I hope y’all aren’t sick of me talking about Remy bc I got Many Things to say:

Why is it that we barely get any decent arcs for him anymore? Like I was reading through his wiki and doing research on his powerset/background and I’m sitting here just BEGGING for a writer to actually focus on him and not shove him into the background for the entirety of a comic run and the beginning and end of his role is “guy who is hot and also steals things but also acts dumb for some reason”. Here’s the thing: there’s this persistent and overlapping thing of him wanting to stay in total and complete control over his powers, and this intense need to stay in control leads him to bartering with Sinister (which is just a bad idea and he knew it was), but why is this never fully explored? Why don’t we learn the reason why he wants to stay in control? Why aren’t there character beats that center on his insecurities that don’t center on his romantic interests? Why is this theme of him not wanting to be owned or used really focused on and is usually written off as a one-time thing?

And furthermore, why is it that when he’s at his lowest moments, absolutely no one is there to help him and how come he just magically gets over it without us seeing it? If there’s anything I learned by looking into Remy and roleplaying him on discord is that his character is in fact very interesting and NOT BORING. There’s so much potential for him but absolutely no writers nowadays want to give him that justice (bc any writer just wants to use 90s nostalgia for him and not actually add anything substantial to his character) and it’s frustrating coming from someone who appreciates his character so highly. And I know other fans agree too. 

It doesn’t help that basically every nuanced character is being broken down into their most basic traits (like Kurt, Pietro, Emma, too many others), but the fact that they took a character who’s popular because of how complex he is (and yes, he was at one point just as popular as Logan, I fact checked this) and made him boring is just so disappointing. I really wish we get a good writer soon to resurrect whatever the hell Remy’s character has become because I’m sick of this.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. Like Remy IS complex, he isn’t just a happy go lucky heart throb thief who can blow things up. He’s SMART. I love the himbo husband trope as much as the next person but oh my god they have dumbed Remy down so much it’s annoying. He has his own past that so many plots can be drawn from yet writers do nothing interesting with him. Part of the reason why I dislike when he is with Rogue is because suddenly it’s all about their “romance” and it’s not even really centered on him, it’s about Rogue, it’s so one sided. None of his other friendships is talked about. I seriously wish there was someone in the x office who cared half as much about Remy as the fans.

Oh yeah I’m with you there, I like the idea of him being a cute husband but because of the fact that there was zero build-up to make him being married convincing, but him being married also zapped away his entire personality. (I talked with my friend about this and they said it’s possible he just mellowed out since being married but,,,,someone’s personality shouldn’t change that much after getting married.) And now all his character arc is doing is him just being content with everything now and not voicing his own opinions on things ever. Like the whole thing with Sinister and Apoc being on Krakoa, those two are the last people on Earth he would trust and yet he’s said absolutely nothing on them being there. Maybe there was one (1) moment in Excalibur where he voiced concern, but that was bc it was centered around Anna. Once again. He has very good reason to not trust Apoc that doesn’t involve his romantic relationships and yet that’s the beginning and end of it. (I won’t give Excalibur too much credit bc then they had him being so protective over Anna that he just didn’t care about Betsy, Jubilee, or Julio- which is just hot garbage to me bc you’re gonna tell me he doesn’t care about his team, a team that consists of people he knows closely and trusts? I don’t buy it.)

Tbh this reminds me of a convo I had a bit ago where I basically went into how him being content with everything and being perfectly okay not doing anything involving the X-Men is actually build-up to him realizing he was just acting this way bc he wanted to be what Anna wanted of him even if it isn’t fulfilling anymore, and then it clicks that he isn’t happy seeing all his friends fling themselves into danger while he sits back and watches. Like did we forget why he joined X-Factor?? He joined X-Factor because he wanted to help people, yeah he’s not in the X-Men but he still wants to make a difference somehow. So it’s just so off to me that he would happily choose to just let others do that kind of thing while he does nothing. Like it goes against his entire established personality to me????

I wanna see him interact with his other friends, maybe struggle with his powers bc there’s no way he’s in total control without breaking a sweat from time to time (-stares at Remy’s death persona-), and y’know, maybe actually face his insecurities and learn that he actually isn’t 100% mentally okay despite the mask he puts on. (bc yeah, everyone seemed to forget he’s a people pleaser and goes the extra mile for people closest to him without really caring about his own wellbeing but whatever, not like that would be interesting to explore bc then it would highlight how little he thinks of himself. not an interesting character arc at all) But y’know, don’t know when we’ll actually get a decent writer for him but I’ll remain optimistic for now.
