The phrase “gentle reminder” might conjure up the image of old emails and texts from a passive-aggressive someone-or-another. That’s not this Tumblr. Gentle reminder: It reminds you, gently, to do nice things for yourself.
Living Stills (@livingstills)
Remember when people were calling beautiful, artsy GIFs “cinemagraphs” because they seemed to be too beautiful to be called GIFs? @livingstills is full of those GIFs—beautiful, calming GIFs from the outdoors. It’s the second best thing to actually being in nature.
Hey! You made it through the first week of Mental Health Month. Have you been following along with our weekly prompts? Last week was all about posting it for yourself. You’re the most important person in your life, you know? Gotta take care of yourself the best you can.
This week is about focusing on each other. Focus on being an encouraging and understanding friend, or part of a supportive community. Even just being there to listen or get leaned on can make a huge difference in someone’s life. There’s no wrong way to show kindness. Here are some other suggestions to bring this kind of supportive kindness to your Tumblr:
- Create a post with positive message for someone going through a tough time. Make a text post, a video post, use stickers, make a GIF—whatever feels right to you.
- Message someone a compliment. Maybe send them a sticker.
- This is the positivity cat. Message it to 17 of your friends to give them positive vibes all month long. 🌞
- Leave a nice reply on someone’s post.
- If you’re up for it, make a post that your ask box is open to anyone who needs to chat.
- You’re never alone on Tumblr. Turn your dashboard into a mental health community and follow these search tags: #postitforward, #self-care, and #positivity.
- Reblog and tag your friends on this post or mention them in the replies to remind them to drink water.
If you follow through, and we hope you do, make sure to tag your posts with #postitforward so other people can find your stuff.
We hope you have a good week, Tumblr. Don’t forget, we’re always here for you too. <3

Three! Weeks! In!
Welcome to the third week of our Mental Health Month prompts. We just finished up a week of posting it for each other. This week? We’re posting it for reflection. We want to give you the opportunity to look back on your personal experiences with mental health: the struggles you have overcome, or something you’re dealing with right now. We’re all a work in progress, and that’s okay. You can follow through however you please, including using some of our prompts below. Just don’t forget to tag it with #postitforward so other people can easily find it:
- Make a post sharing your personal experiences with mental health. It can be a GIF, a text post, a video—whatever feels right to you.
- Share a list of things you know now that you wish you knew then.
- Here’s a thank you card. Reblog to thank yourself for being so strong, or reblog and tag someone who might have helped you through something.
- Post a quote that helps you get through tough times.
- Create a chat post conversation between you and your younger self.
- Make a video talking about something you overcame.
- Share a song that’s important to you, and tell your followers why.
We can’t wait to see these posts start rolling through our dashboards.
A small text addendum: We have some special Answer Times coming up that are centered around Mental Health Month. On the docket this week:
- 5/15—Cynthia Germanotta, Lady Gaga’s mother and co-founder of Born This Way Foundation.
- 5/16—Shannon Beveridge (@now-this-is-living), 25-year-old YouTube star. She’ll be partnering with It Gets Better (@itgetsbetterproject).
Day of Action: NAMI
Hey Tumblr, in honor of Mental Health Month and Post it Forward (@postitforward), we’re declaring today as a Day of Action to support NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (@namiorg), because we believe that everyone is entitled to mental health care and support.
What’s NAMI?
NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the US. On behalf of the millions of people who are affected by mental illness every day, NAMI is dedicated to increasing awareness and resources for mental health conditions, combating the social stigma that surrounds mental illness, and advocating for better and equal health care for anyone seeking mental health treatment.
How can I support?
For Tumblr’s Day of Action, we’re encouraging the community to take the NAMI StigmaFree Pledge. By signing the pledge, you’re showing that you wish to fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness and demonstrating your support for all who are affected.
And, if you have the means, you can donate $5 or more to Tumblr’s Crowdrise fundraiser to support NAMI and help build a national network of accessible mental health support and resources for all.
While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime, we’re all likely impacted by mental illness—by friends, family members, or people in our community. Together, we can encourage acceptance, understanding, and support for mental health, and ensure that no one is alone on their mental health journey.

This is Kylie Jean ❤️ Kylie was born with a pretty common heart defect. We were assured that most children grow out of it by the time they are 2 and those ones that don’t, usually always grow out of it by the time they are 4. Unfortunately, the valves pumping blood to Kylie’s heart have not grown in they ways we have hoped and now almost 5 and a half, we start our journey to find the best solution for Kylie and will see just what her diagnosis is for the future.
We are able to double insure Kylie due to the protections pre-existing conditions have under the ACA. Without insurance, a heart surgery will bankrupt not only my husband and I but her father and step-mother as well. There is no reason why 4 hard working people should be forced to loose their homes in order to save their child. We would gladly give our home to save her life, but it’s pretty awful when you have to choose to be homeless to save your child in this country.
Mamas 4 Health Care (@mamas4healthcare) is a Tumblr advocating for fair and affordable health care that neither penalizes nor excludes anyone who has a pre-existing condition.
They’re currently accepting submissions from Tumblr users who have children or family members with health care needs that would be threatened if the AHCA becomes the law. If you’d like to share your story, you can submit it right here.
Health care is a human right, and everyone is more than a pre-existing condition.
