I love Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 7 issue #4 for the great classic references for Richard Rider. When his flowing hair resembles a crown of thorns. And the pose refers to the Renaissance artists and Saint Sebastian (with all his traditional and modern symbolism), all this is very suitable for Richard.

any body got any silken tofu recipes that aren't "make it into a dessert" or other egg-replacement?

We're not vegan/vegetarian and not into pretending stuff is a meat substitute when it has its own culinary history.

Firm tofu is not agreeable for texture reasons.

I've got mapo tofu (korean style so i don't have to worry about sichuan pepper) and... (。_。)

great news op silken tofu goes with absolutely everything

I genuinely think @staff should give us an official Bot Kill Count where it ticks up every time a bot you reported is officially taken off by the tumblr team and when you hit a certain number you get gruesome little trophies. Gamification can be of the devil but in this particular case I need a little treat for doing my daily chore of taking out the trash

The mental shift between realising this is animated.

there are so many things great about this aside from how hardcore this mosh pit is

- the shield that gets launched into the stratosphere as soon as the armies collide - the guy on the left side who somehow manages to do a complete 180 in all of the mayhem and dives out of frame -the guy on the right side who decides not to get involved and runs right past the camera - the final dude who trips in the least natural way possible

Finally CGI has advanced far enough that we have the ending to Monty Python and the Holy Grail that we deserve

Offense intended, some of you are dumb

Like some of you are whole adults who still believe that the world operates in extremes of What Is Good and What Is Bad and that these things exist at polar opposite ends of a straight road, where every possible morally ambiguous thing must fit tidily along that line.

Someone will make the very reasonable point that Hollywood is oversexualised and often sex scenes in movies are uncomfortable because the tone and characterisations don't support the plot halting for sex, and it's clear the (usually male) director just inserted the scene for his own gratification, often with an unevenly sexualized attention on the women in the scene, sometimes demeaning or undermining that woman's character arc... and some of you demons will respond to that like "Bah! You naive puritan! Go marry the Hayes code if you love it so much!"

And equally someone else will make the valid point that sex and eroticism should be explorable in media, particularly to increase representation for queer/disabled/poc groups who often have limited (or no) sexual agency in mainstream media, and these scenes should not be subject to censorship... and some self described Smol Bean on this site will tell you that sex is never necessary on screen and you can just "suggest" that these "activities" are happening

And instead of being moderate and critically thinking individuals, thousands of you will just grab your pitchforks and flock to one of these two extreme reactions as being the "correct" mentality, sending hate (Why??) to people who disagree with you as if any of us here have meaningful power over how sex is handled in popular media

Any way long story short you're being dumb

ever since i heard the phrase “outrage addiction” a *lot* of online behavior has really been clicking into place for me. because like, righteous anger feels good. to feel like you’re fighting for a cause is another avenue for dopamine production. and places like twitter and facebook get that and understand that outrage is a great method for maintaining engagement on their platform, which is why their algorithms drive it. but republicans also understand it and have been using it as their core political strategy for decades, and you see it replicated on this hellsite plenty as well, although probably less consciously/more organically than elsewhere. it feels good to be justifiably angry and to tear something down, and i think a lot of users have begun to seek that out without realizing that’s what they’re doing.

OP thinks there are 2 sides to this debate but there are actually 3. Here's my issue -- "enlightened critical thinkers" always make the conversation about *quality* of representation when it should be about *variety* of representation.

Why aren't marginalized people allowed to have bad taste?

I love garbage tv.

I'm brown and queer and neurodivergent and you can pry my beloved trashy soap operas out of my cold dead hands.

The question shouldn't be whether a sex scene is gratuitous or not. Instead we should question why we only ever get to see one kind of gratuity -- the kind that fulfills straight white male dominance fantasies.

.

We love to talk about how marginalized people deserve "better" media. We don't talk enough about how marginalized people also deserve bad media that caters to our unique bad tastes.

I'm tired of arguments debating the artistic merit of sex scenes. I don't actually want all the media I consume to have artistic merit. Sometimes I just want to turn my brain off and watch beautiful people be horny dumbasses.

I deserve that!

I deserve gratuity! I deserve mess! I deserve absurd nonsense! I deserve shameless pandering!

And this is why I tend to take issue with many supposedly "reasonable" criticisms of hyper-sexualization in media. Because too many people conflate being reasonable with being pretentious.

what will i say about her?

just this - the catalogues of the way that you miss her will fill libraries. even the moon will wonder at the pull she has on you. you are good now, but you will be better when you find her. what you don't know about love yet - what you don't know, and what she will show you - it is the difference between a cup of water and the body of the ocean.

i go through phases of hating what i look like so entirely that it almost becomes asinine. it's so completely without sense that i will look in a mirror and see something other - just a not-me, something ugly but vain, nasty-looking and rabid - and i watch her make my life miserable. i don't want to care. but i care. something in that feels like a joke. even after all this time, that little girl is still so resentful.

it is a brave, and wounded place - loving in despite of your trauma. it always gets painted as one loop upwards: we go to therapy, we get better.

you will love deeper, you will love kinder, you will love more (in spades, in large swatches of caution tape, free and unbidden; the numb finally slushing away)

but you will still sit on the floor of your apartment and feel heinous little snatches of your mental illness. you will unwind over small things. you will desperately want some-kind-of-validation, but know there's actually-something-else-here, a thirst unable to be slaked, a hunger that causes you to rip open the world so it understands your pain. you'll think about how you want to leave before you get left, how the hurt will be so manageable if you just steal out the back door and run with your bare feet. you will call it a controlled detonation, your tongue dry while you plan relocating to the city.

but you will exit the car fire of your childhood and you will hold the child you didn't get to be and you'll say: shush now. we won't run, we know how to make our home.

and the child will say: it's all sand. there's no foundation. the world isn't safe to build upon.

and we will stretch our hands and our old back and the hips that keep clicking. and we will say: from sand we made glass. and what else is there to say after that? the world isn't safe. the world isn't always kind.

but you have survived it, and it makes it just a little easier, each time, to spread yourself over the water and feel like you are swimming.

literary snippets over which i am losing my mind this week:

“(we are not single; we are one)” (virginia woolf)

“why was she dancing? no reason. just alive, I guess (george saunders)

“touch me this time / let me love what I cannot know” (w.s. merwin)

“and when I found you laughing under trees, / The quail began to trill and flute away, / As far away as hands that reach for hands; / But, when it sang, you kissed me out of sound.” (james wright)

“what on earth can you do on this earth but catch at whatever comes near you, with both your fingers, until your fingers are broken?” (tennessee williams)

“come back! even as a shadow, even as a dream! (euripides)

“with every word I write I remember the void that makes me write what I couldn’t if I let you in.(alejandra pizarnik)

“I am dying alone /  don’t wake me… / kiss me once again… / and sleep...” (saadi youssef)

“and the nights were as dark as my baby / half as beautiful too” (hozier)

Concentration camps are opening in Russia.

Do not let us die again, we where left once before because of a part of ourselves we can’t control.

Don’t let is die, don’t ignore our cries.

LGBT concentration camps are Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov solution to the “gay problem”. This is real. This is happening right now

We are grateful to everyone who contacted us and asked how they can help. What do we need now? - Help us to spread the information about the fact that the Russian LGBT Network is ready to evacuate people. Please think for whom this information can be useful. You can spread the information publicly or personally. Everyone who needs help can contact us by email or call the Hotline (8 800 555 73 74). The call is free all over Russia. - In accordance with the Russian legislation, every citizen can apply to the Investigative Committee with the demand to investigate the information about the crime published in mass media. We encourage everyone to apply (the template of the claim will be published tomorrow).
We understand that many people want to help those in need. But please remember that any uncoordinated actions can put in additional danger people in need and those who are ready to help. Therefore, we do not recommend to collect the addresses of people who are ready to provide temporarily shelter.
Be aware, that the situation with the human rights in the North Caucasus is truly difficult. Now people’s lives are endangered and the only way to help is the evacuation. The Russian LGBT Network has the necessary resources to evacuate people, there is a team that already makes every effort to safe lives. That is why we ask everyone to share with us the information about people in need and any offers of assistance.

the highlighting was mine- don’t dm people asking if they’re ok and if they know about this. even if you think your messaging system is secure. encryption is a two way street, and if their end is NOT secured it doesn’t really matter what your end has. especially since those arrested have had their phones confiscated, you do not want to give the authorities any more evidence. however, if you are in a position to do so, posting about it publicly will increase the odds that those who need this information see it.
