i am so tired of ppl not watching the video and rbing with their ignorant opinions going on abt “dress for your body type” and shit like…. that’s not the point. the point is that almost everything deemed trendy and attractive is awarded these qualities BECAUSE they are worn by tall, skinny and usually white bodies.
if y’all had bothered to watch the video, you would’ve seen the comparison between gigi hadid wearing denim shorts and a regular ass shirt and a normal fat woman wearing the exact same fit, and how drastic the reception was for the latter. it’s the exact same outfit, nothing revolutionary or new, i can’t even call it fashion—denim shorts and a t-shirt. yet the fat woman was mocked relentlessly online and said she looked like a racist, while miss hadid was praised for being a trendsetter and a fashion icon.
and not for nothing but y’all have to shut the fuck up abt dressing for body types. it’s bullshit. women should be able to wear whatever the fuck we desire without needing others’ approval for whether or not our bodies are attractive enough for you to let us get out of the house or post pictures online. the most important thing is that YOU like what you’re wearing and YOU feel confident and comfortable in your outfits and your expression of yourself. wear a long skirt “even if” you’re short. wear 6 inch heels “even if” you’re 6 feet tall. wear crop tops and hot shorts and backless dresses “even if” you’re fat. cover up and take off whatever you want as long as you like what you’re wearing.
it would be cool if fat dudes without big beards were considered hot sometimes too.
I realized today that the main reason for the “hot fat dude must also include beard” thing is part of the whole “fat people are required to perform a higher and more perfect expression of gender”.
like usually this sort of thing is more easily identifiable in fat women, who have to be hyper feminine to be considered “attractive” by the mainstream. but I sort of blinked today and realized, oh. fat men must have beards to be attractive for the same reason fat men must wear suits and look dapper to be attractive, just like fat women have to have perfect eyeliner and wear cute pinup clothing. higher, more intense expression of gender, executed perfectly and without flaw is required for fat people to be seen as attractive.
i think it’s important to mention a major thing a beard does, other than potentially act as part of a performance of masculinity, is cover double chins. i legitimately feel leaving that out is a major oversight. double chins are societally reviled and rarely ever depicted in supposedly fat positive art.
i’ve known fat women to literally tape the skin of their neck up under their hair to try to get rid of them– not to mention trying to contour them away with makeup. (i’ve personally done both. let’s talk about the utter misery of trying to exist in public with your skin taped and painted in place, terrified if any of it fails you will be treated as disgusting.) and fat men must grow a beard, and just the right kind of hyper-groomed beard, lest they be labeled disgusting neckbeards. fat people of all genders are compelled to “learn their angles” for photos, so they can create the illusion of not having double chins if only in still images. do you know how many photos with loved ones your fat friends duck out of because they can’t know how it will turn out, and don’t want to be mocked?
accept double chins as normal. accept that you can be attracted to people with double chins. stop requiring heightened gender performance and discomfort from fat people. stop forcing tape and makeup and beards and tactical angles on fat people.

ppl are so annoying “you can’t paint ur bedroom pink you’re an adult” i did not spend my entire life waiting to grow up and control my life to paint my bedroom beige
I had a sales woman in furniture store try and tell me not to buy a hot bubblegum pink loveseat because she wanted me to “think about the future”
Bitch, I am thinking about the future. I already got a hot bubblegum pink couch at home and now I need a loveseat to go with it.
when I first bought my house, I announced my decision to paint my bedroom purple. I had wanted a purple bedroom for thirty damn years, you fucking bet I was gonna have one now. My friends decided, for some reason, that I meant what one of them referred to as “14 year old girl purple” (through what’s wrong with the colors a 14 year old girl chooses, I don’t know, even if they’re not what I want as an adult). They didn’t believe me until they saw the color on the actual wall, even thought they helped me pick out paints. My mother, meanwhile, decided to get worried that if I painted my bedroom a “dark purple”, it would be “depressing”. As if, with an entire house to live in, I would spend all my time in the bedroom, which I wanted to be dark because I would be sleeping in there. In the damn dark.
I had like one, maybe two friends who were all like FUCK YEAH YOU PAINT IT WHATEVER COLOR YOU WANT, PURPLE BEDROOMS ARE AWESOME.
But when they actualy saw the finished bedroom, every single one of them was like, “Oh yeah, that’s really pretty.” (Well, the ones who supported me from the beginning were more like WOOHOO.)
And the moral of the story is: Fuck ‘em, please yourself. Either they’ll come around, or you can safely ignore every question of taste they opine about for the rest of time.
