just saw someone advocating for ppl going off their meds so they aren’t reliant on “big pharma” and I’m like. what disease do you have that spontaneously treats itself the moment you feel morally superior to others? I’m dying to know

disabled people relying on a medical system that’s inherently unethical and capitalist and cruel is not an active choice we make by taking each breath

other disabled people deserve to live and they deserve the meds they need to be comfortable and alive, even if those meds patents are currently owned by monstrous billionaires

it's also the fact that so many different communities with wildly differing userbases have come together for this that's wild to me. like you have r/gaming fighting side by side with r/legaladvice and r/furry 😭

And that's not counting the ones that are still up, but nobody except mods can interact with them

The way I've already seen uncountable "Netflix is hiring!" Ads. They're really just gonna hire scabs and pretend the WGA strike isn't happening....

This is a reminder to anyone who wants to go into screenwriting. This is not an opportunity to get your foot in the door. Do not take any writing jobs during the strike. This includes freelance or “script editing” jobs.

You will be a scab. Scabs are barred from union membership. By crossing the picket line to get your foot in the door you’ll be burning one of the most important bridges in your life. You will actively be harming your future job prospects.

This strike will end one day. Those writers who are out picketing will reenter the writers room and start producing work with the legal and financial protections and guarantees they’re fighting for, and you will not be among their ranks. You will be a scab. A traitor.

A lack of union membership will harm your prospects job wise. Do not scab. Knowledge of your scabbing, traitorous ways will cost you your ability to make friends in the industry. Do not scab. Support the WGA as they fight for your rights. Do. Not. Scab.

funniest thing about the “reddit migration” is that I haven’t seen a single post shitting on anyone coming from Reddit. when twitter started bleeding users everyone was firing rent-lowering posts but with redditors skittering about we’ve left the doors open and put out food bowls

Tags were too good to ignore.

So someone pointed out to me recently that in a few years, maybe a few decades, the history of the us during covid is probably going to get twisted. The fact that we all had to make and wear cloth masks is going to be hailed as a symbol of how we “"came together as a nation”“” or whatever the fuck propaganda spin they try to put on it.

So I just want to say, for the record, the time of the corona virus pandemic was not a time when america came together.

This was a time when people hoarded toilet paper and sanitizing supplies either for themselves or to sell at absurd prices to the desperate people who didn’t get to the store soon enough during the shortages

This was a time when scared parents were sending their kids to finish school in the spring in plastic trash bags because they couldn’t think of any other way to possibly keep their families safe

This was a time when grocery store and retail and service workers were forced to keep working whether they wanted to risk their health or not because they couldn’t make rent otherwise and the people with enough privilege to have remote jobs tried to repay them with applause instead of fair wages

This was a time when nurses had the hold the hands of multiple dying people every day as their families watched their loved ones die over a video call because the hospital couldn’t risk having visitors

This was a time when city governments had to handle so many eviction hearings that they rented out convention centers and called in the national guard instead of doing a rent freeze to stop predatory landlords

This was a time when racism and police brutality were so unbearably horrible that people protested in the streets for months even though there was a god damn pandemic that our federal government wasn’t doing shit to stop and the cops were so mad that they were being asked to stop beating up black people that they were beating up everyone

This was a time when schools being forced to reopen in the fall or lose their federal funding had to draft templates for letters if a teacher or a staff person or a fucking child died from exposure to corona at school

This was a time when the president of the United states demanded that the cdc stop releasing data about all the people who were dying because of the warnings he ignored for months were making him look bad

This was a time when some state governments didn’t mandate masks and forced businesses to reopen because they didn’t want to pay unemployment to people trying to stay safe at home anymore

This was a time when Jeff Bezos was on track to be a fucking trillionare because everyone was ordering things on amazon instead of going to the store and the people he worked to death to get it didn’t see a single cent of it

This was a time when instead of providing homeless people with housing, we painted boxes on the ground to show homeless people how far away the had to be on the street to maintain social distancing

We did not come together to make cloth masks. Cloth masks represent nothing less than the absolute and utter failure of a nation’s government to inform and protect its citizens

This was not a time when we came together. This was a time when we survived, and not all of us made it.

This was a time when people casually talked about how many human lives the economy was worth without considering the evil that had just come out of their mouths.

This was a time when thousands of us died for profit and the ego of a cheating narcissists con man who scammed his way into the white house

This was a time that we survived. Most of us tried to do the right thing, stay home, limit trips to the store and socializing, wear a mask. And still, so many of us were lost. Thousands every day.

But that wasn’t a good enough reason for some people, for those among us who were too selfish to recognize the responsibilities we have toward one another as human beings.

This was not a time that we came together

This was a time that we survived

Not all of us made it

And those of us who did survive will never forget the evil we saw daily in our politicians and those around us

i always mean it when i say i love you btw

‘but thats a stranger you dont know’ and i love them. i love that they exist and i love that they passed through my life. and i love u too btw

reblog to tell your mutuals you love them for existing

I didn't see the supposed ''leak'' yet nor I want to tbh, but if it was Amazon who posted it... is it *really* a leak?? Doesn't it count more as a teaser? Yes, it might be spoilery but if an official source posted it intentionally then that's a teaser, right? I get wanting to avoid spoilers but Idk, I'm seeing some people's responses demonizing the fans who shared the ''leak'' and like, idk, to me is quite understandable that some fans would share a video that Amazon itself posted officially on social media. People get excited when they see new content, especially when it comes from an official source, you know? I don't thinks those fans were ill-intended. Maybe I'm not understanding the situation correctly but it all seems a little exaggerated

