Tete Gulley was a 31-year-old Black trans woman in Portland who was found hanging from a tree, dead. The police department ruled her death a suicide, and did not investigate further. Her family found out she had died through Facebook. Officials won’t look into the case further because there is “insufficient public interest”, despite numerous people of the homeless community witnesses contradicting that ruling. Someone even allegedly has a video. But due to negligent policing and, apparently, lack of public interest, the family hasn’t seen justice, let alone the autopsy.

We’re the public. Let’s show our interest.

Here is the petition demanding investigation into Tete, as well as accountability for the negligent behavior of the authorities. It also goes into further detail about her story.

reminders for/about bi people this pride season:

  • bisexual is not a dirty word, it’s beautiful
  • bi women are not watered down lesbians
  • bi men are not watered down gay men
  • bisexuality is a solid and complete identity
  • bisexuality has never excluded trans/nb people
  • bi people are not second rate members of the lgbt+ community

psa to all cishets: when a queer person isnt out to you, but you keep noticing them doing and saying Queer Things, they probably arent just “thinking they’re being subtle.” like, they’re probably deliberately testing the waters to see how you react, and then if they start backpedaling and trying to explain it away, you uh. reacted badly.

like before you pat yourself on the back for being so perceptive, maybe ask yourself why the person feels uncomfortable talking about it with you and try to correct that instead of just cornering them and trying to force them to come out.

i guess what i’m saying is, respond in kind? if someone is dropping very small hints, like talking about how cute other girls hairstyles are or something, respond with an affirmation, that yes, they are very attractive. if they “jokingly” refer to themselves with gendered words that don’t match their assigned gender, maybe yes-and the joke and repeat it back to them or something. or even just casually laugh along.

dont respond to “that girl has cute hair” with “what the fuck are you gay” or even the nicer but equally daunting “you can tell me anything and i’ll always love you.” follow their lead.

it’s a whole-ass conversation, and you need to communicate to them that you’re supportive WITHOUT dragging them somewhere they might not be ready to go, AND without trying to swoop in to be the benevolent savior of the conversation

do not ignore this

our momentum is slowing down. we can’t let our dashes go back to normal when the world is not normal. so, if you are reading this, you are ~legally~ obligated to choose 2 numbers below; you must complete the task of those two numbers today. don’t pretend you didn’t see this. either do them right now or set a reminder to get it done before the sun goes down. the timer starts now. choose two.

  1. sign some petitions. LINK HERE. if change.org hasn’t accused you of being a bot yet, you haven’t signed enough.
  2. watch these youtube videos. LINK HERE. do not skip the ads. this is a way to help raise money without having to donate any.
  3. sign up to get daily actions. LINK HERE. after filling out the form, you will receive texts Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays telling you what action to take.
  4. text or call for any of these victims. LINK HERE. this website is extremely helpful, well organized, and practically does all of the work for you.
  5. donate some money. LINK HERE. if you have any more money to spare, please donate it to one of these funds.
  6. follow every single one of these organizations on social media: blcklivesmatter, colorofchange, reclaimtheblock, showingupforracialjustice, and civilrightsorg
  7. post these important sources to your social media. LINK HERE. you have no idea who it might help.
  8. read this article and forward it to at least one person. LINK HERE
  9. watch this video explaining the racial wealth gap. LINK HERE. it’s really informative and only about 15 minutes long.
  10. do some reading. LINK HERE. this link has a ton of great resources to educate yourself. read at least one.

When are we going to stop pretending girls don’t have hair on their boobs, between their boobs, around their nips, on their ass, on their upper lip, between their brows, on their cheeks, etc?

On their belly, on their toes, on their back, literally everywhere men grow hair

humans grow hair everywhere except on the palms of their hands and soles of their feet. this hair can rank from light blond and soft to dark and wiry, regardless of sex or gender of the person. shaving all of it is a mess and plucking it hurts like hell. humans are just animals with less thick fur. you wouldn’t shame a female animal for having as much fur as a male one, so stop doing that with humans.

reminder to my fellow trans girls freaking out about having hair there

This fantasy that women are hairless except their eyebrows and long head hair is so bizarre. Yes, gents, it’s there.

Also, just FWI because this also annoys me: not all natural blondes have carpet that matches the drapes. That’s not a thing you can use as some kind of honestly test. You know, like how blond men often have darker beards? It’s like that.

Women have hair. It’s everywhere. It’s as weird and varied as men’s hair.

as the dash moves back to normal, please don’t let this be the end of your activism. this wasn’t just a trend, these are real lives. continue to further your understanding, get educated, listen to black people, and be an active ally.

hmmm. customer was asking me if id been to any protests lately. gave the general “how could i when im always at work” response. he keeps going asking about where protests are being held/how he’s having trouble locating them and “it’s been hundreds of years coming so im not suprised”. he buys a lotto ticket and opens his wallet, which surprise surprise also contained a police badge..

Seriously. Be suspicious of everyone you talk to. especially if you don’t know them. even if you used to talk to them but fell off for a few years. don’t give out any information that could put others at risk
