have to get used to it. but that's the baseline i started from originally, in case you are also squeamish and wonder if it's possible for that to change.
so when i needed a feeding tube, i was pretty distressed by the idea. having a tube sticking through a new hole in my abdomen was a seriously horrifying concept, and i couldn't imagine coping with having a stoma (the hole) and caring for it etc. i did it because i needed it to survive but thought i might never get used to it.
and yeah, it freaked me out at first. but eventually i did just get used to it. it just feels normal now. i even feel affection towards it, because it is keeping me alive.
this is critically, life or death important, because some people find the idea of medical devices like this so distressing that they believe they would rather die than get one. some people follow through with that. the stigma and ableism around medical devices can very much be fatal.
and it's baked into our institutions. when you are filling out an advanced healthcare directive, which is a document that details your wishes as to what type of care you do or don't want if you are incapacitated and unable to communicate your preferences, it asks if you would want a feeding tube, artificial hydration etc. the implication of this question is that dying instead is a perfectly legitimate and understandable option.
and it's certainly an option people should be allowed, because i believe in body autonomy including life and death decisions. but in our current society, it is a decision people make not freely, but under the duress of ableism in a society that thinks disabled people and people with medical devices are better off dead. it haunts me to think of all the people who could have had perfectly decent lives for however much longer but chose death instead out of fear of these interventions.
Gravestone from a local cemetery. Five children, aged 2 to 15, died from diphtheria in five days.
Diphtheria has a ~10% mortality rate, higher in younger children.
The vaccine against diphtheria is part of the WHO's recommended childhood vaccination program and resulted in a more than 90% decrease in number of cases globally between 1980 and 2000.

Is this about how ppl born in the late 20th century have a unique and fluid experience of navigating barriers to information access and its our responsibility to teach the younger folks how to tinker with technology to avoid being spoonfed everything we experience in order to have critical skills that keep us informed, autonomous, and able to hold power despite looming threats of authoritarianism or..........???
i love love lOVE the additional element of “the only information that’s free is the ‘how we’re going to hell’” BS. Chef’s kiss.
Deeply important. When purity-consciousness overwhelms a movement, it often ends up doing its enemies work for it. Direct link to thread below, above images screenshotted for posterity:
