Let's talk about nomad schools
(also known as l*p schools and Sami schools)
Beginning in the 19th century, the church and governments that controlled sapmi (the land where the Sami live) established boarding schools meant to strip away Sami culture.
Christians and the government saw Sami and Sami culture as inferior and sought to destroy it, so all Sami children in Sweden were forced into these boarding schools
In norway, they attempted to make the sami "as Norwegian as possible" by employing these schools
it was only until 1998 when sami were recognized and gained political power.
these schools are often compared to the residential schools used to assimilate the indigenous population of Turtle island (so-called America)
they have harmed the sami community and many people who have experienced these schools are still alive today
