“I, Melody Margaret Grant, do solemnly swear, that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States.” “I, Claire Hale Underwood, do solemnly swear, that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States.”
As much as I love Hillary Clinton, Mellie Grant, Claire Underwood, and the idea of President Michelle Obama, I am not a fan of this “for a woman to be president her husband has to do it first” pattern.
Scandal 6x12 “Mercy” Season 6 Episode 12 Sneak Peek - Rowan (Joe Morton) appreciates Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) hospitality but he is not happy about Fitz and Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) relationship. The disdain on his face when Fitz kisses Olivia in front of him makes his disapproval clear. He commands respect from Fitz telling him to call him ‘Mr. Pope’ instead of Rowan.
Hello world. For the past 29 hours I have been glued to my tv, rewatching this scandal episode that I feel I have memorized verbatim but every time I watch it I see something new or different that I didn’t pick up on from the last rewatch. But my heart is open and filled with love as Shonda dedicated this episode to our star crossed lover, Olivia and Fitz.
Me coming out of my room after remaining in seclusion. I feel lightheaded.
This episode was fundamental to the core of Scandal and what the story has always been, the evolution of Olivia Pope and her quest for life. This alternate reality did not disappoint me but left me optimistic and thoroughly sedated. For so long we have watched Olivia fall from grace that at times it appears as though we are looking at a stranger, but we are seeing a change, a slight turn on her axis. Bless you Shonda, for this episode. I never doubted the story or the quest to live a open, honest life.
Now. Let us say our Pledge of the Allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to United States of Olitz and to the republic for which is stands. One nation under Shonda indivisible with jam and love for all. Amen
We start the episode off with Olivia, Fitz and Jake in the oval. Fitz is trying to come up with a plan to free Cyrus but Jake is currently attempting to thwart his plan considering it’s something they all want, Mellie to be President. But is that necessarily true though considering Abby told Jake in 602 that she knows he doesn’t want Mellie to win. *hint hint* besides who actually wants to win an election that way and Fitz knows that they want Mellie in the White House for a reason otherwise why kill Vargas. Real Bitch and Penis did not stoop to those lengths just to support their fellow white lady. Nothing about this is right, hence Fitz wearing the light shirt and appeasing to Olivia’s former self about doing the right thing whereas we have Stevie Wonder appeasing to Olivia’s current side hence the dark shirt. A very obvious play of both good and evil, light and dark and of course the love triangle. Stuck between the two men she’s been entangled with for a few years; and her lack substance in her gut Olivia is torn as if doing the right thing will be all that right. Olivia begins to side with Fitz but the second she does Jake attempts to bring them both down about ‘something he knew 3 hours ago’
Hoe, how did yo Stevie Wonder ass tell time? Anyways ..ugh Jake brings up Defiance being a good thing and completely ignores Olivia’s obvious discomfort and pain regarding that ordeal that took place 8 years ago. Fitz looks to Olivia for back up but she rebuffs and begins to talk about Huck dying and how many more people have to get hurt, but Fitz isn’t agreeing with Olivia or Jake regarding them doing nothing and before he leaves he tells Olivia and Jake that he needs to know whether they are 'in or out’.
With Fitz out of the office, Jake turns to Olivia and ignores her pain but begins to talk about how life would have been much worse for Fitz had Olivia not the rigged election all the while Olivia’s head is bowed in evident sorrow for all the pain she has caused to Fitz and herself. But before Jake walks out he reminds Olivia that her life would have also been worse too had she not rigged election. Cue the dream
But as Olivia flashbacks to the past, most of her prolific memories are shaped around Fitz. We see the most memorable moments for Olivia, good and bad.
Back on the plane with the original illuminati…I feel nostalgic at the sight of Hollis and that old hag Verna. Ugh. My heart’s feeling all warm and fuzzy. But as we all know in real life Olivia said ’ yes’ but in the alternate reality she says:
‘No. We are not fixing the election. Fitz can win. He can do this. He can turn this around. And when asked about them losing Olivia says 'At least we lose with our souls intact.’
