At this point has everyone seen these? Thoughts? Good way to go? DC finally lost their minds? Not sure what to make of it?
Absolutely stunning cloak and dagger art from Alex Ross
Superman vs batman
So at this point I've spent a very sizeable chunk of my day watching Dan Slott(writer for spider-man) go at it with people on twitter about why he doesn't like man of steel and is not looking forward to bats vs supes and I've gotta say I'm totally on his side in this and here's why: first of all, this is NOT a DC/marvel competition thing. There is no competition. In the end we all win so who cares? But anyways, the biggest problem with man of steel that I have is the fact that no matter what happens, superman does not kill. There are no exceptions just bad writing. On top of the fact that a very good portion of metropolis is destroyed, it's basically just a disaster movie starring superman. Whereas bats vs supes isn't out yet it's hard to have a fully formed opinion until I see it but what I've seen so far is not promising. The trailer's dialogue between Clark and Bruce is fantastic and that would be awesome if not for the new Lex Luthor being so uncomfortable I have a hard time watching him. Aside from that, bringing in doomsday doesn't make much sense when superman has been around for roughly a year and all of a sudden the one guy who can kill him is on the scene. Props for bringing in wonder woman but she is of little comfort standing next to a superman that kills and a batman that uses guns.
some pencils and roughs by Steve McNiven.
Some comic thoughts
Just got done reading Warren Ellis' newsletter this week and it makes me wish I could do something similar and reach a wide enough audience but either way it compelled me to type something up of my own. I've been doing a tremendous amount of backlogging lately with some books that are new to me but I've had for a while. Mostly image books in the past week but I finally read the incredible bitch planet by Kelly sue deconnick first and I enjoyed it a great deal with her relatable characters and impressive storytelling. I also read chrononauts by Mark Millar and I have to say it was some of the most fun I've had reading a miniseries in a long time and Sean Murphy's art only fuels the playfulness of the two excellent leads. Finally, I read what I now consider to be one of the best written comics I've ever read, is deadly class by Rick remender. This book was absolutely astonishing the way his characters feel like real people that you can connect and sympathize with and his dialogue is nothing but superb through and through. We are blessed to live in an age where creator-owned material can thrive as it does standing next to marvel and DC. Next I'll move onto low by Rick remender and then onto the private eye by Brian k Vaughan. Until next time. -SP-
Spidey vs. the Green Goblin by Steve McNiven
my pencils for the unmasking of Spider-man in Marvel Civil war. This was another one of those times where you draw and redraw in a state of sweaty frantic second guessing. Not that it wasn’t fun, because it was an incredible ride, but when you’re at the wheel you don’t want to wreck the car.
For my first post, the cover to daredevil 6 by the incredible bill sienkiewicz. Stunning work
