i see a post talking doom and gloom about how we'll never escape toxic masculinity. i think about back in 2017 when american girl released their first boy doll, and a review for him went viral in the collecting community. the review was written by a mom, who said they went into the store to get their daughter a doll, only to see their son's eyes light up like fire when he saw a doll that looked like him, and now every night he puts his doll in pajamas and rocks him to sleep. i think about the toddler in my daycare room a few years back who was obsessed with baby dolls, carrying them everywhere, and his mom proudly told us he uses his sisters' old baby dolls and wants to be just like them. that toddler saw another toddler crying one day and gave her the doll he had to cheer her up. i think about the eight-year-old boy i saw a few years back, excitedly waving around raya's sword in a target checkout line like all his dreams were coming true. there was a video on my instagram the other day of a little boy at disneyworld crying with joy upon meeting his hero, mulan. i think about the voice actor for bow in the she-ra reboot saying his nephews only wanted adora action figures. celebrity men are wearing dresses on tv now. last halloween i saw a little boy dressed as elsa. i went to go see spiderverse over the summer, and in the line ahead of me was a boy who couldn't be older than twelve or thirteen, bouncing and beaming, giddy with excitement over getting to see the female-led romance movie elemental. i think about the five-year-old boy at my library who breathlessly asked me where the pinkalicious books were, eyes widening when i had more on my cart, his mom explaining that he is all about pinkalicious and fancy nancy. i saw so many pictures online of boys and men dressed in pink to see barbie. teenage boys are gonna open their phones and see the man who wrote fucking game of thrones dressed in pink to see barbie. when i was a kid, a boy dressing in pink was practically a social death sentence. there are boys running around in pink on my street right now.

from my upcoming wip- about a closeted trans boy named Lea, who is forced by his family to become a faith healer. Set in the Northern Philippines on the end of Spanish colonialism and the beginning of the American occupation.
Lea (red skirt) can cry tears that can heal any illness, and he met Pablo (tall guy with glasses) who is an errand boy, who used to work at the fish market selling herbs- and Pablo wondered why Lea was always showing up to his stall looking beat up and buying kilos and kilos of onions.
Lea is autistic and a closeted trans guy, and he is perpetually trapped by his extended family in a "disappointment's room."
Lea's family wants to take advantage of his miracle, and they always make him cry- at first, like most abuse, It starts tame, by making him chop onions all the time and he cries and cries and they collect his tears and sell it in bottles.
Oh, and Pablo has like 100 jobs. He is a cartoonist and an orphan, saving every penny he has to go to uni, so that maybe he can one day illustrate for newspapers.
I always thought of Pablo as kind of like. A punk kid. Well, as punk as a filipino boy from the north during the 1900s can be. Has a lot of scrapes on his knees, dresses in hand-me-downs with his dad's black leather belt. glasses taped together, Plays the bandurria-
meanwhile Lea grew up in a mestizo (filipino-chinese) household. Family used to be very wealthy but has fallen onto hard times. Lea has little dreams and aspirations, but she used to be a painter with a lot of potential- but she is defeated when she cannot be her true self.
Hence, Pablo and Lea are two boys who never got to be boys.

so um….looks like Bradley Cooper (goy) has been cast to play Leonard Bernstein, a Jewish man, in his upcoming film Maestro (a biopic about a real Jewish composer). rather than hiring a Jewish actor to tell a story about a Jewish man, they cast a goy…who will be wearing a prosthetic nose.
and if that weren’t enough - they cast Carrie Mulligan, an Irish woman, to play Leonard’s wife…who was a Latina. and Maya Hawke, a white woman who is neither Latina nor Jewish, has been cast to play their daughter.
AND don’t forget that Bradley Cooper grabbed the rights to Bernstein’s music before Jake Gyllenhaal, A JEWISH MAN WHO WAS GOING TO MAKE A BIOPIC ABOUT BERNSTEIN, was able to. we could have had a respectful biopic about a Jewish man, told by Jews. instead we get this.
i…don’t have words to explain how insidious this is. the absolute goydacity to keep a Jewish man from telling this story, whitewash the other people in a true story, and to cast a goy instead of a Jewish person to tell a true story about a Jewish man, and have that goy wear a prosthetic nose. they would rather Jew-ify a goy than cast an actual Jew. i’m disgusted.

Well my point is that all that "you know what happens to pedophiles/rapists in prison wink wink nudge nudge" shit all comes down to thinking that rape is a punishment that certain people can earn. That there is a crime you can commit that makes you into a bad enough person that you not only deserve to be sexually assaulted, but that your assault is expected and celebrated.
Now let's put aside the bigotry present in the prison industrial complex. Let's put aside how prison is a weapon used against "unwanted" people in society, to take away their voting rights and force them into prison labor, aka slavery. Let's put aside the massive amounts of false accusations and biased judges and an increasing number of laws designed to change the definition of sexual assault to put certain kinds of people behind bars.
Let's put all that aside because, at the end of the day, no one "deserves" to be sexually assaulted. No one "earns" that, no one is "asking for" that. Sexual assault is not an appropriate "punishment" for wearing revealing clothes or getting drunk or marrying the wrong person and it's also not an appropriate "punishment" for beong a bad person. Even the cruelest, most sadistic person does not deserve to be sexually assaulted. It does not matter what crimes they've committed, if they've even sexually assaulted other people before.
Any argument otherwise is rape apologism. Full stop. You either believe that some people deserve to be sexually assaulted or you don't and there's a correct choice here.