Wow. Olivia believes in Fitz that he can win. But we know how this story ends and it ends with Fitz losing and Olivia being ashamed and heartbroken that she could have won this for Fitz and she chose to let him fall. Mellie makes sure to rub it in Olivia’s face about all she had to say was ’yes’ and so ironic how Olivia has used that same word when she declared her love for Fitz. But anyways, Olivia is feeling the pain and you can see her clearly wondering if she made the right decision at all. Now we know Olivia enjoys carrying the weight and burden but this wasn’t her fault especially not in this world. But. It Hurts nonetheless .
Olivia is trying to escape and act as if she doesn’t hear Fitz calling her name, but she stops and tells Fitz she wrote him a letter saying she’s sorry for not winning the presidency for him. A letter, Olivia . Really? I understand you are hurt and you would rather do what you have always done, which is run. But don’t you think Fitz is deserving of a goodbye or an answer even one as painful as the truth? But Fitz tells Olivia that she didn’t let him down, and while America didn’t chose him, she can.
Excuse me for a minute.
Okay. I’m back. But barely breathing. Olivia being Olivia bypasses Fitz’s request and tells him that she is going to Washington to help Marcus Walker get a criminal justice bill passed. Puppy eyes and lips quivers couldn’t begin to describe the yearning those two people feel every time they have to part. Fitz wishes Olivia good luck and Olivia wishes Fitz good luck with Mellie. Olivia leaves Fitz dejected and broken hearted . My eyes hurt from the light of their love, and my heart breaks for the star crossed lovers, and my thirst is finally being quenched after such a long olitz drought that I am edematous.
Two months later after breaking up with Fitz, Olivia appears to be trying to fix herself by doing what she does best, staying busy working. Abby, Marcus and even Hobo Huck are all at Olivia’s workshop. It’s old, ugly and so very unlike our Olivia yet you can see the joy that she has with owning something that belongs to her and she’s not some boujee D.C. Girl like she is today. She’s humble and appreciative of the hardwork they have put in to create this. Beautiful. That’s pretty refreshing but I will tell you what’s not and that is Olivia dating Leo. Yup I threw up in my mouth at the idea of them….but another parallel to help dig the knife even deeper into olakers heart is the fact that our Olivia did this exact same thing with Jake after Fitz found out about defiance. She went on a date and shared a bit here and there but deep down it doesn’t erase Fitz, in reality or alternate reality, Olivia can’t escape the inevitable that is Fitzgerald Grant. Wherever she goes, he is always with her.
The only difference about Olivia’s date with Jake and her would be date with Leo is that Fitz showed up for her and stopped her from making a mistake. So you see olakers it wasn’t necessarily Jake that was special it could have been ANYBODY even Leo! And before I hand olakers the final dagger, let me say that Olivia created this alternate world, and not once did she dream of Jake being in it. Olivia wishes she never met Jake, she wishes Fitz would have came to her and stopped her date like he did with Leo.
Freshly defeated, Fitz shows up at Olivia’s apartment ready to ask for her hand in marriage. Unlike our scandal time we’re we see these two people both yearning to be with one another but because of time and circumstance they are always parted. Not in this world. Fitz isn’t going to wait to be with Olivia, he’s ready to be out in the open with her. Fitz showed up for Olivia even in her dream, he came back for her and stood on her doorstep telling her that he’s just a ex presidential candidate asking his campaign manager to love him, and do him the honor of becoming his wife because he’s so desperately in love with her and if she ’loves me half as much as I love you then it was worth the trip’
As Fitz professes his love for Olivia, softly in the background their song plays. 'Will You Still love me’ the same song played when Olivia was arrested for releasing Rowan and we watched Olivia silently beg Fitz to still love her in spite of her short comings.
