One of the first things we learn about Xie Lian as a character is that he wants to save the common people. Thus, the first time he ascends, it is as a martial god. This is a rather naive idea of how one might protect others, by using brute strength, and when it eventually fails, he becomes disillusioned with it.

During the situation with Mount Yujun, we learn that one of the only ways for a human to catch the attention of a martial god is to have a lot of money, so this is not the way to achieve Xie Lian's goal.

Then, the third time he ascends, it's as a god of scraps. The kind of people who collect scraps tend to be homeless or very very poor.

So by being a god of scraps, does that not make Xie Lian a protector of the hungry and the vulnerable? Is this not how Xie Lian can save the common people? Not by fighting or brute strength, but by reaching out a hand?

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation

because WHAT are people talking about sometimes

"why can't they just be friends" not in the homophobic way but in the "their platonic relationship in the source material is far more dynamic and complex than the sanitized personalities they gain as a result of shipping" way

"why can't they just be friends" not in the homophobic way but in the "this is a valuable exploration of intimacy and vulnerability that we’re conditioned to recognize only in romantic relationships but that can exist platonically as well" way

I thought s1 of the donghua ended around the first volume ;; they should let you watch it!! also im the one who was motivated to finish and i did finish! yay! still need the extras but thats close enough

Yay! I'm glad you finished it!

From what my friends say, the donghua covers the first 2 volumes, but in my friend ing's words, "there's a plot beat that's made exceedingly obvious in the first season but once you kinda connect the dots on that thing we can watch the show together!"
