Swedish Chef was on Masterchef Junior this week and he has human hands and it makes me really uncomfortable.
when the texture packs don’t all load together
The Swedish Chef has human hands in every video he’s in?
That’s part of the joke.
He had human hands on The Muppet Show.
I was a Bear in the Big Blue house kid. I never watched the Muppets. A puppet with people hands is freaky to me. I just want my bear and his big blue house.
can confirm, the Swedish Chef (almost) always has human hands. don’t know why. he’s an anomaly that way.
fun additional bit of trivia: most Live-hand Muppets (that is, ones that have articulated glove hands instead of the hands being moved by rods) are performed with the primary puppeteer doing the head and the left hand while a secondary puppeteer, usually a less experienced one, performs the right hand, a task typically known as ‘right-handing’. (the puppeteers use their dominant hands for the head, so for most of them their remaining hand will be the left. I don’t know if they reverse the process and have people left-handing for left-handed puppeteers.) looks like this:
the Swedish Chef is one of the exceptions to that rule, though, because his skits required a lot more complicated hand movement that needed better coordination, so with him one person would work the head and one would do both hands; they also did that for things a character playing the piano. that added complexity might be why he doesn’t have glove hands, plus the fact that he already looks a lot more human than most Muppets anyway. but I don’t really know.
…that was…probably more information than you wanted. sorry.
I JUST LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT PUPPETS. Thank you.
the thing about tpotd is that, frankly, the idea of a 13/dhawan!master body swap was quite literally my golden goose of media. You have No idea what I'd do for a two parter in that show where this happened. It is literally at No.1 in my fictional plot pipe dream folder.
But... If we'd gotten that in tpotd then the entire era's thesis statement would not have been wrapped up. The whole point was the doctor's out of commission, Yaz has to do it because the doctor Isn't out of commission, the Doctor is Yaz because The Doctor is an ideal, not a person, you can do it if you try.
If they'd swapped, the doctor would have very literally been there and Yaz's arc is trashed because Yaz needed the metaphorical doctor training wheels removed and to manage to do it solo, not without help, because the point is also that the doctor has loved ones helping, but solo as in without the doctor there.
And so it Pains me deeply to say, but i am So gad they didn't do a body swap (literally, I hate writing this). Yaz's arc is more important. Yaz's arc solidifies 13's arc. It solidifies the story of the doctor in general even aside from one regeneration. It solidifies the master's arc. Yaz is the keystone here, to both the overarching themes of the story plots And of the character plots.
So am I sad i got so close yet So far from my ultimate wish? Yeah, but... They shouldn't have done it. If they wanted that it needed being done in another episode (I am choosing to blame the reduced ep count because of the plague, just because I can).
Jodie whittaker as the master and sacha dhawan as the doctor would have slapped so hard but what Actually mattered to wrap up 3 seasons of TV with an important message was Mandip Gill as the Doctor, and Sacha Dhawan Still as the Master even while he was walking around in what was technically the doctor's body.
Yaz my love you are treated so badly by fandom but I love you and I see your beautiful arc and I'm so glad that it wrapped up properly even while i lost out on my golden goose.
she keeps looking over at me because I'm standing here blowing loud raspberries at her
thanks for your concern, it's appreciated! in this case the disheveled appearance is because she's in the process of shedding her winter coat, and the lack of fear is because she's an asshole
I'm always thinking about the way gender roles and sexual roles and physical traits are entwined in Society to the point where they're seen as synonymous & I'm pulling them apart like twizzlers
(Pulling apart the sections and eating them) submission isn't intrinsically feminine and size is unrelated to gender presentation and body hair isn't intrinsically masculine and penetration isn't equivocal to dominance which isn't equivocal to masculinity and it keeps going around and around like that
thank you to the dishonest failing new york times for constantly erasing us and purposefully obscuring jewish participation in these protests just to make people less sympathetic to the movement opposing an ongoing genocide

i think "it takes a village" shouldn't be just "to raise a child". we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can't. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they're happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.
did I ever tell yall I used to think charlie chaplin was a drag king. for like three years straight
we watched modern times in seventh grade n I saw this shot n just took it face value that he was a twinky butch. for three years
I only found out he wasn’t because in tenth grade the topic of old hollywood leading ladies came up w my friends n I went “I think it’s so cool how charlie chaplin did all those drag roles. she was cute too haha” n they all looked at me like I’d said something just truly fucking insane. which for the record I had
no the butch you want is Dorothy Arzner, one of the only women directors from the silent era to continue directing after the transition to sound
she directed a multitude of films about atypical domestic relationships and has two entries in the criterion collection. you should absolutely read about her life, because wow. fascinating figure
SWOON!!!

Sometimes I wish I was Out at my main job but you know part of me really, really enjoys just being seen as "the young straight cis employee who's knowledgeable about queer topics" because I find myself often approached by older folks who admit things like "I know transsexuals are more popular these days but injecting things into children doesn't seem right" and I can tell them "Actually your niece/nephew/nibling isn't getting surgery and junk right now, they're twelve, what they're getting are 'blockers' which delay puberty- and since puberty itself is an involuntary change to the body caused by hormones, isn't it nice that they're getting a bit of time to decide that they're sure about what they want before they start? And also we've been using and observing HRT for longer than Advil, ibuprofen, digital cameras, and laser eye surgery, so IDK, it's good that you're asking questions though, I'm glad you're looking out for them but it's not really all that scary" and I like knowing that I can help steer them in the right direction (seeking out scientifically proven facts and stats, asking questions) instead of encouraging the path they're already on (leaning into instinctive feelings about the unfamiliar and strange)

"divine feminine" "divine masculine"
wrong. Divine.
I love when dogs and cats just let you pat the shit out of them and they enjoy it so much. Like yeah dude real quick I just need to play you like a bongo and they’re like god yes I’ve been waiting for someone to play me like a bongo

I’m kind of obsessed with this painting and others by the same artist of Black girls. it is one of the few representations of Black women in “traditional art,” for lack of a better term that shows the subject as soft, delicate and vulnerable, which are qualities ascribed to us so rarely it’s notable when it happens. It’s painted by a Ukrainian woman. I don’t have time to unpick all the complexities there, but there’s enough fraughtness between Black women and Eastern Europeans that the source of this painting is equally as surprising to me as the tenderness of subject.
this is killing me. the textile details. the light. the harmony. it’s drowning me, i’m dying. i love it so very much.