There is a reason why that song was played. Olivia was at her worse at the time and yet she still desperately wanted Fitz to see her and love her even though she was unable to love herself at the moment. Fitz’s is requesting the same of Olivia except much different circumstances. But the message is evident and by the shutting of Olivia’s elevator door just as Fitz had shut the door on them. But in this world, they don’t give up. They Fight. Olivia quickly opens the door and said ‘yes’ faintly with such overwhelming love pouring through her. The proposal is everything and more but again the one word Mellie said earlier comes back, all Olivia has to do is say ’yes’. Something she has failed to do often in her current life, and not to mention Shonda’s subtle mention of her own book. Yes.
I cannot begin to describe the joy still festering in my heart at the sight of Olivia following her heart instead of listening to her head, the unsurmountable joy radiating from her. Seldom does Olivia make such drastic choices without thinking it over but this time she went full force something she was unable to do in the real world out of fear.
The parallels are uncanny Mellie told Olivia in the beginning she just had to say 'one word’ and like in our realm of scandal when Olivia said ’yes’ to being Fitz’s mistress and effectively ending Fitz’s and Mellie’s marriage. Olivia done did it again, by saying yes to Fitz’s proposal. And we see Mellie lurking in the shadows at their wedding but she’s clearly over Fitz and not jealous of Olivia. I’m sorry my pettiness is flaring up. But Olivia stays ruining Mellie’s life by getting her own life. You go girl with yo natural hair and backpack wearing self.
Now, back to Olivia and Fitz screwing the world so they could make their own.
Me watching olitz get it on. The whimpers. The moans. The eye contact.
Reunited and it feels so good. Ladies and Gentleman Fitz and Olivia are floating in space. Olivia done magically grabbed them keys from her purse and opened the door and left everything else behind. Olivia literally left her baggage behind but does that actually mean she left it behind? Yes and no. More on that later
Can I just say that I love that Olivia dreamt of all this. She dreamt of Fitz showing up and being her beacon of light and good. While Olivia has Huck, it doesn’t replace the hearts hunger for love and affection that can’t be suppressed. When the heart speaks it speaks. The attention to detail is a thing of beauty, Shonda truly out did herself with this episode, perfectly layering Olivia and Fitz’s relationship, once again reminding the audience and Olivia and Fitz that their love is real. For so long we have seen Olivia yearning but never actually tasting the sweetness that life could bring, the joy she will find in being ordinary, the fulfillment of reaching her goals without losing herself and the one she loves. This is the tender epilogue that these two souls deserves. They have suffered enough at the hands of others and themselves, it is time for Olivia to start claiming her life and taking it in her own hands.
We see Olivia in the dressing room with just Huck as they get ready for the wedding and Huck cut his hair and trimmed his beard for Olivia’s wedding.(don’t cry. Don’t cry, okay cry) you can see the wedding jitters plastered on both of their faces but Olivia walks to Huck and gets him ready for their big day.
As they walk another olitz’s greatest hit plays in the background. ‘You’re All I Need To Get By.’ This song was a turning point for Olivia and Fitz’s relationship, were Fitz finally earned Olivia and Olivia was accepting of being earned. The crowd is around her but all she can see is him standing there waiting for her. Olivia doesn’t appear frightened or scared about getting married but joyfully moved at the man waiting for her to cross over on the other side. Yes, he is all she needs to get by.
They exchange vows with their eyes remaining focused only on each other. With the chapel filled with roses we have set the scene to their very own rose garden. The church is filled with gold, roses, and lights that you get this feeling that this must be heaven.
Rowan’s clearly not happy with there union even in the alternate reality just as much as it displeases him in reality. The fact that Olivia chose love over power is an enlightening moment. Olivia is giving herself the life she genuinely wants and is becoming the person she feels she could be with Fitz by her side with Rowan staying in the shadows. Who would have known how much Olivia would have changed had Rowan never influenced her.
A year into their marriage and Oliva and Fitz are still happy and very much in love; with Oliva wearing Fitz’s navy shirt these two are still newlyweds with Olivia keeping count of how many times Fitz brings her to climax. I know Olivia took that navy shirt with her when she left the White House, there’s no possible way she could have left without taking a piece of him with her.
