IF YOU NEED TO GET RID OF MINT, USE OTHER PLANTS IN THE MINT FAMILY!!!

Related plants like lavender, sage, and thyme are immune to mint’s phytotoxins and will crowd out the mint. Rosemary is my favorite mint-killer since it grows fast and wide (regular pruning helps it cover more area).

These plants are perennials, but they are likely to die after a season since mint can harbor root rot that will affect other Lamiaceae but not mint (or plants outside the family). Leave the plant waste to provide soil cover, the mint rhizomes may still be dormant (but will die out soon). The spring after your mint-killers die, you should get some colonizing vegetation. Once those plants fully take root, you’re good to plant whatever your heart desires in the soil!

How old were you the first time a Christian adult told you that you were going to hell? I was five, and it was for asking too many questions about Noah's Ark. And I wasn't allowed back at that Sunday school for that reason.

It's crazy thinking about how my experiences being sexually harassed and my experiences being religiously harassed align so well. The harassment started so young and stopped the moment I became an adult. But as a kid and teen? Cornered by adults at malls and outdoor festivals, comments made on my body and appearance by grown adults, forced to go to Christian events by adults who weren't even my parents where I'd be publicly humiliated for being a freak while adults told their children I was a demon to stay away from

And this is while growing up with a Seminole mom that was adopted by whites that convinced her that this country was taken as a reward by the Christians from the savage natives, because God is Good and Knows Best and this is The Greatest Country in the World

Frankly I don't give a shit if there's one good police department in a small town when the core of policing is inherently antihuman and genocidal. Police department? I meant church. Whoops

Note that the context of this GIF is that Zelda suspects the frog in question is psychoactive and is attempting to convince Link to eat it so that she can observe his reaction and determine whether she’s right.

Whether that makes it less romantic or more is left as an exercise for the reader.

no it's romantic. doing experiments on you is one of the main ways that girls show romance

unironically though the popularized idea of gender envy has been largely unhelpful to trans people imo even if we deserve our own terminology for expressing these feelings. maybe connecting almost exclusively to multiple injured and emaciated men in a neat little moodboard is indicative of a damaging self-image and not necessarily always an aesthetic preference.

i'm not saying you can't conceptualize your femininity / masculinity / androgyny / etc in terms of suffering. i often remember a quote i read in which a butch lesbian said she connected with johnny cash because his masculinity was associated with hardship much like her own. and i get that. i could name a few male horror icons who give me a really similar experience personally. but baking exclusively images of suffering into your identity isn't always ideal, and it glorifies a very specific type of suffering that can often be exclusionary to people who are not necessarily white thin able-bodied and so on

honestly what a fucking iconic response. obviously “hello my name is inigo montoya” is the fucking ultimate but we were all building up this confrontation, this fight, this moment right there alongside inigo who had been doing so for 20 (twenty) fucking years ~and in all that time did he ever think the count would just run away? ha lol no~ but then the count just fucking runs away. and yes it’s a moment of perfect comedic delivery/timing, but it’s also a classic moment of subversion in this movie that is so close to being perfect if not for westley’s shitty moustache (kudos to buttercup for still loving him even after she saw that). this film dances so delicately with fulfilling and subverting tropes and it’s moments like this that just exemplifies that

It’s also a super reasonable move. Count Rugen just watched this guy kill like four guys so fast the first hadn’t finished falling down when the last one was stabbed. This dude is no joke, and now he’s like “Oh also this isn’t about the king, I’m specifically here to kill YOU” and here the Count is in just some random hallway and Inigo has a huge guy behind him as backup and… yeah, absolutely not. Fucking run.

And I think that’s a big part of what makes it so funny, it’s not just that he’s subverting your expectations it’s that this is legitimately also the smart thing to do.

“hi, i’m an author and this is my american character, chair lightbulb.  in american, ‘chair’ means to be in a position of leadership, while ‘lightbulb’ means intelligence.  yeah it’s kind of an unusual name in american. she’s always been distant from her  american heritage, but her parents wanted her name to honor the american language, while still being unique.  don’t worry, she’s very embarrassed about her heritage and it will hardly ever come up.”

I have gone on and on about Patrick Testerone Swayze pursuing this role and nailing it, but I really do want to point out that Wesley Snipes has absolutely no shame talking about the role and has been known to bring it up when people list his movies and don't include it.

shadow being a short king is so important to me. hes the ultimate lifeform and brags about it all the time. hes soooo perfect. hey shadow can i measure your height with the platform boots off NO.

tails goes hey shadow, i need your height for this thing. and hes like yeah im 3'3", same as sonic. and tails goes nono i meant without the boots, can i measure you without the boots. shadow says no i dont get why youd need me to take off my boots youre only gonna see me with the boots. tails smells weakness but instead of pushing it he just calculates how tall shadow would be without the boots and hes 2'11". shadow yells at him to delete that from all his files immediately and tails is already tweeting about it and it turns into a fistfight

“I once said that science is neat. I don’t know if I believe that anymore. Because science is really messy. It can be used for greatness, for love, for humanity. And it can also be used to other, to murder, and to mutilate. We want science to be something outside of, higher than, ourselves, but it has always just been us. And so it is up to us what to do with science.

Dr. Lubelle has presented you with a vision of science that is colonizing, that is devoid of wonder, as barren as the Atacama Desert. And you have reacted against that with distrust and fear and anger. I understand that.

But I am presenting you with a different vision of science, and I hope you have seen that I have done so for my entire decade in your community. A science that is your neighbor, a science that seeks not to steal the stars, but to show them to you all the better.

So I am asking you, my community, to trust me. To trust that the best way to fight science used for ill is not superstition, or a retreat away from everything we have learned, or to distrust all science. Science is a tool, helpful and dangerous, but we will use it only for our fellow humans, with the benefit of the least of us always in mind. This is the only true way to face up to those who use this most beautiful of human inventions against humanity itself. I invite you to join me in doing so. ”
