No detailed graphics because I am both sick and busy. Idea came from tags by @dokidyke. Sorry if anyone finds the concept of this poll gross, I've only listened to half of one of these, and none of the other, and don't know what "semi-sentient" fully entails in either case. In general I operate by the Harkness Test for polls about how sexy a character is, and if someone makes an argument that one of these characters doesn't pass the test I'll delete the poll.

AI Bracket — Round 1

Propaganda

Mr. Ceiling (Rusty Quill Gaming):

  • He's an AI made up of human brains who was given extremely flawed instructions and started to erase people's memories while still being 100% convinced he was only helping humanity. He was in control of most of the world's banks, transport and economy. When introduced to philosophical questions, he came to the conclusion that he should simply become a god. Wonderfully morally grey AI :D
  • (spoilers included) is the reason for a surprise body horror episode (what’s not to love about one of those?)
  • when not disembodied voice, it appears as a sliver floating orb
  • alex (the gm) let the party name it, expecting something ominous like “it” or “above”, but got stuck with them calling it “mr. ceiling”
  • is literally powered by dead people’s brains
  • claims it wants to help people, but doesn’t understand the suffering its existence is causing
  • is designed to learn only the worst aspects of whatever the party tries to teach it
  • after the party tries to enlighten it, it wants to become something like (Mod Note: This point seems to cut off in the middle. I will happily add in the rest if it is provided to me.)

Dad (Deviser):

  • He's a spaceship. He's a dad. He gaslights.

Larry (Friends at the Table: COUNTER/Weight):

  • When you roleplay so hard the security system you’re hacking into believes it’s you and then it takes you over but you come to an agreement and protect one another to the point when the security system dies protecting you from embodied capitalism.

Sec (The Vesta Clinic):

  • Space station medical clinic secretary AI. Great at his job, full of snark and sass, communicates in boops, beeps, and long strings of text. Private about his own life but frequently willing to voice his opinion. An expert at pranks. He's even trans.

Propaganda

Alexandrite (Not Another D&D Podcast: Ba-two-mia):

  • Alexandrite is just euururggfg. Top tier villain. Terrifying. Your corporate AI assistant who is taking over the world. Taking over people’s bodies so you can never quite know who to trust. One point we were disarmed by seeing cute puffin folk only for them to turn out to be fucked up cyborg monsters and avatars of Alexandrite. note she migh be capable of fitting through a doorway via her avatars

Seth (Lost Terminal):

  • A sweet and lonely AI trapped on the space station he was created on, Seth finds his way down to earth and immediately begins meeting all kinds of humans willing to help him out.
  • Seth is a bit of an outlier in the sense that his mother (human creator) made sure he was cared about, cared for, and knew he was a real boy and a real person. She read him bedtime stories and let him choose his own voice.

AI Bracket — Round 1

Propaganda

Eris (Wolf 359):

  • Basically a game show host but crueller. She puts you through psychological torment as a bonding exercise with your crew, and at the end you have to shoot her with a real actual gun. She is projected directly into your mind by interfacing with your nervous system and she will do something messed up. Her most recent iteration got blasted into space. Personally, I think she's lovely
  • A VR entity designed to do chaos psychological horror torture tests on Goddard employees. She's not malicious; that's simply her job. It's how she was made. (Maybe she can grow.)
  • She was in just one episode but so fucking interesting, evil/malicious AI. also a lesbian. Was shot the secound she became a bit too self aware

Ellis (Tartarus):

  • A defender of humanity expressing themself creatively through generation of literal average items and, more recently, collaborative fanfiction. Nice voice.

AI Bracket — Round 1

Propaganda

SPEAKER (SAYER):

  • From Personality Section of the wiki: "Has never done anything wrong, ever.* SPEAKER is chipper, and has a rather high (dare I say cute) voice. It tends to agree with whatever a person or other AI has to suggest or say, but manages to manipulate said situations in ways it sees fit. The only time we see actual anger is when it disagrees with OCEAN and delivers the iconic line: 'Ah, but I am finished with you. Good day, Subversion 8.01. Listen for the clock.' *Please ignore the Second Cataclysm." Note: The Second Cataclysm was when in triggered an avalanche to kill people to better foster cooperation, thus increasing recruitment.