Even though Olivia and Fitz are married; Olivia still has her commitment issues as evident by her lack of compromise on moving and Fitz being lazy with his lack of effort in everything; but one thing is certain which is Olivia still feels the calling to be more, to create a name for herself, to be somebody whereas Fitz is looking to be a nobody.
Olivia wants to get this bill passed but because Fitz isn’t President in this realm and she thereby has no real power and knows any of the Washington elite Olivia is once again powerless, a feeling she hates to her core especially when she has to watch her husband with all the power vested in him be a reporter instead of a leader that she knew he could have been had she rigged the election. Oh Olivia and Fitz.
We don’t need to see Mellie and Cyrus and their pretense marriage and I began to ask questions about how Jake met Fitz and why now and most importantly I bet Rowan has him following Olivia and Fitz but I’m not going to do that because it’s not real and Olivia obviously doesn’t care about jake or even find him to be even equivalent to a boyfriend or stranger. So I shall keep it moving. Jake’s involvement is minimal to none and that’s why this episode is perfect.
Ironic that Olivia has made a point to separate herself from the people she’s been the closest too and the people who tend to bring out the worse in her (Rowan, Mellie, Jake) versus the people she’s been the most distant with yet represent her moral values ( Marcus, Abby, Fitz) oh Shonda the subtle messages you are delivering in this episode has left me completely and utterly flabbergasted. Even subconsciously Olivia is aware that associating with her dad and Jake bring out the worse in her, which is why this episode is refreshing to see, Olivia is aware of the moves being played around her but in this realm because she is not morally compromised and is wearing the white hat she associates herself with the people who do as well. Olivia is basking in the glow of light and love my friends.
Olivia with Marcus…where’s Harrison! Okay. Anyways. Olivia finds OPA and she buys it without Fitz knowing. Now, I’m not saying Olivia needs Fitz’s approval but in a marriage their is this thing called respect and communication something even in this realm Olivia and Fitz still lack. You talk with your spouse, you communicate your plans and desires with your spouse and not leave them flying in the wind. Fitz made sure to make note that Olivia wasn’t okay with buying a house but totally okay with buying OPA. Different reality but still the same damn olitz. Even married Olivia still suffers from commitment issues and taking the next step toward the unknown.
Sidenote: can I just say that I think it’s really cute how excited Olivia is to be in the oval versus now. Our Olivia walks around the oval like she owns the place and she partially does but this Olivia is able to appreciate it in a way our Olivia never has. And Olivia taking a selfie with JFK’s poster is the cutest thing ever but unfortunately as her and Marcus wait and wait for the President they quickly see that it was a mishap and they are never granted entry into the oval. Such a sour yet profound moment for Olivia. She wants power, she wants to make a difference but she is tied.
Upset and dejected Olivia comes home to see Fitz wasting away his potential with a glass of scotch. Oh this is going to hurt, the two begin to talk around one another like Olivia normally does when she doesn’t want to fight but ends up going for the gutter…*cough 509* …*cough breakup scene* Olivia and Fitz are having the same fight they had during the breakup, Fitz being selfished, Olivia constantly hiding, and the unforgettable blows under the belt they exchange.
Olivia references the ’big dog’ again, how she looks at Fitz and she doesn’t recognize him anymore but Fitz can’t live with the fact that he failed Olivia not Olivia failing him. Fitz drinking this much is never a good sign. The thing about Olivia and Fitz is that when things are good they are great but when it’s bad; it’s bad. Fitz fills his glass of scotch while asking Olivia if she’s screwing Marcus since he knows it’s not him. Olivia fires back by telling Fitz he never had a chance of winning and that he was ’unelectable. Grant for the people? Pathetic.’
Always one for perfect timing; Olivia found that after insulting her husband she should then confess that the reason they are miserable is because she opted not to fix the election and she is the only person who could have given him the presidency.
