Imagine how tiny the meows would be if he didn't put his whole body into it. Microscopic meows.
The concept of a “favorite color” is so funny
I was a cheerleader at university, this was in the UK so not serious at all, but we did go and compete at Nationals which were being held in Bournemouth, a fair distance from our uni in London. One of the girls was like "omg you can stay at my house! My parents live like 30 minutes away." so all 25 of us got on the coach with a blanket and pillow and clothes, expecting to like, stay at a house.
Her house in the New Forest. They had a pool and hot tub, a pool house, and I think 4 or 5 bedrooms and 2 reception rooms. I say "I think" because we weren't actually allowed to stay in the house. Our coach and 2 male members stayed in the pool house, which had a very small room, plus a bathroom which all of us were to share. The rest of us had to sleep in a big tent gazebo thing in the garden. In May in England. When none of us were prepared for camping. It was about 10°c in the night, not comfortable at all.
I very briefly saw the inside of the house when I asked her mother if there was another bathroom because we were running late and i needed to put my contact lenses in, and she shooed me into a cupboard under the stairs. The living room I caught a glimpse of had enough space for all of us to sleep there.
The next day when we got back from the competition, we were given a BBQ dinner! Which consisted of 1 chicken leg and 1 potato each.
For the privilege of staying at her house, we all had to give Nadine £5.
Every time I see a post like this, I think of that time, freezing my ass off, in a mansion garden.
if i could turn into an eel. well that'd be ideal.

It’s easy to say “politics don’t belong in genre fiction” when your existence can be viewed as apolitical: when writing a story with someone Exactly Like You is accepted, applauded, and not greeted with cries of “self-insert” or “Mary Sue.”
Every time I write a female protagonist–every. single. time.–I get asked if she’s secretly me, having a fantastic adventure in my stead. I get asked if the text really justifies her skills and abilities.
Because I work in urban fantasy, which is often viewed as “a girl’s genre,” or, more witheringly, “all vampire porn,” I don’t always get asked why I chose a female POV. But I’ve been asked that about my Mira Grant work.
“Isn’t it distracting to make your lead character a woman?” “I mean, there was no seduction and she didn’t use her feminine wiles to escape, so why not write a man?” (real question a reader really asked with the hole in their face that makes sounds)
(My actual favorite was the person who came to a reading to ask me to re-write FEED so George was a man because “it’s unrealistic for…her…to have survived in the open when there are zombies.” Why? Menstruation.)
Other questions I have been asked by people who enjoy my work and are thus at least trying to communicate in good faith: “Why does blank have to be gay?” “Was it really necessary to make her disabled?” “Why is blank Indian?”
“This story isn’t about…that…so why is blank trans?” “Why are there so many deviant relationships?” “You already wrote a female mad scientist, isn’t this basically the same character?” “Mental illness isn’t fun to read about, why write it?”
“You know you’d have more readers if you stopped writing about this homo crap, right?” “When is blank going to be raped?” “Isn’t it unrealistic for a woman to be that good with a gun?”
It is so easy to pretend fiction is apolitical when you live in a bubble of “the default.” When a thousand books about someone just like you come out monthly, and aren’t interrogated for reasons of identity.
(And no, “this book is bad and it bored me” is not the same as “this book had too many lesbians, ugh politics.” The book full of lesbians can also be bad and boring. You don’t gotta like anything. But don’t pretend you’re apolitical.)
Fiction shouldn’t be apolitical. Shakespeare wasn’t being apolitical. Neither was Shelley, or Baum, or Poe, or anyone else. The politics change; sometimes they become hard to see; they still exist.
But as long as my very existence is enough to make a book “political,” cries of “we want less politics in our fiction” will be very transparent in their source, and very disingenuous.
We process the world through our words, and right now, a lot of people seem to think that because they get to exist as “the default,” the rest of us are being intentionally, aggressively political. Sometimes we are. But sometimes…
Sometimes we just want to be seen. Can’t we just be seen? Can’t we have adventures? Can’t we fight zombies and ride hippos and go to space and summon demons and do everything else that we’ve been letting “the default” do all along? Please?

USAmericans: This pride month, talk to the queer people who actually live in all those bad evil icky red states and find out what it's actually like, how we actually feel about it, and who here is actively fighting against it. No more telling us to "just leave" or reducing us to innocent victims who are "trapped" here. There are so many of us and we live here for so many reasons, none of which should be justified. We are resilient, we are powerful, and we are fighting against the fascist laws working to eradicate us or scare us away. Being trans in a red state right now is in and of itself an act of resistance. That being said, pay attention to the brave souls on the front lines, pushing against the laws, making good trouble, and refusing to be silenced.
I won't let myself be talked about like I'm stupid to live here.
I won't let myself be talked about like I'm a helpless victim who's trapped here.
If you can't join the fight by standing beside us, then the least you can do is empower us, amplify our voices, and pay more attention to the ones who are FIGHTING AGAINST THESE LAWS than you are to the chucklefucks trying to pass them.
fellow appalachian, I am holding your hand
i love echolalia so much i truly do but i am so sadly limited by the range of my human voice. i wanna mimic cars and kettles and microwave beeps and chirping birds and computer keys and rushing water. making cat noises isn’t enough i wanna sound like a fucking synth.
me normally: i'm not personally a huge fan of modern art
me around right wingers: I love modern art sooooo much and I think there should be litter boxes in schools also
fucking obliterated lmao
life tip: you can listen to a song on loop
but watch out
its a shame ditherpunk never took off
What’s that?
pixel art but in 1-bit, i.e. only black or white pixels. you create shading via dithering, or densities of black pixels vs white pixels, hence “dither punk.”
It’s lo-fi and retro in a very goth way
Only slightly related - the GIFs above are all visuals from the video game Return of the Obra Dinn. The game is by the same guy as Papers, Please and is about an insurance investigator trying to uncover the mystery behind the Obra Dinn, a ship that left with a full crew and returned devoid of life and in tatters. The player goes backward and forward through time and uses clues in each scene to fill out a list of crewmates and their various means of death. It’s a very fun game, especially with friends!
This feels like the start to a horror movie and I love it
Me rn:
I wonder how many sound designers have died for their art.
bro.
