social media has shown me some very diverse pissing on the poor style reading comprehension takes over the years but i don't think i've ever seen a straight up "fables carry no meaning because they are just stories, something that is famously known to mean nothing"

yeah we put your girl in the fandom and they villainized her beyond comprehension. yeah sorry they took out all the nuance and made the argument completely black and white. yeah my bad. we can’t reverse it. sorry.

We put your girl in the fandom and they still managed to make her posts about a popular male character. Sorry. Yeah, it was basically inevitable. I know. Yeah. Nothing we could’ve done. Sorry again

October is ADHD awareness month! 🎉

The memory issues ADHD causes are some of the scarier and more frustrating parts of living with it - so here’s a set of reaction doodles that all my fellow ADHD peeps are welcome to use whenever anybody decides to comment on your forgetfulness ^

"donate to gaza" "humanitarian aid to gaza" "raise money for gaza" and egypt, gaza's neighbor that has the only border through which aid can get through, cannot currently get aid through to gaza because israel is refusing to let the trucks pass. the gate was supposed to open three hours ago in a deal struck between egypt and the US to let foreign gaza nationals out and humanitarian aid in. now israel is denying it. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement: "There is currently no truce and humanitarian aid in Gaza in exchange for getting foreigners out." and this is after israel bombed the border crossing three times in the past week. this is the reality that's happening right now. the tonnes of aid that countries are donating, the money the EU is promising, all of this is NOT GETTING THROUGH TO GAZA. if egyptians cannot get through to gaza, nobody can!!!!! the only fucking way this happens is through international pressure to hold israel accountable and that is currently not happening!!!

this is genocide. israel is a fascist state with genocidal maniacs in charge, and they want gazans obliterated, they want gaza gone. this is genocide happening right in front of us. and the entire first world has sanctioned it.

haha anyway is it just me or should things like gruesome footage of people dying that are kept private at the request of the victims families not be considered as “lost media”

call me a hater but i feel like the lost media scene in recent years has become way way wayyy too detached from morality in the pursuit to locate every piece of media that’s not publicly obtainable that anything is fair game, regardless of if it even should be sought out? like maybe you shouldn’t put footage of school shootings on the same level of “guys we NEED to find this!!!”-ism as like an episode of a disney junior winnie the pooh show that aired once and then never again and no one caught it on demand. like hm

Oh my god you need to see this

He sounds so mad and sassy :'D

Also kinda proves my thought that he's not that good and patient with children as people like think

So there's actually an interesting take about this i saw a while ago (I wish I could find it again fjnfms) but a theory is that sun tends to act different when you wear the AR mask because he doesn't see Cassie as a child rather as a worker trying to fix things (and so do other animatronics maybe?? Mnot sure) ! So it's honestly fair if he's probably exhausted when someone doesn't do the job right XDD who knows how many staff members or staff bots he has to handle fucking up and making him lose his patience tbh

Wow I love this sksksk

Animatronics being annoyed and pissed of when stuff's not doing their job is something I never knew I need

Love this for him tbh this is why the headcanon that he kinda hates and fears parts and service feels so valid because he seems so out of patience for all the incompetence that goes on at the pizzaplex deep down like under a thin veil of trying to be diplomatic and appease everyone with lollipops is just the most frustrated ball of nerves imaginable

Honestly frazzled caretaker Sun is a gem too, let him steadily slip from being all kid friendly to “whY aREn’t You LIStenING” as a treat

One time this man approached me in a bar talking in Spanish. So I assumed he was Spanish and we started speaking, we had a whole ass conversation and at some point he was like. So what part of Spain are you from? And I said well I'm Italian actually. What part of Spain are you from? And he was like. I'm Greek.

One time I was in Argentina and I was so tired of trying to speak Spanish because I'm not very good at it lmao so I broke into exasperated English and the retail seller girl quickly understood me and engaged me in conversation. We talked for a while, she introduced me to a makeup brand, and then I decided to buy it. While she was packaging the purchase, she asked me if I were from the US or perhaps the UK and I just said "oh no I'm Brazilian hahah" and she looked me straight in the eyes and said, in clear Portuguese, "I'm Brazilian too"

Some things to note when you're discussing Palestine and Israeli apartheid in the coming days/weeks/months (not a complete list but will update as I have the emotional energy):

