KOSA UPDATE

It passed the Commerce Committee markup with a unaminous vote. But this shit is far from over.

Keep calling your senators and representatives, email them, and POST about the KOSA bill and its dangers everyday until this tomfuckery is shutdown!

KOSA is dangerous as it now threatens end to end encryption, which means EVERYTHING we have internet is in threat of being compromised. We NEED to do something about it and even if you have anxiety, you can do something about. I did, and I felt like I was going to die as I was doing it, but I did it!

If you're not comfortable with calling, email them, sign petitions, post about it on social media. Blow KOSA up, it worked last time and that's why it didn't pass. So let's do it again!

We need action, our privacy and our safety is at stake! This goes beyond violating our 1st and 4th amendments!

STOP KOSA

STOP EARN IT ACT

STOP RESTRICT ACT

STOP CSAM

STOP COOPER DAVIS

These bills are a threat to kids AND adults and they need to be stopped! Keep calling, keep emailing, keep being a pain in their ass!

Edit: If this passes, it won't just affect Americans, this will impact everything and everyone worldwide. So even if you aren't American you can help us fight! You can call, email, and sign petitions!

Edit 2: No further moves are going to be made on KOSA until after August as Congress is on recess, but it WILL come back in September. So we need to keep pushing, we need to be loud! Keep calling and email your representatives and senators!

“KOSA wont pass, it got rejected the last two times!”

It wasn’t passed because people spoke out against it. People called and emailed their senators. So, CALL / EMAIL YOUR SENATORS. MAKE IT KNOWN THAT WE DO NOT WANT THIS BILL TO PASS!

“But its unconstitutional-“ There’ve been multiple bills passed before that are unconstitutional. This will not be any different to them, they do not care.

STOP KOSA!!!

PSA: *Beware* AI-generated fungi guudebooks!!

…Not a phrase I imagined myself typing today. But, via @heyMAKWA on Twitter:

“i'm not going to link any of them here, for a variety of reasons, but please be aware of what is probably the deadliest AI scam i've ever heard of:

“plant and fungi foraging guide books. the authors are invented, their credentials are invented, and their species IDs will kill you”

…So please be careful if you run across anything of this kind.

NOOOOO

sorry had to revise this from secret agent to assassin; I want no connotations of suaveness. i want a functioning alcoholic who hasn't shaved in days bleeding ("am I bleeding? jesus fu—") from a torso wound, passing out, gun in hand, and waking up to Guy At The Computer making a functioning nuclear reactor in Minecraft. He looks up groaning and is just like "bad news: i'm still alive worse news: i'm deeply attracted to this....person" nerd swivels around in an ergonomic chair "oh you're awake!" takes off his headset and he's wearing a loss t-shirt

"olivia didn't invent the collider she actually stole the spot's work and took the credit" how could you say that. that wasn't necessary, spider-verse 2. this is why women get pushed out of stem

fuck this

This is bizarre. It literally would have been better characterization for Spot if he insisted that the project was all him all the time, despite Olivia very clearly being his boss. That plays better into his inferiority complex and wanting to be seen as more important than he is.

yeah i wonder why the director felt that it made so much sense for the woman in stem who is a female version of an established character who is canonically a super genius to be plagiarizing and coasting off her male subordinates that's weird

I also need to add the reply that @snaret made into the actual post instead of the replies cause THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Any self respecting version of Doc Ock would rather be dead than plagiarize any sort of work.

Hello all. If we want tumblr to listen to us then we need to express it in a way that tumblrs 'potential' users (that they care so much about) will see, and will likely prevent from using tumblr until staff fuckin listens.

How?

Tumblr posts are limited to tumblr, any new users won't see as they'll mainly follow themed blogs, so staff doesn't care because it won't affect their goals in any meaningful way. Investors also aren't looking at tumblr posts to decide if they'll invest so tumblr isnt negatively monetarily affected by complaint posts.

Talking about tumblrs downfalls on other sites may help, but unless its a large movement at one time, staff and the general public wont see/care about any complaints.

One thing that new users will definitely see if theyre on mobile however, and investors can check easily, is the rating and review of tumblr on the App Store. This means that the rating/reviews is something that can directly impact whether new users decide to use tumblr or investors decide to invest. So is something that staff should directly care about.

So what do we do?

We rate the app badly.

But not just rating it badly, give a review and explain what problems you find with tumblr.

Some examples:

-bad moderation (incorrect flagging of posts, inappropriate posts not being flagged hategroups not being banned etc.)

-inaccessible (seizure inducing ads and posts, video player etc.)

