??? why are “friends with benefits” now considered a cringe straight people thing???? friends can fuck. it’s literally fine

people on here are like “you CANNOT fuck someone unless you really love them and are in a long term romantic relationship with them!!!!!!! oh but sex workers are valid hehe”

someone on tiktok will be like “i’m not ready/looking for for a romantic relationship but i have a lot of stress so my friend and i consensually bone sometimes and it makes us both feel better” and someone on tumblr will post a screenshot of it and say “ewwww why can’t you just be normal??” while simultaneously claiming to be sex-positive

also aromantic people can have sexual relationships. that doesn’t make them “less pure” or whatever. who cares

I read the description and though “surely it’s not actually like that”

The contrast between the unbelievably extra voice acting and the extremely stiff and emotionless animation is what really makes this a masterpiece.

While the giant bill was fake, it represented a very real accomplishment. The group raised more than $17,000, which purchased more than $1.6 million in medical debt owed by Philadelphians, according to their nonprofit partner RIP Medical Debt.

This is a great way to undermine the system that we are trapped in

The fact that this can be done at all shows how utterly bullshit the entire system is. There was literally no reason for that medical debt to exist in the first place.

Let's say you owe a private hospital ten thousand dollars, but you have very few assets, so they're pretty sure they're never getting any of that back. There's ninety nine other people who also each owe the hospital ten thousand dollars. (It doesn't have to be a hospital; any debt can be sold this way.) The hospital has shit to do and the low chances of you paying them mean it's an unnecessary drain on their time and resources to hound you all for it. But they can get *some* money, by selling your debt to a third party.

Let's say the sell each ten thousand dollar debt for ten dollars (I'm making all these numbers up for simplicity). So a third party gives the hospital one thousand dollars, and now all hundred of you owe that third party ten thousand instead! You're in the clear with the hospital, you owe it to these guys now! And their job is to hound and harrass you for the money you owe. If one of you pays up more than a thousand dollars, you've covered their initial investment. These guys are gambling on the likelihood that enough of you can pay your debts that you make it worth the time they spend tracking you and harrassing you.

Or, instead of trying to get the money out of you, they can just... decide you don't owe them. Why not? They own the debt. They can fork out a thousand bucks, buy a million in debt, and forgive it. That's what these guys did. (This is also a favourite move of John Oliver; if you ever see headlines about John Oliver forgiving debt, this is what he's doing). A small payment can take a massive weight off the shoulders of a lot of struggling people.

Again, I made up the numbers to simplify the math. But this is how the process works.

seventeen thousand dollars to buy SIXTEEN MILLION DOLLARS OF DEBT. Absolutely FUCKED at how cheap our misery and servitude is.

thing is, the debt companies *hate* this, because it means that it gives hope to people saddled with unimaginable debt that someone will come along and buy that debt and cancel it. So more people don't pay their debts, and they lose money. Debt buying companies do their *damnedest* to keep people like these philadelphhians and john oliver from doing exactly this.

you can do this too! Follow OP's link to https://ripmedicaldebt.org/ and donate whatever you can. For every $1 you donate, they buy $100 of debt and cancel it. I donate $10 each month just to get that amazing email that says I've been personally responsible for cancelling $1000 of medical debt - it's genuinely the best $10 I spend each month 😊

No one else in the comments has pointed this out, so I will- the idea that "we have sti's because ~men~ can't stop fucking animals" (as stated at the very off) also feeds into radical feminist ideas about men being sex-obsessed creeps who will fuck animals if they can't fuck people. Taking this kind of misinformation at face value also gives legs to radical feminist ideas, which is another important reason to be wary of it.

i cant believe you guys. NOT EVEN ONCE

This is a major public health victory and the result of years of work. I know the in thing on tumblr is to kid around about people being uncool for not having sex or going to the club or whatever but those things don't give you lung cancer or a myriad of other health problems. Cigarettes are bad and the only reason you think they're cool is big tobacco poured astonishing amounts of money into marketing.

Tuesday's federal budget laid the groundwork for a national disability benefit but the funding falls well short of what advocates were seeking. The government passed legislation last year, Bill C-22, to introduce the national benefit, which is meant to lift people out of poverty by topping up provincial support funding. The budget has allocated $6.1 billion over six years toward the new disability benefit, with payments set to begin rolling out in July of next year. The maximum benefit for low-income Canadians with disabilities would be $200 per month, the budget says. But advocates say the budget commitment doesn't cover enough Canadians and won't lift those it does cover out of poverty. Rabia Khedr, national director of the advocacy group Disability Without Poverty, said she was "disappointed" for all those who have been waiting since C-22 passed in June. "I'm heartbroken for the people that were waiting with hope," she said. Khedr estimates that roughly 1.6 million Canadians with disabilities are living below the poverty line. But Tuesday's budget says only 600,000 would be eligible for the new national benefit.

200$/month does not begin to cover my out of pocket medical costs. The medical costs I incur due to my disability. And I am extremely lucky to have had help applying for the DTC, and having been approved. What actually are they expecting to impact here, beyond lip service and pr...

Heads up a bunch of people got shoved in busses and detained last night and are in jail being denied food water and medical care. The jail's number should be 512 854 9889 for the 10th Street location if you want to call to demand that they release or otherwise provide aid to those detained.

You know what people don’t talk about often enough? Playing catch up in life after spending your teens or early 20s suicidally depressed. There’s so many more layers than just being able to say “I don’t want to die anymore.”

  • The difficulty in academia or a career after spending years thinking you wouldn’t be alive long enough for any of it to matter.
  • The exhaustion that comes from self awareness and self soothing, with the constant voice in your head saying “don’t go backwards.”
  • How lonely it is to watch the people your age starting families when you’re just barely learning what stable relationships are, and the sudden societal pressure of being “up against a clock” for these kinds of things.
  • The judgement from others if you change your image or interests this late in the game just because you finally figured out who you really are under the demons.

Be kind to those who are developing and blooming after years of not planning on being here long. We are living a life we absolutely didn’t think we’d have, and it’s hard enough without society reminding us there’s expectations of our age.

We didn’t get to be young; we were too busy fighting battles few know.
