   It seems that alot of attackers use some tactic to get away with violence. Not many people know how to take care of themselves when faced with such a situation. Everyone should read this especially each n every girl in this world. THOUGHT THIS WAS GOOD INFO TO PASS ALONG… FYI - Through a rapist’s eyes! A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: 1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets. 2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing. 3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered. 4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots. 5] Number two is office parking lots/garages. 6] Number three is public restrooms. 7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught. 8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming. 9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. 10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it. ———————————————————————————————————————————- POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER: 1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

  2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would  not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. 3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent. 4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh - HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts. 5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there. 6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly. 7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble. ——————————————————————————————————————————- FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL …. I know you are smart enough to know these pointers but there will be some, where you will go “hmm I must remember that” After reading forward it to someone you care about, never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in. 1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it. 2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! 3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives. 4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping,eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side,put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.  

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) . b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)  

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot). 7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN! 8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.   

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

Reminder for those who don’t know, if you have a vagina, make sure to urinate immediately after you have P-in-V sex.  Bacteria can get in your urethra during P-in-V intercourse so as soon as you are done having sex, go to the bathroom to pee, even if it doesn’t feel like you need to, because even a little pee can flush out the bacteria and prevent a UTI.  I didn’t know about this and I got a UTI from my first time, and it was super awful and uncomfortable and unfortunately even those with good sex education rarely learn info like this.  I want everyone with a vagina to know how to prevent it because UTIs suck hard.  That is all.

Sex ed in this country is utterly worthless, always reblog. Never known when it might be seen with new eyes. Also, penis units should share with their vagina units if they don’t do this.

This is super important, I’ve gotten a UTI a couple of times before and it’s quite literally one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had to go through (I even went to the ER) so please please pee after sex!!! 😭

So our dearest darling mageflower - expert on all things birbs and Betty Ross - is in a position where she’s going to be homeless.

 She’s going to either live with me and my family or else the love of her life, vanessasketch (it’s a bit up in the air right now but I’m given to understand we’ll know soon).

But since Mage lives in Florida, I live in Michigan, and vanessasketch lives in New Yoirk, Mage needs a plane ticket!

Neither I nor vanessasketch have a whole lot of money and this was all very sudden, so there’s not time for Mage to get the money for a plane ticket.

Either way, Mage is one of my best friends (and Dragon Age is her fault entirely) and I love her to itty bitty pieces.

Should it come to pass that she comes to live with us, a HUGE weight would be taken off my shoulders because a burden shared is a burden halved and all that and y’all know what’s been going on with ME.

If she’s able to live with vanessasketch, who are YOU to stand in the way of True Love?  (Seriously, they’re adorable.)

BETTER YET!  Both states (Michigan and New York) have significantly better social programs and stuff than Florida does!  How awesome is that?  It’d be a huge help.

Hey my little 13 year old cousin is missing and I’m really worried. She was last seen just after midnight Tuesday morning in her home on Madison Street in Portsmouth, VA. Then she stormed out after having an argument with her brother and we haven’t seen her since. She is a black female with brown eyes and black hair (that’s her in the pics). She’s about 4-foot-4 and 105 pounds, and was last seen wearing a hot pink t-shirt, blue pants and black shoes.

If they’re talking about the change of skin color, there’s an explanation for that.

It’s not a literal change of skin color. If you go even to the bible, or check out the footnotes, the darkening of skin is an idiom. What it means is a darkening of countenance; Lamanites had dark spirits, not skin. In one of the war chapters in the BoM, some Nephites infiltrated a Lamanite camp. If the Lamanites had a different skin color, how would they have gone undetected?

For further reading…. Ugh I forget the name of the site but I went to a NorthStar fireside about it, it’s this organization called Blacks and the Gospel or something like that. This dude has done a ton of research. The fireside really strengthened my testimony.

Another thing, literally everyone in the BoM had dark skin. Right? Just like Jesus.

Exactly. If they were middle eastern/Native American, they had dark skin anyway. White they were not.

Though I will admit in the past people, including members and such, have used the BoM as an excuse for racism, which sucks, yeah, but they were also victims of their times and human. HUMAN. In the bible, prophets messed up all the time. King David. Jonah got swallowed by a whale/big fish for disobeying. Moses was slow of speech and didn’t want to speak in public so his brother was made his first counselor. Lehi murmured. Alma the younger was a tool bag at first. Alma the older was a priest of king Noah (okay so those two started off bad then went good so they don’t quite count, same goes for the apostle Paul). Peter denied Christ three times. Judas betrayed Christ despite being a freaking apostle chosen by him. J Golden Kimball swore all the time. Brigham Young was a shrewd businessman who took guff from nobody. Gordon B. (Is the man for me!) could be very short with people- being a prophet is stressful.

