I will not shut up. I have let bigots like you silence people like me long enough. It's because of people like you who think they have the right to decide for everyone that my people, the lovely, suppressed and silenced women of my country, have had to suffer so much.
I'm an Iranian. I've lived all my life in iran. The Muslim identity was forced on me since birth and I have seen so much horror. I have seen so much ugliness in islam. I have seen the true face of Islam, not the hand-picked, rose-colored version some people get to choose while living in a free country. I have seen what happens when people in power use religion as a weapon to oppress, demonize and torture innocent people. I have seen people executed and assassinated for criticizing islam. I have seen people denied education and barred from society for refusing to convert to islam. I have seen people executed for denouncing islam. I have seen women prohibited from singing, dancing, playing music, swimming, riding a bike, driving cars, wearing the clothes they want to, being able to leave the country without the approval of their father/husband, being able to get a divorce or take custody of their children, because of Islam. I have seen men beheading their daughters and wives and mutilating their bodies bc of islam. I have seen little girls married off to old men bc of islam. I have seen so much horror you can never begin to imagine. Islam has left such deep scars on me that i will never heal.
I have a right to talk about my experience and the experience of so many others like me.
I think it's high time for you and people like you to shut up.
