Self Love Suggestions
- Keep a “Self Love” journal. Write down something that makes you happy in it every single day. When you’re feeling down, consult said journal.
- Do something nice for your body once a week. Whether that means a bath with a bath bomb, a self-manicure, a face mask, etc.
- Post supportive sticky notes on the mirrors in your home. Write things like “today is going to be a great day” or “you look gorgeous” on them. If this cheers you up, consider putting sticky notes in other places you frequent (the fridge, bathroom, etc).
- Utilize free suicide prevention resources! We wrote a masterpost with lots of options, also check out Calm Harm.
- Get involved in some local groups/clubs. Learn something new, expand your network, and make new friends! Or volunteer at the ASPCA and pet animals all day.
- Plan a dinner date for yourself once a week. Skip canned or frozen dinners, spend some time cooking. Try new recipes! We have SO MANY listed on our website under #food that are inexpensive.
- Come up with a nighttime or morning routine and stick to it. Routines can be extremely calming and comforting, because we can control them during days when nothing goes as planned. My morning routine involves feeding my cats, watering plants, putting on lotion, and sitting on the toilet for a half hour on Instagram watching people’s stories.
- Spend some money and buy yourself some trinkets that make you happy, leave them around your living space. Nice smelling candles, artwork/posters, cute plants, etc. Beautify your home!
- Look into yoga, meditation, or focused breathing exercises. Doyogawithme is a free website with hundreds of yoga tutorial videos which are amazing. You need to create an account, but the website is free.
- And finally, if you’re feeling down USE YOUR SUPPORT CIRCLE! Contact your friends, family, therapists, etc and let them know how you’re feeling. You’re not being annoying or needy, there’s nothing wrong with getting a pep talk from those who love and understand you.
Stay strong love!
