so! it's no secret that larkin is super buggy. that's. 100% my bad folks. like. to an embarrassing degree (that i lie awake at night agonizing over) that's mostly because a little while ago during one of my more manic installments of ''''''i'm developing a videogame'''''''' i ditched my beta-testers in an effort to produce my game faster. which. LITERALLY TERRIBLE DECISION!!! so that being said, as I mentioned earlier today, I'm sort of in a New Phase of working on the game, considering that Larkin is nearing the end of it's intial demo and moving into the Alpha Development Period. and in that brief little period of not having betas I learned a lot of things. king of which--larkin is a huge undertaking and no matter how many times I play the game on my own. I am going to MISS THINGS and when it goes out to the public I WILL BE EMBARRASSED.
manic rant aside, I'm in the process of looking for betas again. if you're interested, please fill out this little form below, but keep in mind, I'm kind of asking for a lot--in a short time frame.
my first task for you all will to thoroughly play through the game with as many variants as possible. I'm in the process of overhauling the whole thing/making edits with the alpha--so anything you can would be GREATLY appreciated.
so, if you're interested please fill out the form linked below, but keep in mind these few things:
Navigating the US mental health system as POC requires so much endurance and self advocacy. (And in my experience self advocacy comes with a risk of being seen as difficult.) So many POC are forced to perform our pain in order to obtain help and those of us who can’t are denied it.
To those fighting this same fight, my heart is with you.
The thing about knitting is it’s much harder to fear the existential futility of all your actions while you’re doing it.
Like ok, sure, sometimes it’s hard to believe you’ve made any positive impact on the world. But it’s pretty easy to believe you’ve made a sock. Look at it. There it is. Put it on, now your foot’s warm.
Checkmate, nihilism.
This is a powerful positive message..
I’m literally reading a book right now (Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski) that says this is scientifically sound.
There have been studies done on rats and dogs where they develop learned helplessness in the animals by giving them impossible tasks. Eventually the animals stop trying, even when the task stops being impossible. (I.e. put a rat in a maze with cheese it can’t get to until it develops learned helplessness, then put the cheese somewhere it can get to it and it won’t even try.) But once they show the animals they CAN do something - i.e. physically moving the rat to the cheese - the learned helplessness goes away.
No one can move you to your cheese for you, but the book says DOING something - which they define as “anything that isn’t nothing” can help. Make a food. Work in the garden. Clean a thing. Do a favor for a friend. Call your elected officials.
Knit a sock.
If you feel overwhelmed by existential despair, do something. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be anything that isn’t nothing.
This is really good advice for ADHD people because when executive dysfunction gets bad it’s easy to fall into this pattern of thinking. Do just one thing. It doesn’t have to be your homework, or a chore. It can be something small, it can be something you enjoy. But do just one thing to remind yourself that you can.
This is what “humans want to be productive” really means
We want to make things. We want to do something and at the end of the process see that something has changed. We want physical proof that we did something. We want to be able to point at something and say “I made this”. We want to be creators
reddit is dying twitter is dying tumblr is next as people move over here in response and the corporate side of the company starts drooling at the prospect of EVEN MORE MONEY so they make staff change the website to be shittier and more like the dying websites. whats next? fireside gathering at my house where we pass the posting stick around that indicates youre allowed to make a post with words that come out of your mouth
Neurodivergent people love pacific rim bc its basic theses are “two besties who share a braincell can pilot a mecha” and “what if crab was big”

Dragon Hoard, paperback cover by Stephen Hickman, 1985
Hugo Simberg, The Garden of Death, 1896.
Every time I see this I always wonder what the painter’s intended message was. It looks so pleasant, that middle skeleton looks so happy with its work.
Maybe it’s supposed to be a memento mori, but a comforting and encouraging one.
This is one of the most famous paintings in Finland. There are multiple interpretations of it but they all share the same base idea:
“According to Simberg, the flowers represent people’s souls, the skeletons are aids to Death, and the Garden of Death is a purgatory of sorts for souls waiting for entrance into heaven. This artwork invites the viewer to consider the afterlife, to take comfort in his or her own passing, and to not fear what happens after the body fails to function.”
“It depicts Simberg’s thoughts on afterlife, which is not run by angels but skeletons who take care of the heavenly garden with a gentle hand, while waiting for more “gardeners” to arrive. It is derived from the medieval belief that the dead sleep in a blooming garden.”
“In Simberg’s garden the humble Death-like figures struggle against harsh conditions; the landscape around the garden has burnt yellow, it is dry and barren. The cherished flowers grow in exotic shapes, slowly, requiring constant care. The black-clad figures love their nurslings. The garden is a place where Death is allowed to realize its feelings of affection. The Garden of Death can be seen depicting the impossibility of this love; maybe the flowers are tender and fragile because they can not handle the love of Death. Love has two faces: one of them is the face of devastation.”
New content for the MCs that are on August's romantic route.
In the next days I'll update the rest of the routes as well.
Guess what this is and what's happening. You're going to hate the answer I'll bet!
“ This biophysical mechanism is proposed by us to assist these ectoparasites in making contact with their hosts, increasing their effective “reach” because they are otherwise incapable of jumping. Herein, experimental and theoretical evidence show that the tick Ixodes ricinus (Figure 1A) can close the gap to their hosts using ecologically relevant electric fields. We also find that this electrostatic interaction is not significantly influenced by the polarity of the electric field, revealing that the mechanism of attraction relies upon induction of an electrical polarization within the tick, as opposed to a static charge on its surface.“
