This isn’t really “fitting” with my blog, but it’s quite important to me that I share it, since I have a significant-ish following on here. I’ll let my very dear friend speak for himself:
For those of you who don’t know, about 4 months ago my older sister, an absolute genius studying her Masters, and the person who meant to most to me in the world, spontaneously developed a medical condition that had her at death’s door for a long period and has now left her with severe brain damage.
Unfortunately for some ridiculous reasons (that even I don’t understand the bureaucratic intricacies of), she has left hospital with zero ongoing rehab/therapy.
My sister has gone from having an encyclopaedic knowledge of literature and politics to someone who cannot feed herself, wash herself or even hold a proper conversation.
Yet there’s no ongoing therapy for her.
Her doctors say that due to her age and previous cognitive abilities, Rikki has an excellent chance of regaining some function.
Yet no services in Australia are able to provide the care and treatment she requires.
Here comes the awkward part.
To get Rikki the treatment she needs, we’ve had to set up a crowdfunding campaign.
Even if you can’t contribute money (I get it, we are students), please consider sharing and liking this post so the maximum number of people possible see it.
