He began his descent into the valley, heading towards the hill. If she was anywhere in Lothlórien, she would be here, in its heart, and he would find her. He had made a vow. And if there was anything his family was good for, it was keeping their vows.
Or, Maglor meets Arwen, almost falls to his death, gardens, learns how to get help and offer it, and starts healing.

Maglor didn't ever intend to sail. Valinor is not his home and never will be.
Ages have passed since he threw the Silmaril into the sea, but when his mother appears to him in a dream, when he wakes in the middle of the night with the fire of longing burning in his lungs, when the pain gets so bad he can take it no longer, he steals a boat to meet the ocean. He sets out intending to die, or so he thinks.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Sometimes going home is more difficult than leaving ever was. Sometimes acceptance is complicated, but it is the beginning of all recovery.
In the end it takes meeting his mother and speaking to her the ballad of burning lungs and bated breath he can no longer sing for Maglor to understand this, to understand himself, and for Makalaurë to rise out of the ashes he has always feared so much.