This applies to other adulting activities, too. When I was a kid, I decided that I wanted to have a wedding cake made of doughnuts. When I got older, I figured that I would be “mature” about it and get a traditional cake, which the older adults approved of. Now that I’m 25 and facing the possibility of actual marriage in the near future, I’m just like “marriage is a social construct but it comes with tax & insurance benefits, so just give me that goddamn doughnut cake.” If they don’t like it then they don’t have to come to my wedding.
I would like you all to view my office. I’m thirty and my rainbow room is awesome, people can fight me
I’m thirty and my first big furniture purchase was a custom coffin shaped coffee table that opens up and is lined with purple crushed velvet. I would have loved it at 13 and I love it now. Growing up doesn’t mean you have to abandon what makes you happy.
the infantilization of color and decoration in the home is so bizarre to me- and such a new phenomenon
the world over, our ancestors painted their homes bright or deep or rich colors for centuries. they brought beautiful textiles into their living spaces, and made their utilitarian objects ornamented, or colorful, or shaped like whimsical things. in all cultures, at all class levels and ages, to the best of their ability. and we’re just supposed to throw away centuries of the basic human desire for beauty and visual interest because some asshole decided like 40 years ago that anything beyond a Pop of Color and an IKEA fake plant was “childish?”
fuck that
i would like to add to this wonderful post that this applies to stuffed animals/plushies too!! if you’re an adult/older teen and you still sleep with plushies, good for you!! i have about eight plushies that i sleep with, i’ve been doing it since i was an infant, fuck the press, and enjoy your giant pit of squishmallows.
I would sell my soul to be able to paint any of my rooms. Landlord Beige and Eggshell are the worst colors. To each their own but the fact that some people have the ability to make their house colorful and then don’t for the sake of like modern minimalism is just mindblowing to me
Minimalism is so boring (in my opinion, of course some people may love it). I want my walls and shelves lined with statues and plants and books. I want my house to feel lived in and like a home, not a cold bland cage.
Let people have fun and enjoy their lives! What brings someone happiness should be all that matters!
:)
Heartstopper season 2 spoilers!!
For those of y’all who claim that queer rep isn’t that important, I just wanted to let you know that Isaac realising that he’s aroace made me burst into tears and say ‘it’s me’ because I’ve never seen such a big part of myself represented on a tv show before.
So, yeah, it means a lot.
Same.
I’ve never had a show encapsulate how I feel in such a perfect way. And though Isaac and I had different journeys to discovering this, what he went through feels so familiar and it’s so comforting to see this done well.
:)
wake up besties, new quiz just dropped 😌
results include but are not limited to: love as devotion, love as light, love as being known, love as a choice
ok so people are making fun of this but adding this with other anti-global warming tactics will work
This isn’t adding ice just for the sake of denial, it’s adding to the Earth’s albedo. This in turn actually makes the Earth’s climate cooler, and then more ice will be produced naturally because of this.
It isn’t a process we need to continue forever, in fact it’s one that needs to be calculated so that we don’t do it TOO MUCH. The only worry would be cooling down too much.
So yes, this is a good idea. It simply isn’t the only thing we should do because we still have gross pollution.
For the love of god do it . anything just do it. Give us hope.
Here’s the thing: Most environmental catastrophes humans have ever or are currently creating can be fixed. It’s not just a matter of “oh no, things are ruined, and maybe we can stop the degradation so that things don’t get any worse, but we’re stuck with how things are.” There are some things we can’t do, like bringing back extinct species. But there are a lot of other things we can definitely do, many of which are being done right now. The problem is that most of our willpower and effort is spent on bullshit tiny things that won’t solve the problem (individual recycling, etc.) and not on the large-scale things that can and will make a large-scale difference.
Ice caps are melting? Guess what! We know how to make ice. It’s not that hard. Designing mostly-automated robot ships to go to the poles and rebuild the ice caps is well within our current technical capabilities. We just need to fund it.
Deforestation on a massive scale? Destruction of other biomes? Guess what! We know how to plant trees. We know how to plant grasslands. We know how to take barren, lifeless land and turn it back into a viable biome. It’s not that hard. In a lot of cases, if there’s neighboring areas where that biome still exists, all you have to do is dump a few tons of biomass (plant clippings, food waste, etc.) on the barren land and stand back and wait. The biomass will provide nutrients and keep the topsoil from blowing away, and the plants and animals from the neighboring biome will move in. In two decades, even if you don’t do anything besides dumping the biomass on it, you won’t be able to tell what was the barren area and what was the still-existing biome.
