this is the post that started me off making my own clothes, i never actually used a pattern from this site bc i learned how to make my own too quickly but this is where the jump from wishing to doing happened

The Revolution™ is fun to imagine and involves no pain. But the real world does involve pain, and it’s necessary to exercise the muscles needed for future work and opportunities.

Not to mention - The Revolution™ is something that, for a lot of disabled folks, is damn near impossible to imagine a scenario where we survive. I have relatives who rely on insulin to live, if the system goes down for more than 3 months without effective distribution lines being reactivated - they're dead. I have a physical disability that makes even walking even short distances impossible sometimes, if there is a major disruption of electricity, fuel, or food, I'm starving. Sure I have food storage, but that only lasts so long (not mentioning my partner who is also disabled and has severe dietary restrictions)

And this is why Community Support is so important. Instead of focusing all of our energy and time on the things and people we hate, it is important to put time into helping people around you survive. Direct Action isn't just protests and picket lines and riots, it's also soup kitchens, community gardens, food pantries, assistance for seniors and disabled folks - shit like this. Offer to help pick up someone's groceries, offer someone a ride to their doctor's appointment, offer to watch someone's kids for them, help where you are able to. Help people they way you advocate for them to be helped.

The Revolution is built on the backs of billions of small acts of support, love, and care. A revolution that ignores the downtrodden, the poor, the disenfranchised, the marginalized - leads to only more ignorance and cruelty. More pain and death and suffering.

Remember the people that our government forgets. Protect the people that our government attacks. That is Resistance. That is a Revolution.

You may have seen Orion's belt before -- but not like this. The three bright stars across this image are, from left to right, Mintaka, Alnilam, and Alnitak: the iconic belt stars of Orion. The rest of the stars in the frame have been digitally removed to highlight the surrounding clouds of glowing gas and dark dust. This deep image, taken last month from the Marathon Skypark and Observatory in Marathon, Texas, USA, spans about 5 degrees, required about 20 hours of exposure, and was processed to reveal the gas and dust that we would really see if we were much closer. The famous Orion Nebula is off to the upper right of this colorful field.

The entire region lies only about 1,500 light-years distant and so is one of the closest and best studied star formation nurseries known.

Actually it’s 73 seconds. Data, knowing something of how human minds work, estimates that Riker will give him 60 seconds to come back (because humans prefer “round numbers”, however arbitrary the units). After 60 seconds it will take 4 seconds for Riker to fully process the conclusion that Data is, in fact, not coming back after all, and an additional 9 seconds to build to the optimum level of anxiety.

honestly what a fucking iconic response. obviously “hello my name is inigo montoya” is the fucking ultimate but we were all building up this confrontation, this fight, this moment right there alongside inigo who had been doing so for 20 (twenty) fucking years ~and in all that time did he ever think the count would just run away? ha lol no~ but then the count just fucking runs away. and yes it’s a moment of perfect comedic delivery/timing, but it’s also a classic moment of subversion in this movie that is so close to being perfect if not for westley’s shitty moustache (kudos to buttercup for still loving him even after she saw that). this film dances so delicately with fulfilling and subverting tropes and it’s moments like this that just exemplifies that

It’s also a super reasonable move. Count Rugen just watched this guy kill like four guys so fast the first hadn’t finished falling down when the last one was stabbed. This dude is no joke, and now he’s like “Oh also this isn’t about the king, I’m specifically here to kill YOU” and here the Count is in just some random hallway and Inigo has a huge guy behind him as backup and… yeah, absolutely not. Fucking run.

And I think that’s a big part of what makes it so funny, it’s not just that he’s subverting your expectations it’s that this is legitimately also the smart thing to do.
