and like that’s always struck me as such meaningless bullshit, I’ve always hated those. They’ve never had that element that truly motivates me.

So, I took matters into my own hands and I made my own artsy motivational wallpapers. Enjoy.

Andrew Loomis Free Downloads

The internet is a wealth of information if you know where to look. Here are some free downloads by Andrew Loomis, a fine illustrator who made a series of books pertaining to illustration back in the… er 40s or 50s.

One of these that I still will reference is Creative Illustration. Which has a fine chapter on making unique and interesting compositions.

Books on Illustration and drawing techniques are not a replacement for actual life drawing. That is the only way to hone your own style. But they are great reference and a good way to get out of a drawing rut.

YO, this are a great resource, definitely grab these!!! We studied Loomis a lot in my classes!

I HIGHLY suggest checking out these books, especially if you’re a beginner artist. Andrew Loomis is one of the greatest illustrators ever and all his books are so informative and helpful! “Creative Illustration” is one of my personal favorites of his.

Things I didn’t know

“And–” she waved a pen as though to underline her statement–“if you’re interrupting a sentence with an action, you need to type two hyphens to make an en-dash.”

You guys have no idea how many students in my advanced fiction workshop didn’t know any of this when writing their stories.

Urrrgghhhhh I’ll figure this out one day

For those interested in what kind of refrence I use; I’m basically just google image-searching “anatomy reference” or “figure drawing” or “musculature” or something and work with whatever comes up, plus the ”atlas of human anatomy for the artist” by Stephen Rogers Peck for guiding theory. It’s quite handy and inexpensive, would definately recommend that one : D

I think the real problem here is that big media corporations seem to believe that social media userbases are fungible, and persist in acting on this belief no matter how many times it’s demonstrated to be wrong.

There’s a specific pattern of events that plays out over and over (and over) again, and it looks something like this:

1. Social media platform becomes popular

2. Social media platform is purchased by big media corporation in order to gain access to it large user base

3. Big media corporation realises that social media platform’s demographics are not the demographics they want to sell things to.

4. Big media corporation institutes measures to drive away “undesirable” users, apparently in the honest belief that the outgoing users will automatically be replaced by an equal number of new, more demographically desirable users

5. This does not, in fact, occur

6. Social media platform crashes and burns

You’d think that, by the sheer law of averages, at least one person who’s capable of learning from experience would become involved in this whole process at some point.

That person has been fired 

The media execs fail their math. Specifically, they fail the network theory.

They look at the numbers, like Tumblr’s where only 1% of the users make 99% of the explicit content, if I remember a recent study right. So, why don’t we lose that 1% and live happily ever after? - an exec says.

Because! The networks on social media are decentralized, and the 1% are the key nodes:

Those local nodes are load-bearing, like the cornerstones of a building. Remove them, and the network falls apart and dies.

Updates to Tumblr’s Community Guidelines

Today we announced some big updates to our Community Guidelines and what kind of content is permitted on Tumblr. Adult content will no longer be allowed here. While we do not judge anyone for their desire to post, engage with, or view this stuff, it is time for us to change our relationship with it.

We expect you may have some questions on how this will affect you, and we’re here to make sure those questions get answered.

When does the new policy take effect?

Our new Community Guidelines will go into effect on December 17, 2018.

Newly uploaded content flagged as adult will no longer be allowed on Tumblr. We’ll also begin flagging and removing existing adult content with the ultimate goal of removing as much of it as we can.

What is considered adult content?

Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.

What is still permitted?

Examples of exceptions that are still permitted are exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery. Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.

I’ve pretty much given up posting anything that’s not book covers to see which get flagged, and anything that makes fun of tumblr @staff and their stupid policy changes.

But since who knows what will happen next, I thought peeps would like a brief update. I do not have links for everything.

Cake with the King  is just the ebooked version of a teensy 1500 thingie I wrote for a tumblr prompt many moons ago. It’s one of the things likely to be eternally lost/deleted, oddly enough, in the mass exodus. So if there was anyone who enjoy it, here it be. Note it should be free, it is everywhere but Amazon, who continue to be annoying about not letting us just make them free without the stupid pricematch hassle/waiting game.

Runescribe is the expanded version of this ficbit. It’s now just shy of 10k, where it started at like 4k I think. It’s been uploaded everywhere, but is still processing. If you don’t want to wait, it’s on Smashwords and Payhip. Update: Amazon

Silverhands is a fairytale I wrote for Resilience: Puerto Rico. Definitely buy the anthology if you have time/money/inclination - they’re all wonderful stories and the proceeds go to a charity to help PR, who is still recovering from hurricane damage.

And of course most peeps know my silly old story Finder Tolan. I meant to write a ficbit about grown-up Goss, but wound up with a 20k story instead. Lord Seabolt  comes out in January. The books are not up/dated on the LT3 site yet but will be soon. If you bought the first version of Finder Tolan there, the files  will update. If you bought it elsewhere, as always, just contact me and I’ll send you the new version. It hasn’t changed much, but I did merge the two stories into one whole and spruced it up some. I have two more stories planned - one about Moonrise and Evil Overlord, and one about Kerra (you’ll meet him in Lord Seabolt). There will also be a paperback for FT and LS, I’m working on it this weekend.

Not pictured here: I am hoping to ebook Two Parts Mistletoe for peeps who’d like to have it as a solo ebook. Probably through LT3, since that’s where the original anthology that has it is.

I am currently working on a short story for Morrin from The Painted Crown. For those not familiar, or who don’t remember him offhand, he is a secondary character in that book, the brother of Istari. He is aromantic and in a poly relationship with four of his friends. The short story is them finding him a wife and him conceding, after Things Happen, that they might know what they’re talking about. There’s a sneak peak on my twitter.

I am currently actively working on Dance in the Storm, The Fallen King’s Penitent Soldier, an Infinitum Government story, and the third Anti-Heroes book. I am also working on commissioned stories, one about a dragon who makes automatons and falls in love with a human and a (spoiler), and the other the oft-mentioned fantasy mish-mash of Count of Monte Cristo and Romeo & Juliet.

I also hope to finally pick up poor Rene and Tara’s story again, and I’m sure other stuff will crop up along the way.

I think I’m forgetting something, but I’ll just add it when I update this post with links. Any questions, you know where to find me*