  1. Do not refer to what is happening in Palestine as a "conflict" or "war." These words imply a balance of power that does not exist. Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have no military, no control of their borders, no control over their access to resources like electricity, water, and medical supplies, no freedom of movement, and, most importantly, they do not have the most powerful government in the world funding them.
  2. Israel is an apartheid state. Refer to it as such. It is based in a settler colonialist system that actively recruits and funds people from the Jewish diaspora to move into homes on stolen Palestinian land. Since the formation of the state of Israel in 1948, 42% of the West Bank has been illegally settled while 86% of East Jerusalem has been stolen for settler use. Under international law, the expansion of these settlements is illegal. Israel has faced zero repercussions for their actions. Hold them accountable in your speech.
  3. Do not refer to the Israeli army as the "IDF" (Israeli Defense Force). Palestinians refer to them as the "IOF" for a reason--Israel does not need to defend themselves from civilians who have no military. From 2008 to September 2023, over 3,800 Palestinian civilians were killed by the IOF. There is no need for oppressors to defend themselves--they are the ones on the offense at all times by the nature of their positions of power.
  4. Remember that decolonization will not be a peaceful process. Do not condemn a group of people who have been brutally colonized, ethnically cleansed, and displaced from their homes for 75 years for fighting back against those oppressing them. This post concisely explains why the violence necessary for decolonization will never match that of the violence necessary for the sustained process of colonization. You cannot break free of a violent system with nonviolence. When Palestinians attempted peaceful protest in 2018 on the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, they along with clearly marked journalists, doctors, and medics were shot and killed for their actions. Oppressors will maintain their power status by any means necessary; the ongoing genocide of Palestinians is proof of that. Decolonization requires violence because colonization itself is an inherently violent system.
  5. Zionism does not equate to Judaism. Do not let Zionist propaganda fool you into believing that condemning the Israeli government is in any way anti-Semitic. The Israeli government does not represent the views of all Jews, even those who are Israeli citizens. Governments should always, always be criticized and held to account for their actions. Israel is no exception to this rule. Anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism. Anyone who tells you otherwise is weaponizing true Jewish oppression and suffering as a means to gain support for a violent, racist, apartheid government.

Something I’d like to add to the 5th point: Zionism is not Judaism is something to keep in mind at all times. Do not fall into anti-Semitic traps yourself by blaming all Jews for what the Israeli government is doing to Palestinians. As I said above, the Israeli government does not represent the views of all Jews, even those who are Israeli citizens. Unfortunately there will be anti-Semitic rhetoric from people who believe they’re defending Palestine; it’s our job to shut that shit down. Do not let anyone get away with anti-Semitism in any context. Remind them that, once again, Judaism does not equate to Zionism. There are many Zionists/Zionist sympathizers who are not Jewish themselves (e.g. some Evangelical and Baptist Christians). Jews are not oppressing Palestinians; the Israeli government and Zionists are. Let’s be mindful of the language we are using and the language others use in these conversations.

There. The last one.

I don't give a fuck about "cringe." I truly don't. I give a massive fuck about the algorithimification of art.

A sing-song audio of "everything is content" being used to encourage creators to record their entire life into tiny videos day after day just for the privilege of being seen.

People referring to "feeding the algorithm" on sites that do not even function on algorithms.

Jump on this trending sound!

"X meets Y" descriptors going from a "don't use this in your elevator pitch" to "literally it's the only way anyone is gonna pick up your book."

Training up-and-coming authors to describe their book by tropes and aesthetics that are, golly, awfully easy to feed into ChatGPT.

It's the "Tok" of "BookTok" that is worrying. Not the types of books being read. Not the "cringe" (whatever that means for you). Not the people making the videos. I am a huge proponent of talking about books you love early and often. But the nature and landscape of TikTok - the things it pushes to the top - the way it encourages long-time users to think - looks and smells awfully similar to machine learning optimization.

To the point that reviews and recommendations sound more and more like prompts. To the point that we become more and more comfortable with viewing the worth of things based on what is shown to us, when, and how often.

Considering entertainment monopolies have a history of skewing numbers to send people where they want them to go, I'm just not a fan of priming the industry I love (both as a writer and a reader) to lead me around by the nose like that of my own volition.

Because what your FYP shows you is so easy to tamper with. What trends is so easy to game. Leaning into the fact that trending is a signifier of worth is just shooting ourselves, both as readers and as writers, in the foot.

I'm not a psychology researcher, but my guess would be that the nature of it being a time-limited puzzle game where you have to juggle multiple factors means that your short-term memory gets filled and the traumatic images are "dumped" in favor of remembering how many times to rotate the L piece. "As soon as possible" is probably because the sooner you do it, the less likely it is to become part of your long-term memory.

If that is true, then other time-limited activities where you have to remember and plan in a tight time frame may serve a similar purpose.
