White privilege is very real. If that offends you, then you are apart of the problem. White people, we need to do better. Take a minute to consider a Black person’s experience today.

Finding words to say in such a sad time in this world is so difficult. It doesn’t matter what you say because someone, somewhere is either going to agree or disagree with it. Maybe that’s something we all need to understand. What is right in your mind might be wrong to someone else. Arguing about someone’s personal opinion is only dragging the division in our world out more. My heart is in absolute agony over the death of George Floyd.

My heart hurts for the men and women who face this type of fear every single day because of the color of their skin. This stops with ME. We all have skin and we are all created equally. Please know I stand with you even though I will never understand the fear or anything you have ever gone through. Your feelings on this topic are valid and they are heard. Your life matters just as much as anyone else in this world. #GeorgeFloyd #ItEndsWithMe

Incels and other sexist men can’t see a woman doing something incredible without fuming and trying to discredit her. They’re now dissing on Katie Bouman, who helped write one of the algorithms that got us the black hole picture, saying she was just an assistant (they don’t know what assistant professor is), and using Andrew Chael, her colleague in the Event Horizon Telescope team who helped write one of the codes, as ~the true person behind the codes who is being erased by this anti-men society~ or whatever. They’re even saying crap like “lmao women really don’t do shit”. Andrew took to Twitter himself to call bullshit on that.

If y'all can spread this thread to counter such narrative it’d be great.

Me: *anxious about my second flight to Maryland in the last 3 weeks and the job interviews that follow it*

My Brain: Let me help ya, buddy

My Brain: *proceeds to play the opening drums from Down With the Sickness for the last 12 hours*

Things my coworker has done today to unintentionally upset/annoy me:

1. Asked me if I wanted to call a customer to get an explanation for a check they sent us. Literally everyone here knows I absolutely loathe being on the phone with customers. I do everything I can to avoid being on the phone, even if I’m the only person in the office when a call comes in.

2. Heated up a piece of salmon as a snack and has let it sit on their desk for over an hour. Now their area stinks of salmon.

3. Turned on a small desk fan to cool down or something. Not really an issue except for the fact that the salmon is directly in front of the fan

MARCH FOR SCIENCE LOS ANGELES

We couldn’t make it, but our good friend and science lover, Brooks Elms, was there and grabbed this awesome shot.

More pix from the LA Times here. There are hundreds of protests and marches around the world, with millions of people attending and millions more supporting their voice being heard.

We can’t know if we don’t study. We all must stand up for science funding, science education, and science facts. The current administration is against all of that, so support for them is no different than support for the same mindset and belief system that imprisoned Galileo.

Are you for science?
