A Guide to Planning Systems

It’s important to have a system of getting things done, whether it’s tackling tasks as the day progresses or having a carefully planned schedule for every single hour of the week. How can you create an effective personal planning system that suits your needs and preferences?

Mentioned in this post:

N.B. some categories include a few examples but they are no means limited to the ones listed here, e.g. there may be methods of organizing tasks other than the five listed here.

Quarantine Study Tips

If you're like me and you've still got deadlines despite the global pandemic, this list is for you! These are a few of the tips that have helped keep me on track while having no structure whatsoever.

1. Maintain a routine

While it's easy to fall into the habit of sleeping in and getting to your work when you get to it, it helps SO much if you get up at the same time every day, make yourself breakfast, get on some comfortable clothes and get on it. The earlier you get started on your work the easier it is to stick with it!

2. Get out of your pajamas

I'm saying don't stay in the clothes you slept in. I've been living in leggings but I get out of bed and change into leggings (and a cozy sweater/cardigan). Definitely work in what you're comfortable in, but not what you slept in.

3. Have something that makes you look forward to the work.

A tasty breakfast, your favourite tea, a good playlist, making aesthetically pleasing notes whatever you like. It makes you start the day on a good note!

4. Have a study space

Again, doesn't have to be fancy but somewhere that you associate with school work and being productive.

5. Maintain some sort of activity.

Now that we're all self isolating we are losing even the bare minimum of the activity we used to get, walking around campus for example. I spend at least 30 mins a day doing yoga, it's low impact, makes me feel great and there's a million YouTube yoga classes!

6. Take breaks.

While is feels unproductive, most of us having nothing but time to do this work. Take a break! Video chat your friends. Play games with your family. Take your dog for a walk. Have a nap. Make a snack. Breaks are healthy!!

7. Take care of yourself

In what ever way you can. This is a scary situation for everyone and you're allowed to feel however you want about it. If you're struggling, reach out! Most universities have procedures in place including wellness teams and relaxed extension policies. Stay connected with family and friends. The houseparty app is amazing! And please, please wash your hands and don't go out unless absolutely necessary 💕

My inbox is always open! Feel free to drop me a message about anything.

Happy studying everyone 💕

tips to get your life back on track after a breakdown™

  • sleep. your body needs to rest. the average panic attack takes as much energy as running a half-marathon. let yourself rest. take a 20 minute nap. any longer and you’ll hit your REM cycle, and you’ll wake up worse off. after, you’ll feel so much better.
  • clean something. literally anything. a plate, a drawer, the whole mf bathroom. it doesn’t matter how much or how little. it’ll make you feel more in control, and it’ll make your surroundings more appropriate for recovery.
  • get some fresh air. even just opening your window for a few hours will help. if you feel up to it, take a walk. take your dog. pick some flowers. cloudgaze. even just sit in your garden for a bit. your body will thrive off of non-stale air.
  • eat and drink. I know for some people, myself included, this is Hard. it’s alright if all you can manage is a granola bar, or some cereal. anything is progress and will fuel your body. drink water if you can, but anything apart from alcohol will hydrate you.
  • take a shower. I have clinical depression. have done since I was 12. I know how hard it is to take a shower. but it fucking helps. if you don’t do anything else off this list, do this. it’ll help more than you know.
  • talk to someone. I can’t stress this enough. humans are social creatures! we crave interaction. even the most introverted introvert needs to talk to someone. call your mom. text a buddy. skype your brother. chat to your local cashier. anything !! you’ll feel less alone, and hopefully get some good serotontitty flowing.
  • do something fun! same as above, it’ll make u feel so much bette, and provide a distraction. some good options are writing, drawing, watching a movie, dancing - anything you enjoy!
  • be kind to yourself. it’s okay if you relapsed, or if you had a bad day, or anything else. treat yourself gently. you wouldn’t so harsh to a friend in your situation. it’s gonna be okay.

if you can’t do all of these, it’s okay. there are better days ahead. this, too, will pass.

Hey guys, so I’ve seen some posts around about daily routines so I thought I’d share my own. I consider myself to be great at being productive even early in the morning, and here’s how I achieve that. Hope this is helpful, and feel free to ask me questions if you have any!
