“Authors should not be ALLOWED to write about–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“This book should be taken off of shelves for featuring–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“Schools shouldn’t teach this book in class because–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“Nobody actually likes or wants to read classics because they’re–” you are an anti-intellectual and an idiot

“I only read YA fantasy books because every classic novel or work of literary fiction is problematic and features–” you are an anti-intellectual and you are robbing yourself of the full richness of the human experience.

"you are functionally a conservative" is such a good and clarifying insult

Literally right after I saw this post, I saw another post in a discord chat for BOOK EDITORS in which an outspokenly liberal editor talked about how Nabokov should have never been published because he wrote about p*dophiles and described women's bodies in ways that made her uncomfortable. She described his writing as "objectively terrible" and said she wanted to burn his books. And other editors were bringing up classics they didn't like and talking about how they wanted to throw them in the trash. This wasn't like a light "unpopular opinion!" conversation. This was actual book editors talking about how books should be destroyed and censored.

There is something so scary and toxic in global culture right now. The revival of fascism is influencing everyone's mindset and approach to art, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

I see far more books being censored today than when I was a kid. Librarians handed me The Catcher in the Rye, The Sexual Politics of Meat, and Animal Farm when I was literally 8-11. My mom would never have taken a book away from me. I read everything from the Tao Te Ching to the Qur'an to atheist texts under my desk at school. Teachers thought nothing of it or encouraged it. Books seemed universally acknowledged as sacrosanct to me.

Now I can't find any adults who don't hesitate or want to make exceptions when it comes to censorship. Even the most liberal social activist librarians I know go, "well except for book X..."

Functionally conservative. It's so important to have the language to express that.

Thank you for this addition!

And, following up on the previous post …

“This makes me uncomfortable” is NOT a valid reason for censorship

These fucking book editors should remove themselves from the profession ASAP 😡

The only reason a book should be removed, the ONLY reason, is “we are keeping it in the restricted section for research because its only intended function is to cause harm.”

And to be clear, when I say this, I’m talking about shit like To Train Up A Child and The Protocols of Zion. One is a text responsible for the deaths of multiple children because it’s an abuse how-to, and the other is entirely fabricated “protocols” from a group that never actually existed but is claimed to represent all Jews, and it’s basically one long antisemitic screed.

And even these should be available. Just. Not where they’re gonna be used to start a white supremacist cult.

I keep forgetting Tim’s current robinsuit has thigh highs because my mind is convinced he’s just got some weird kneepad situation going on

When the colourist goes full green it’s easier to see that he is in fact slaying that shit

the saddest thing about life is that tattoos cost many money. oh and traveling? also costs many money. video games? many money. starting a new hobby? usually many money. concerts? so many money and also good luck even getting tickets. going out and getting a fancy beverage? you know the drill.

sometimes I randomly think about the time a girl posted in this girls only Facebook group I’m in telling everyone how she broke up with her boyfriend and he lied saying that he lost the spare key she gave him, only to then break into her apartment when she wasn’t home and steal the cat they’d adopted while they were together, but then he denied having done this and she didn’t really have proof that he took the cat since he wouldn’t let her come into his place and look for it. And then another girl saw this post and knew her ex-boyfriend, and she was like “girl. I used to hook up with your mans back in xxxx and I still have his number. If you want, I’ll hit him up and get him to invite me back to his place and see if your cat’s there.” And the OP was like “bet.”

So this woman hit up homie dog, asked him out for drinks, went home with him, slept with him, and then woke up in the middle of the night and TOOK THE CAT. Like she had only said that she would confirm if the cat was there but then she took it upon herself to steal this woman’s cat back. Like she full on Trojan horsed this man and then hit up homegirl like “I got the goods. Where you wanna meet.” And then the two of them posted a photo of them together with the cat to the group.

And I just think women supporting women is so beautiful.

I wonder how mark zuckerberg feels about the fact that he revolutionized social media and the general internet landscape, thereby opening the door for people to come online years later and say that the movie about him and his college best friend is totally gay

This is gonna sound weird to anyone not in the know of animation and the industry but I am so here's an opinion I think some might understand.

I want Beyond the spiderverse to be delayed so fucking bad, I want to wait 20 YEARS before this movie is released because they decided to nitpick some details in the background of a single shot, I want the animators to clock in, work for 9 hours in one day and clock out, if anyone on that project is sick or needs to be off the project for a while I want them to have a full week if they so wish without the movie or the other animators suffering.

I want this movie to simmer, I want it to age like a fine wine, and if that means I'm 12 feet under then shit hold a movie night in the graveyard and I'll still be grateful.

ATSV was outstanding but it came at the cost of the animators being worked like DOGS and 100 of them quitting due to multiple redos of finished work and what I can only imagine was exhausting 11hr work days.

If delaying BTSV means we get, what is likely to be, and incredible work of art that the people working on the team didn't have to suffer for then that movie should be delayed, fuck I would PAY to have the movie delayed if it meant the artist won't suffer and Beyond comes out better than it could be.

This is probably nonsensical but after watching ATSV and listening to multiple talks from people in the industry (even including people who worked on Into and Across the spiderverse) I just noticed a slight pattern with these movies.

I hope kids outgrow their obsession with “moral purity” so they can embrace and enjoy fiction as adults without restrictions. Indulging in fantasy should be a fun, relaxing outlet instead of a source of stress, constantly worrying about your taste in characters and ships being a “reflection” of your morals when it isn’t.

Fictional characters aren’t real people, and no one is being harmed by what you do with them. Quit worrying about being “god-honoring,” and have fun your way.

spiderverse fanart, spiderverse fanart I hear. Oh god they’re back. The voices, the voices

This is random, but I'm watching the Snyder Cut and it just got to the scene of Bruce going over the mountain to find Arthur and I thought to myself "this guy is Relentless" and I realized that I wished there were more Batman fics that explored that. Especially from an outsider POV. Imagine being a villain trying to do crime and the Gotham Creeper is dogging your every step and no matter what you do he just. Keeps. Coming. Ugh. I love Batman.

Yes! Exactly!!

The way I think about it, Bruce has (almost) never found a problem he couldn’t throw money or his body at. Money, being obvious, and his body as in the outer/upper limits of what a human in peak physically condition can truly do.

The problems he can’t solve by being physically faster or stronger or by having limitless gear and technology involve the mind. Bruce — both canonically and in Snyder’s movies — reaches a genius-level intellect, but I don’t think that’s the most important part. It’s, as you mentioned, his relentlessness that’s the linchpin in all of this.

Batman can hunt you down to the ends of the earth; he can outrun you and outfight you if you’re human; he can outsmart you. But most importantly, he is like the ancient hunters, steady and ever-present a quarter mile behind their quarry, unwilling and unable to simply give up.

He will outlast you, and when you stumble, he will be there with bared teeth.