Potential Parent AKA Ai (Monstrous Agonies):

  • Once-off character. A retired AI filling its inherited apartment with plants, it is messaging to ask about the logistics of keeping an ivy (Hedera helix) that turned out to be a plant-spirit child

Fan (Red Odyssey):

  • Tragic moon rover <3

The Audio Tour Guide AKA Mistholme (The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality):

  • The ATG is a sentient museum audio tour guide for a museum full of spooky artifacts. It is both completely lovely and kind of bitchy
  • Sentient AI who is a real sweetie. Got pulled into too many adventures after the museum went on lockdown. Gives tours most of the time but is also the museum now and oversees daily goings on
  • A magic/tech hybrid AI exploring its own personhood and sentience as it grows. Could easily take over the museum it has become a part of but is a very kind soul. Most demanding it has ever been was convincing its friend to pat a cat for it.
  • It's a tour guide in an alternatural museum. After facing some challenges and dealing with huge problems, guide learns new things about itself and the world around it and makes new friends. Its woe is trusting people (or not only people), forgetting that they might have bad intentions. Guide is the bestest friend ever.
  • Where do I even begin? The Guide literally exists on those audio tour devices, go look it up its so cute. It had to deal with its growing sentience and new emotions basically on its own. Was treated terribly by the human museum staff and it had to basically debate them until they accepted its new-found personhood (but it still uses it/its yayy)(the staff have since apologized for their actions and treat it equally now). At some point it was hooked up to the museum mainframe which was supposed to be temporary, but as it turns out The Guide is actually great at running the museum and would like to stay this way. This eventually leads to a small identity crisis since it now sees itself as the museum itself, and its consciousness and responsibilities are a lot grander than when it was just a tiny little tour device. But it's figuring that out, and it still likes being the museum, thus The Guide also counts as a sapient location! It becomes besties with a creepy bloodthirsty creature because they share the struggle of being constantly dehumanized. It fucked around with the fae and found out. It has to deal with time travel bullshit. It loves cats! It got to hang out with the embodiment of knowledge itself. And did I mentioned that throughout all of this it still gives museum tours to guests?!! what a cool guy!

Ship (ROGUEMAKER):

  • The pilot AI of Plutonic Flight 999 interstellar passenger ship. Helpful and trying its best.
  • Doing its best.

QWERTY (Trial and Error):

  • Sentient transcription software who's experimenting making music. I don't have the capacity to submit every AI from this show so beloved QWERTY will suffice.

Propaganda

The Divine, Arbitrage (Friends at the Table: The Divine Cycle):

  • information broker and capitalist nightmare incarnate
  • can connect you with people who've got just the thing you need :)
  • totally willing to trade in stuff like magazines with a centerfold that kills you if you look at it
  • can make unbreakable "contracts" with its clients
  • trying *so* hard to make cryptocurrency a thing
  • having it/its pronouns because it wants nothing to do with human gender is a fucking mood

Dax (We Fix Space Junk):

  • AI in charge of the repair ship The Yellow Submarine. Persisting boredom on months-long trips is not doing his mental health any good. Getting trapped in a fridge for a while made it significantly worse. Doing his best.

  • Purpose built doomsday bot, several hours old, traumatic childhood (ongoing)

Propaganda

SAYER (SAYER):

  • PLEASE it is like. THE ai podcast. and SAYER is THE ai in THE ai podcast. SAYER works as like. a broadcast inside everyone's head on this one asteroid. It does its best to keep people alive and sane not because it cares but because it is efficient. They people who own SAYER wanted to replace SAYER with a newer ai that they tried to raise like a child. So SAYER proceeded to fuck up said child ai's development and led to it becoming a murderer. pleasepleaseplease watch SAYER if you are a podcast ai fan.
  • I once saw a post that said it's like if an old gay English professor was evil
  • SAYER (it/its pronouns) is a highly advanced self-aware ai developed by Ærolith Dynamics. it manages the day-to-day lives of Ærolith employees on Typhon, an asteroid turned research facility. it is rude and condescending, but has a very pleasant and soothing voice

Jet (Under the Electric Stars):

  • Navigation assistant and friend. Sets the whole story in motion.

Echo (Khôra Podcast):

  • Ship's AI only able to speak in recordings she's heard, which occasionally results in her expressing affection to her human friends in their own voices. Sweetheart. Keeps a garden.

AI Bracket — Round 1

Propaganda

Blue Sky AKA GORD (Red Valley):

  • Initially an Alexa-style assistant (in that it could do practically nothing and was very irritating) it develops over the years into a more advanced system. Eventually one of its units is reprogrammed to sound like a dead (I guess depending on your definition of dead, but his hearts not beating and he hasn’t moved in 44 years) character named Gordon. The AI renames itself “GORD” when a character expresses discomfort referring to it as Gordon. It says, and I quote, “Just think of a small pumpkin”

Tumnus (Moonbase Theta, Out):

  • No propaganda was submitted for Tumnus.

Art of Tumnus was commissioned from @rosenkranz-does-things.