-bad search function

-tumblr live and all the issues that have been brought up with it

-transphobia (queerest place on the internet my ass)

-anything thats a problem but i haven't mentioned

Why though?

Tumblr staff have recently started trying to monetize the site mote effectively while ignoring the requests/queries from current users in an effort to attract new users.

Since tumblr has many issues that negatively effect any users for the site but ignore any posts about them while encouraging posts celebrating them (think crab day), the only way to really get through to them is by means that will actually affect them.

Tumblr Proving Once Again That They Don't Care About the Userbase

There was an interesting post from Labs a while back that no one seemed to take much notice of but in it they stated:

"Back in June, we announced our comeback as a new team that would imagine big ideas for Tumblr—and would build them in public (aka with you)." "An essential part of how we're working in Labs is speaking to people who use Tumblr (and those who don't use it, but could love it) pretty much on a daily basis. So we showed them this idea, and their response was indifferent at best, and confused at worst."

They mentioned Tumblr Mini, aka making your post look like Twitter posts, which they literally said here:

"It didn’t feel like Tumblr anymore. But we didn’t want to make a decision based solely on our own gut feelings… we needed to ask the Tumblr community."

So everything here about talking to users about what they want is a fucking lie because if that was the case they'd know that no one wanted the new dashboard. They want it to feel unique yet made the dash a blatant rip-off of a dying site like Twitter, which it's users are fleeing because it sucks. Do they honestly think that the best thing to do is to make Tumblr look EXACTLY like the site they're trying to get away from?

They blatantly admitted in their own post that they wanted it to be "twitter-like", let me spell it out for you @staff, @changes, @labs, WE DON'T WANT TWITTER. That's why were here in the first place.

@staff @changes wow, you somehow made the worst possible choice for the desktop layout and pissed off everyone, roll it back, no one wants this platform to be twitter 2.0

Edit:

Remeber to go to the help center and open a support request, select 'feedback' from the dropdown menu and tell them exactly how you feel about this "update"

A new way to navigate Tumblr

If you use Tumblr on a web browser, you might have noticed us testing a brand new navigation on your dashboard in the last month. Now, after some extensive tweaks, we’ve begun rolling out this new dashboard navigation to everyone using a web browser. Welcome to the new world. It’s very like the old world, just in a different layout.

Why are we doing this? We want it to be as easy as possible for everyone to understand and explore what’s happening on Tumblr—newbies and seasoned travelers alike.

Labels over icons: When adding something new to Tumblr in the past, we’d simply add a new icon to our navigation with little further explanation. Turns out no one likes to press a button when they don’t know what it does. So now, where there’s space, the navigation includes text labels. Since adding these, we’ve noticed more of you venturing to previously unexplored corners of Tumblr. Intrepid!

What’s already been fixed? Thanks to feedback from folks during the testing phase, we’ve been able to make some improvements right out of the gate. Those include returning settings subpages (Account, Dashboard, etc.) to the right of the settings page instead of having them in an expandable item in the navigation on the left; fixing some issues with messaging windows on smaller screens; and streamlining the Account section to make it easier to get to your blogs.

What’s next? We’re looking into making a collapsible version of this navigation and improving the use of screen space for those of you with enormous screens. We’re also working on improving access to your account and sideblogs.

That’s all for now, folks. For questions and suggestions, contact Support using the “Feedback” category. Please select the “Report a bug or crash” category on the support form for technical issues. And keep an eye out for more updates here on @changes.

the main problem i have with america is that nothings old as hell there. i cant be so far away from a castle it damages my aura

man people really just say stuff on here huh

Noooo haha don't spread racist ideals and colonizer propaganda by idolizing white european aesthetics above all else and denying the life and accomplishments of native peoples on their own lands

People have been living in the downtown area of Tucson, Arizona for at least 4,500 years. The greater Santa Cruz river valley has been occupied by humans for 12,000 years.

You see this?

That's not a river. That's the South Canal in Mesa, Arizona (Phoenix metro area).

This is a view of the East and South canals. At least half of all the Phoenix metro canals were originally built by the Hohokam (from roughly 200-1400 CE), and are still in use (restored) today.

Phoenix, Arizona actually has more miles (kilometers) of Canals total than both Venice and Amsterdam. No, really. Phoenix has about 180 miles of canals, many of which are built on ancient canal foundations.

below is an aerial view photo taken in the late 1930's of one branch of Phoenix's canal systems:

Also have the "Montezuma Castle," if you need a castle:

I don't need to look at some 12th century European castle to see age.