People are human. Even if they are apostles and prophets of God, they say and do stupid and downright hurtful things sometimes. Only Christ was perfect. Remember that the next time you make a mistake. You are painfully, beautifully human like the most devout followers of Christ.

This almost addresses an issue I’ve had for a while and yeah, it’s tremendous how helpful the footnotes can be. But some verses still seem to specifically refer to a literal darkening of skin as a curse. 2 Nephi 5:21 mentions a “cursing” and also says that “the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.” Alma 3:6-9, Jacob 3:5-9, and 3 Nephi 2:15 seem to support this.

In cases where there was a ‘spiritual darkening’ a footnote has been added suggesting to look up “Spiritual darkness” in the topical guide (whereas my examples above don’t), but also these don’t explicitly mention skin colour.

Here’s my thing. The literalism of the situation doesn’t matter because throughout the Book of Mormon it becomes clear that the curse of dark skin became kind of a moot point once you hit like King Benjamin era. Just like the scriptures point out with the people who marked themselves with a red dot on their forehead to know friend from foe, God literally was just like, “Yeah, these people have departed from the righteous traditions and in order to better preserve the better fruit, I’m going to literally separate them on a physical level.” Yes, the following scriptures when the Lamanites receive their curse specifies that they became an evil and loathe some people, but that was because they were physically different plus culturally wicked in response to the Nephites, so it follows for their to be a form of racism that would follow what God did. But God doesn’t give a shit what you look like–His whole point was to separate the wheat from the chaff for the wheat’s sake. And anyone who claims God is racist based on the Book of Mormon clearly has no understanding of who God is or why He does anything.

I guess… That sort of makes sense, then.

I do want to add a little bit of clarification now that I’m typing on a computer instead of my phone:

My belief is that instead of focusing on the apologetic side of things and how we can fit an ancient narrative within our own cultural understandings, the easiest way to understand the situation is to ponder why God would curse the Lamanites in the first place.

 Its all the same concept as when God told the Israelites to only marry within themselves–it was a simple way to keep the (admittedly temporary) purity of the Nephite culture strong. Additionally, recognizing that the Lamanites were teaching their posterity to basically kill Nephites on sight because Nephi “stole” the right to rule from Laman and Lemuel, we see God is not only protecting the Nephites on a cultural level from being lead astray by intermarrying with the Lamanites, but God was also protecting the Nephites on a physical level so they could identify those who would do them harm as well.

So if we recognize the purpose behind the curse on a super simple level, a physical change caused by God to protect the Nephites, the rest of the narrative starts to fall into place, especially if you add in other attributes of God that we know from biblical sources.

Specifically, Isaiah 55:8, “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, sayeth the Lord, for as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, then your thoughts and my thoughts,” 

As well as, 

1 Samuel 16:7, “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

With those specific attributes, we recognize that on a super basic level, God is obviously not racist–He doesn’t perform any miracle without it being the exact right thing at the exact right time for the exact right people. So if we place these attributes of God in the Book of Mormon narrative, recognize that we as a human species are incapable of being different on any level without being dicks to each other (i.e. racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.), and we are incapable of recognizing another person’s difference from us without comparing ourselves and deciding if we are better than that person–with all that information, the literalness of the Curse of Dark Skin with the Lamanites in the Book of Mormon becomes less about how “racist” God/Joseph Smith/the Prophet writing that particular chapter is, and more about recognizing an ad hominem-straw man tactic to create this false dichotomy that because the translation of an ancient history doesn’t completely appeal to our modern sensibilities, then clearly the original author (Nephi, Joseph Smith, God, etc.) is imperfect which means they can in no way be prophetic, righteous, or true messengers.

Here’s my take: God is, hopefully obviously, not racist. The “curse” is a result of Laman and Lemuel’s descendants intermarrying with the peoples they encounter when they reach the Americas (there’s a decent case for cultural merger within in the Book of Mormon narrative) and the difference in climate/lifestyle. Hebrew Nephi (whose culture was intensely segregated between Israelite and Canaanites) would not look too kindly on this situation and believes that the mixed race population that results is a “curse from God”. Nephi has both a personal and sociopolitical impetus to set up this kind of tribal narrative. Gradually, other cultural differences between the two societies become emphasized but this racism “helps” gets the rivalry rolling. This doesn’t cease in any way until the Sons of Mosiah reach out across cultural barriers.     

Meanwhile, during the most spiritually advanced period recorded in the Book of Mormon, nobody discriminates or segregates by race or any other factor. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
