why does this whole scene look & sound like a YTP

This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

“Why is he staring at me like that? I don’t like it

Oh hey someone other than me remembers the absolute fever dream that was the 1995 Operavox, aka “let’s rewrite classical operas in English and condense each to less than half an hour in length and make some bizarre animations too because why not”. The Englished lyrics drove me insane, it’s surreal.

The Magic Flute also had this design for Sarastro

who at one point inflates like a balloon while telling Pamina that women should listen to men

Rheingold decided to do the Star Wars opening crawl

and also Wotan and Loge looked like this

and Wotan chops off Alberich’s hand with the ring on it because why not

Turandot had the “painted on a scroll” look. Turandot’s collection of severed heads scared me as a kid though.

Carmen was uncomfortably rotoscoped

The Barber of Seville and Rigoletto were done in stop motion, which is either better or worse depending on how you see puppets

Rigoletto in particular is the most lurid thing ever.

Anyway yeah that opened up something I had repressed for years
