Dude, putting Xina Kwan up against y/n for Miguel’s affection is like putting a hydrogen bomb against a coughing baby.

Like my man is frothing at the mouth at the thought of having a second chance w this pixie manic dream girl he knew since middle school.

Xina was one of the first people who actually cared about his well-being and protected him when no one else would stand up. She outsmarted his father and made George look unbelievably stupid without letting George know.

She made LYLA, probably one of the only gifts he’s probably received from someone other than his brother. An AI he treats like a close companion and confidant because I’m sure she reminds him too much of Xina.

MAN WAS LITERALLY W ANOTHER WOMAN AND STILL KEPT A PHOTO OF HIM AND XINA BY HIS BEDSIDE. HE IS NOT OVER HER.

Their dynamic is incredibly interesting in that it goes against what people would expect from a cheating situation. Xina knows he fucked up, he knows he fucked up. YET SHES WILLING TO FORGIVE HIM BECAUSE SHES SEEING HIM CHANGE.

The theme of fixing past mistakes is so integral to miguels narrative and it so relevant in the rebuilding of trust between Xina and Miguel’s relationship. Its just so much more nuanced and interesting seeing them get back together than if they went their separate ways.

(I’m not at all endorsing forgiving a cheating partner irl, it just works for this fictional world because of the character growth and context)

She’s weird, she’s badass, she’s beautiful, and a great example of fun woc in the narrative. (whenever they’re not using her as a step stool for Dana and other 2099 writing choices). Her and miguel banter so well off of each other and she’s one of the only people he can let his guard down around.

Literally I can’t see Miguel with anyone other than her. Their two idiots fumbling around each other and I love it.

Miguel wearing special gloves/mitts and booties to bed to make sure he doesn't accidentally claw Xina in his sleep.

Thinking abt a universe/au where both of Miles parents are dead so .. Xina and Miguel adopt him...

some xina kwan observations:

- is into American football and baseball and specifically collects memorabilia for it. her favorite teams are the New York Yankees (as she wore Yankees shirt when Miguel came to her dorm as a kid, also I haven’t seen her wear any orange with her sports outfits so she probably isn’t a mets fan unfortunately) and the New York Giants! (she has a football helmet with a big ‘G’ in a similar font to their 70s logo and her jacket is the same designs/color scheme associated with the giants. I’m putting my money that these are her favorite teams because as a former collector of old sports wear……it’s an expensive af interest lol)

- is of implied Cantonese descent. Most likely from Hong Kong. Kwan is the HK Cantonese spelling of Guan. Also her name (Xina) means beautiful sunrise/dawn (曦=Xi, sunrise/dawn and 娜=Na, meaning beautiful or elegant!)

- Into gardening! Has a lot of plants on her balcony. And biking as well :)

- Most likely a Marxist-Leninist or has left wing leaning views. This is evident on how she is disapproving of corporations and the fact she has the USSR flag up in her apartment and I honestly don’t think non-Marxists would have that type of stuff sorry LMAO….she could just be really into the Cold War era of the Twencen in particular but the dots are connecting a bit too much for me i fear

- Tends to wear a lot of yellow, green, blue, and brown!

- Thouuuuuhh cosmetically she likes red/warm colors!!! Also she wears acrylics in the panels and is still able to recode Lyla in them. Also likes to curl/style her hair, I’m noticing a lean towards styles more associated with the 50s-70s.

- The colorists keep switching her eye colors from blue to green to brown, maybe she wears contacts? Also black hair to brown hair too…..maybe she dyes her hair often.

- Stated that she used to work for Alchemax in World of Tomorrow.

- Is on good terms with her family or at least good enough terms to visit them casually.

Fun fact: they did leave Pompeii! It's estimated that the population pre-eruption was something like 20,000, and the most likely number of dead in is in the range of 1,500-4,000. So most people just did leave Pompeii, it's just that not everyone left or could leave.

OK, so, hear me out, but we all know xina has a car.

she looks badass with it, she is one with it. the car looks so retro and funky; it just has the perfect perception of what the past thinks the future is. It has that certain charm that others (or no one) ever had when they thought of a vehicle that, may or may not, have existed. And I feel like the opportunity within that car is tremendous.

so why am I suddenly talking abt this? simple. a scene where she just goes crazy with it.

can you imagine her just drifting around certain places while being chased, and she just pulls the car at the maximum speed, and then suddenly it becomes a fast and furious movie (bonus if Miguel is at the backseat, or Gabriel, or the both of them; the more the merrier! heck, we can also have Miles there if it fits the narrative. Or crazier, bring the whole cast in to her car)

and then we have tokyo drift in the background playing, while she makes an illegal left in the next scene. its one thing I very much hyperfixate, and oddly enough, it helps me to go back to sleep.

one thing I like to add, but Miguel is the passenger prince. I do not make the rules.