Coral reefs dying? Now, coral reefs are a bit more fragile than most biomes, but guess what! We still know how to replant/rebuild them, and in fact are working on that in places affected by coral reef die-off! And we’re learning how to do it better every day.
Desertification? Guess what! We know how to turn desert back into green space. They’re doing it on a large scale in China and sub-Saharan Africa. There are several different techniques, none of which are even very technology-intensive. It takes money and time and labor, but it’s perfectly doable. We know this because we’ve done it.
Plastic in the ecosystem, particularly in the ocean? Guess what! There’s a lot of people working on this, both on “how to remove plastic from the ocean” and “how to reuse/recycle it more efficiently.” And the techniques are improving by leaps and bounds every year. This is a solvable problem. These are all solvable problems.
So if you’re crushed by the weight of the coming environmental catastrophe … don’t be. These are all solvable problems! We can stop things from getting worse, and we can fix the things we’ve broken. The issue is political, not practical.
On the political side, of course, is the need to tighten up environmental regulations across the globe. (What’s the statistic, that 90% of pollution is caused by 100 corporations?) And then of course, we need to fund these programs on a large enough scale.
In some ways the political aspect is the hardest, but consider this: we are at a tipping point. Things are changing about the way politicians talk about climate change and ecological degradation. More ordinary people are concerned about this, which means more pressure on politicians. One of the ways that things are changing is that people–even conservatives–are starting to talk about “job opportunities in new green fields” and switching the conversation so that it’s not “rainforest vs. jobs” makes political action a lot more possible. And no, it’s not going to happen on its own, but it can happen.
This is a solvable problem.
I *needed* this. Climate change has had me feeling SO helpless, having a list of things that can actually potentially be done is beautiful
Climate change is a technological problem. This statement does not exclude social problems, but the core of the matter is that the fastest most effective way to solving this crisis is through technology.
The corporate bastards WANT you to despair because if we all give up, we stop being a thorn in their side. If people know it’s not hopeless and there’s actually specific things that can be done & will make a huge difference? We’ll keep giving them shit.
Don’t despair. Don’t give up.
(Remember the hole in the ozone layer? And how it’s shrinking now? YEAH!)
This is so good to hear, even as a student who knows a lot of this it’s good to have a reminder.
There’s still hope, and as long as we can make the effort there will still be hope.

"Crowley."
Crowley froze, every atom of his body coming to a complete standstill. Aziraphale had appeared out of nowhere, just like that, and he felt like a fly in a spider's web, like he had just run against a glass door that he could not have seen. Oh, this was cruel. He did not turn around.
"Don't even use doors anymore?" He tried to keep his voice level, cold, unaffected. He failed considerably, but the message got across anyways.
"I'm sorry," Aziraphale said, immediately flinching at the words. The first time they were seeing each other again, after-- after that, and his first words were I'm sorry and he was apologizing for not using a door? Aziraphale felt like swearing, but could not. "I thought you wouldn't open if I-- well. I thought this was easier. Like a bandaid."
"Well, you were right. I wouldn't have." Steel was creeping into Crowley's voice, steel around his heart. With a forcing of limbs, he spun around, his gaze piercing through the armor of his sunglasses. Facing him.
"I need your help" Aziraphale said.
"What," Crowley said. He had possibly never put as much meaning into a single word. The glass door turned into a Great Wall. Aziraphale understood. But he was willing to climb.
The angel (oh, a true angel now, wasn't he--not his angel) fumbled, talking with his hands before his mouth even opened. Talking with his eyes, too, but they got lost in translation. Repelled by a black mirror.
"I know this is untoward. I know it's-- But Crowley, I don't have a lot of time."
"Nothing lasts forever, yeah," Crowley spat, hating himself the second the words left his lips. Unnecessary cruelty. Demonic, huh? Worse yet, Aziraphale accepted the verbal lashing. Don't forgive me, Crowley thought.
Crowley looked at him. He was still wearing his suit, there was tartan in it, but it had become polished, the worn edges returned to pristine, boring perfection. He looked prim. Proper. Perhaps this hurt most of all.
"Why are you here?"
AO3 fic, or some kind of continuation. Please, I’m begging you.
I need to know how this story ends.

(or: Neil Gaiman, Your Brain is Gorgeous But I Have Cracked Your Sneaky Little Code And Have You Dead To Rights*) (*Maybe)
***
Soooooo I just spent the last 48 hours having a BREATHTAKING GALAXY BRAIN EPIPHANY about Good Omens Season 2 and feverishly writing a fuckin16,000 word essay about the incredible magic trick that @neil-gaiman pulled off.