Hiya. This is how I see it: No, it was a leak. Neil and others spent years to make a brilliant season and kept surprises hidden so we can experience it when seeing. There is a strike going on for Writers Guiild of America, that means that Neil can't communicate with studios like Amazon. Before the strike everything was agreed upon by Neil what and how it will be revealed, he wrote things for promos and so. But someone at Amazon decided to reveal something that was not agreed upon to be revealed. It is a big thing and they put the big spoiler scene in a video collection of many series scenes, someone made a mistake. It was taken down but it spread. Neil is both heartbroken and fucking furious. He certainly doesn't blame the fans who shared it because they were excited but now wishes us not to spread further so people are not spoiled. It happened. Some of us know now, but there is no reason why we can't contain the leak as best as we can so people who doesn't know and doesn't want to know don't get spoiled, so they won't be afraid for next 45 days to go on the internet and will feel comfortable in the fandom. ❤

this is absolutely fucking pathetic now every single fucking streaming service is gonna start doing this shit. all y'all had to do was not watch Netflix and let it flop for a few months and they would have given up

Y'all still actually watch netflix?

i know it's easier to see a headline and get angry about it online than it is to look into the source, but if we all did a little digging, it's evident that this is misinformation. the source is a blog post from a tech startup that is advertising their data analysis services to other streaming companies. the spike in subscribers (which lasted for two days) occurred over a four day period, of which, only the 26th and 27th of may had above average signups, the previous two days were under 50k signups per day.

what their data (purposely) fails to show is the sharp decline in signups between the 27th of may and the first of june, the day that these features rolled out, because their chart cuts off before the password sharing crackdown even went into effect. their data also does not count the number of cancelled subscriptions, and does not distinguish between free trial sign ups and paid subscription sign ups.

they are trying to make netflix look good to advertise their services. this is marketing, not actual data analysis.

Themberchaud is free . . .

Honestly, this shit with Hogwarts Legacy is just like what happened with Chick-fil-A like ten or fifteen years ago. Some of y'all might be too young to remember it, but it went almost exactly like this shit today, only the target was technically gay people (not like we aren't all lumped together when push comes to shove, but gay was the political scapegoat in US politics at the time, as trans people were still on the fringes of social awareness).

It came out that the people who own Chick-fil-A were donating to organizations in other countries that were actively working to get gay people there killed, and were also very monetarily invested in stripping gay people of any legal rights they'd amassed in the US. So a lot of queer folks were asking for allies to boycott Chick-fil-A to show solidarity.

And it turned into a giant fuckin circus for bigots to rally around. There was even a support Chick-fil-A day, I remember it because I was a server at the time and our restaurant was empty most the day - while the line for Chick-fil-A down the road was like a mile long consistently.

But while that was obviously annoying, that wasn't what hit people the hardest. Cuz we expect clowns to wear the shoes, right, it's not shocking.

What disappointed people, or really demoralized a lot of young queers at the time especially, was the allies who would still go there. Because they like the sandwiches or fries or whatever. The people who'd march with them in the parade or be supportive of marriage equality, who would then turn right around and give their money to people who were trying to actively harm their friends.

Because the chicken was good.

I remember a friend of mine being really just absolutely broken up over that, trying to understand some of her friends reasoning and at the time I couldn't give her an answer. I could now, though.

And it's this:

Talk is cheap.

It costs nothing to say things. A person can say whatever the hell they want, any feel good flowery thing, and it doesn't really cost them.

But when they are asked to actually give something up - or put their money where their mouth is and just....can't do it. Well then there isn't much else for them to say, is there? At least nothing that's worth anything.

Some people had to find out the hard way that the choice between a chicken sandwich and funding people who did not believe in their dignity as a human being was, in the eyes of certain allies, apparently really hard. Too hard, in fact.

These allies would march in the colorful parades and go to the bars for drinks, but in the end, you couldn't actually depend on them to inconvenience themselves. They were fair weather allies, and they were there for the party and that's about it . They wanted entertainment, and it didn't matter if that came from having fun gay friends or a tasty sandwich.

This is the same thing, really, or pretty close to it.

These types of people just wanna have fun. Either you, their friend or whatever, are fun or the game is fun, and if you stop being fun by incidentally making them feel a little guilty about where they spend their money , then they might just choose the thing that doesn't make them currently uncomfortable.

And I'm not saying these people who say trans rights online but who also really, really want to play wizard game and already have are horrible people or anything - they're just not very good. They have no real character. And unfortunately there's not much you can do to change that, other than investing time and energy in people who do.

it’s unsurprising but continuously disappointing how many people will pick something pleasant and fun over solidarity with you, then get defensive and unhappy when you make it clear to them that because they picked something besides you, they lost you.

‘are you really ending our friendship over--’ you ended it! that’s the price! you picked doing something i said would hurt me and people like me and you did it anyway and you liked it and i watched you do it right in front of me. how little do you think of me and what i deserve, that you expected me to forgive you?

if you chose what’s easy over what’s right, you lose the friends you have wronged. that’s how it works. that’s what the consequences of your choice are.

the "I just think Weyoun is a silly little guy" to "NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. THEY'RE DESIGNED TO BE APPEALING TO OTHERS BUT UNABLE TO PERCEIVE BEAUTY THEMSELVES. THEY WERE THE FIRST SPECIES TO SHOW KINDNESS TO THE EARLY CHANGELINGS INSTEAD OF ATTACKING THEM AND THAT KINDNESS HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN RECIPROCATED. THEY HAVE SO MUCH FAITH AND DEVOTION AND YET THEIR GODS WILL ONLY EVER SEE THEM AS DISPOSABLE PARTS. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THE VORTA WHY IS NO ONE LISTENING TO ME" pipeline

“The average US president has been charged with 1.54 felonies” factoid isn’t true. The average US President has been charged with 0 felonies. Donald trump, who has been charged with 71, is a statistical outlier and should not have been counted
