The two of you were in the process of deep cleaning Eddie’s van, a monthly ritual you had made him start because if it was up to Eddie he’d clean his van maybe twice a year. You made him in charge of cleaning out the back while you mostly dealt with the front, not bothering to ask what was trash or something he wanted to keep because you’d been together for over six months now so you know what he deemed keep worthy or not. You were holding a trash bag and cleaning out the cigarette butts and random wrappers from his driver’s side door when you noticed something.
“What’s this?” Eddie turns his head in the direction of your voice, he raises an eyebrow until he sees you reach over to a Polaroid photo taped securely to his dashboard right next to his speedometer carefully placed so it wasn’t blocking anything important.
“A photo.” You roll your eyes at his answer as you lean in closer so you can get a better look, you assume it’s a photo of a band he saw play at the hide out a few days ago but when you get close enough to see the details you feel your eyes widen.
“When did you take this?” You drop the trash bag making it land at your feet so you could climb into the driver’s seat so you could get an even better look at the picture. You feel the van rock a bit as Eddie not so gracefully climbs from the back so he is now sitting in the passenger seat.
“About a week ago.” He watches you run a finger over the picture, he smiles as he remembers the exact moment he took it. You were laid out on his bed your hair fanned out on one of his pillows and a book in your hand and you had a smile on your face having no clue he was even taking your photo since you were so wrapped up in what you were reading. “Figured it’s too good not to have on display.” He adds knowing what your next question was going to be. You sit back in the seat and look over at him, he reaches for your hand so he can bring it up to his lips for a sweet kiss to your knuckles.
“You really want to have a picture of me out for everyone to see?” Your voice is soft, your usual confidence gone making Eddie just give your hand a reassuring squeeze. He knows you’re new to the whole relationship thing so he’s not at all surprised at your reaction to seeing your photo in his van.
“Of course.” He lets go of your hand so he can lean over and brush some of your hair out of your face. “I want the whole world to see who I get to call mine.” You feel your cheeks get hot as you look back at the photo on the dash. “Also I like to have something to look at while sitting in traffic.” Your little laugh makes Eddie smile as he leans over to kiss your cheek.
“But if you don’t like it I can take it down sweetheart.” You shake your head as you reach for one of his hands, he smiles as he watches you mindlessly twirl the ring on his pointer finger. “I can just put it in my wallet with the other one.” Your movements pause as you look at him with a confused expression written on your face making a playful smirk take over his.
“You have one in your wallet?” Eddie just nods as he fishes his wallet out of his back pocket so he can hand it to you. You let go of his hand and as soon as you open the worn out black leather wallet you see a photo of you, it’s from the day you two had spent at lover’s lake a few months ago and based on how worn the edges of the photo were you knew he’d had it in there for a while.
“Can’t have that one out for the world to see.” He shoots you a wink as you hand hand his wallet back to him. “It’s for my eyes only.” You just sit back and look at him for a moment as he leans back in the passenger seat getting comfortable, all of a sudden it dawns on you just how much the long haired metal head, that was now looking at you with his big brown eyes, cared about you.
“You really like me huh?” Eddie just laughs as he reaches for your hand again, you let him intertwine your fingers as he gives you a little shrug.
“Like you? Damn baby I thought we were in love.” You laugh as you find yourself leaning over the center console so you can meet Eddie half way so your noses are touching.
“I love you Eddie Munson.” You whisper as he places a kiss to your forehead while his free hand cups the side of your face.
“I love you too sweetheart.” You smile as he kisses the tip of your nose before his lips finally find yours for a sweet kiss. 💖

Firstly, find a good song that gets you worked up or excited (preferably an 80s song- I chose Footloose by Kenny Loggins) and put that on loop somehow. If you want to be extra, you can add affs on top of it. If desired, you could also use a song that reminds you of a certain character! (Or a playlist)
Ok so if you want to before you shift, do some breathing exercises. I like to inhale for 3, hold for 3, then exhale for 3. Try to release all the stress and tension in your body. Keep breathing on beat, at this point it’s ok if you wanna move around a little (or dance-)
This is where the actual method begins. (I took some inspiration from the official stranger things Rockin Robin book-) Try your best to visualize you either
A) Running through the halls of Hawkins High with your favorite character(s)
or
B) The song you chose comes on at homecoming or some type of dance and you dance with your favorite character(s)
If you want to make up your own scenario do that, these are just ideas!! Also it doesn’t have to be a romantic character, you could be Nancy’s age and dance with Dustin platonically like they do in the earlier season. Anyway-
You’re just going to want to really listen to the song. Push the visualizing until it’s realistic (if possible oFc) Really pay attention in the visualization how you are your characters feet and hands move, and what’s happening. What do you hear? Who are you running from, or what’s your thoughts while dancing?
Now you’re gonna affirm like hell while still visualizing as much as humanly possible. Are you singing the song in this scenario? If so, what does your voice sound like? Once again, just try and be there, realistic as possible.
It’s okay if you get distracted during this process, nuerodivergency makes it difficult sometimes -.-
“I am dancing with ____ and it’s ____ (fun, boring, etc.)”
“I am running from ___ with ___ and it’s ___ (exhilarating, impulsive, etc.)”
“My name is ___ and (another feature)”
Non Visualizing Option:
Basically what you’re gonna wanna do is complete the first and second paragraphs, then we’re gonna listen to the song for a second. Clear your thoughts as best you can, and get ready to affirm like crazy. (I hope this doesn’t require too much visuals) Next, we’re gonna affirm about either a friend or a partner- the main character (or one of them) you want to shift for. Describe them. What’s their hair like? Their smell, clothing, music taste, anything? Next, describe yourself. What do you look like or feel like when you’re with them? What makes you guys so good together?
I wann make it very clear that you can forget steps and change stuff. Everyone shifts different bro, stop worrying. It’s okay if you have to repeat a visual or if you want to stop visualizing. Please be safe while shifting and take care of yourself. I love you 💗