Yes, it’s long, but I PROMISE your brains will explode. Do you want to know how magic works? Do you want to know what Metatron’s deal is (I’m like 99% sure of this and it’s EXTREMELY FUCKING GOOD)? Do you want to know about the Mystery of the Vanishing Eccles Cakes and the big fat beautiful clue I found in the opening credits? Do you go through the whole inventory of Chekov’s Firearm & Heavy Artillery Discount Warehouse?
Here is the essay, go read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/193IXS11XN46lziHRb6eUpM17yK0BQkRqke1Wh64A_e0/ When ur done u can tell me I’m an insane crackpot, and u know what, i won’t even be offended
In case you don’t know whether you want to bother reading the whole enormous thing on google docs, I’ve put the first couple sections of it under the cut. JUST TRUST ME OKAY, HEAR ME OUT, THIS IS VERY EXTREMELY COOL, NEIL IS GOOD AT HIS JOB–
YES!!
:)
On Crowley, memory, and identity.
Ooo this kind of stuff thrills me so much. I have noticed his casual displays of power and his connections to the stars, I’m just excited to see if we’ll get more.
(And I agree, I don’t think we need to learn his angel name)
:)
(it needs to be greenlit by Amazon)
Season 1 | Season 2
This show has broken me for now, hopefully Heartstopper will heal me in a couple days.
I think I’d die if I don’t get an S3 though, so everyone please watch it.
:)
kinda annoys me that criticisms of representation in popular media were intended as a means to point out how people of colour, lgbt people, people with disabilities and other marginilised folks were systemically kept out of creative positions of power in the industry which lead to the creation of media that further marginilised them - but those conversations were mutated and co-opted. now, "representation" is mostly used as a shallow metric by which ppl judge the media itself rather than the system and people that made it. it's insane to me that people say "I won't watch succession because there's no lgbt/poc representation" or they'll say, "you have to watch xyz show because it has xyz representation". Representation and it's mere presence (or supposed absence) is not an indicator of quality in any way. moreover, discussing representation so reductively completely ignores creative intention and disregards real issues of systemic inclusion in favour of using aesthetics as a scapegoat. I need people to stop asking, "is this piece of media diverse?" and start asking, "who is telling this story, why is it being told, and who benefits most from telling it this way?". don't do yourself, art, or the fight the disservice of being reductive.

Oh GOD tumblr what have you done now???
I’m glad I’m a mobile user, but these changes are honestly nonsense.

People with most mainstream tastes imaginable should not open their mouth on how anti piracy they are btw. Yea no shit you can depend on legal sources to watch Marvel and listen to tswift and Maroon 5. Thank you so much for signing the petition to close that platform that was the only one i could download this 2008 romanian dungeon synth ep from
Cheryl Dunye’s directorial debut, The Watermelon Woman, was out of print between 2000 and 2018. Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace was only available to watch on a pirate channel on YouTube until last year. There is still no way to watch the X-Files spinoff, The Lone Gunmen except to own a dvd box set that has been out of print since 2005. Or to pirate it. It’s on YouTube.
Piracy is incredibly important to keep media that’s weird, or out there or just embarrassing to someone in power, alive. We need piracy and we need to stop being snitches when someone pirates stuff.
And with streaming services dumping original shows, there’s absolutely no legal way to consume that media anymore except to buy dvds that are getting harder and harder to come by (think Infinity Train). I understand people’s trepidation surrounding pirating (we’ve been raised to believe it is very very bad) but there’s a lot of cases in which pirating is beneficial to keep media alive.
:)
I see you all being reasonable. I see you all saying Hulu or Netflix or Disney plus or prime. I want to be UNreasonable. I want dropout to buy rise of the pink ladies. I want Sam Reich to print a giant backdrop of the frosty palace and I want the season 2 to be filmed in a warehouse at 2 in the morning. And I hear you saying "but Eli, dropout doesn't do scripted content" Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't think the cast of grotpl doesn't understand their characters enough to do the entire season as a giant "play it by ear" special. Not to mention the amount of merch Sam would squeeze out of that show, we would all be walking around with little plushies of the Rydell mascot in a week
Child Hood Memories
you have to reblog if when you saw this you heard the man say it in your head

@whale---shark I’m proud of you my friend. For the person I’ve had the privilege to watch you become and for the (somehow) even better person I know you’ll be someday.