I’m not sure what Olivia was thinking telling Fitz this now, oh I know it’s called self sabotage something Olivia does frequently and the most recent being after her abortion. She creates these near impossible situations to come out unscathed just with the hopes of being able to walk away from it all. Olivia plants these moments of destruction because it is much easier to be the one leaving versus being the one left. Fitz tells Olivia she should have rigged the election and Olivia is shocked at hearing Fitz say those words but she tells him “you wouldn’t have want to win that way.” Fitz disagrees and Olivia tells him that defiance would have destroyed them but it seems that they have done that already with Fitz’s final words being ’ at least I would have been President.’ Won’t lie I was pretty nervous at this point. This was the 509 fight all over again and I found myself having flashbacks and ptsd of that unforgettable episode.
Five months later
Olivia and Fitz are still together but are they really? Everything about them is cold and distant. Big sigh and deep breath.
Instead of focusing on politics Fitz is now interviewing Lindsey aka Quinn aka the bachelorette. The idea of having to lower himself to such standards and with Olivia’s words echoing in his head about being pathetic. Yeah. This is bad. And with Olivia’s Bill headed to the floor she is gaining the power without the help of the White House, showing that it is possible to have power and not lose your soul but one part still remains, will she and Fitz get through this together? And with Abby handing Olivia her divorce papers. The chances of them coming out of this together are slim.
Olivia isn’t playing games, she is getting her life and leaving Fitz behind. It is safe to say that one way or another Olivia was going to make a name for herself but the thing is that being on the top alone isn’t all that fun when you don’t have anybody to share it with, welcome Abby. Abby is forever Olivia’s voice of reason and truth(4x10) and it still saddens me how low Olivia stooped with slapping Abby and treating her the way she did when she clearly holds her to such high esteem. Olivia brings up Abby and David being happily married, but Abby tells Olivia that she never gave Fitz a chance, and she honestly never has. Whenever Fitz falls from her ridiculously high pedestal instead of lowering the legs and waiting for him to get back up she runs or makes excuses as to why they will never work. Before leaving, Abby reminds Olivia why she is still living in her apartment. Woah. In their current realm Fitz didn’t ask Olivia to move in to the White House but just took it upon himself, whereas this Fitz asked and pleaded and Olivia opted to stay put arguing that it was too big and cost too much. In both realities Olivia always had one foot out the door, she never gave them a chance.
Olivia has some resentment over losing the election and having to watch Fitz chose being a celebrity over being a hero, for chosing that lifestyle over her and their shared ideas and politics that were so fundamental to who they were and who they strived to be. Regardless of time or the exact definition of their relationship, Olivia and Fitz always seem to connect through politics and the ideals they envisioned. ( ex. Brandon Bill) their relationship was at one of its most tumultuous moments with Fitz going to war to bring Olivia back. It was that bill that connected them once again and Olivia was remind of the man she voted for. It must be hard a pill to swallow for Olivia and Fitz as they move in perpendicular roads . Fitz needs his ass kicked that’s for sure but stick around Olivia to receive your reward otherwise someone else will. * cough Angela* *cough Quinn*
Quinn came into Fitz’s trailer to sleep with him and all I kept thinking was ‘don’t do this Fitz’. Don’t repeat Amanda Tanner cause this time you will actually be the father and Quinn would put you on child support before your pants drop. But Fitz and Quinn kiss and soon we find Quinn on her knees…yup…Amanda tanner style. The camera pans to Fitz looking at himself in the mirror as he attempts to drink his pain away but it doesn’t work and he sends Quinn away but somewhat sobered he sees his reflection in the mirror again and this time it’s stick. It’s a chilling sight to see but a much needed moment of reflection as he looks at the stranger staring back at him.
Mellie and Cyrus staged marriage comes to a climax where Mellie once again finds herself on the losing end, having been betrayed by Cyrus and Rowan who I’m ignoring throughout this episode. Mellie having been deflated goes to OPA to meet Olivia and tell her once in for all that she was right about defiance and she hates admitting that Olivia was right about defiance destroying Fitz. The parelles and tone of this monologue. Mellie confessed that she did what she thought she had to do in order to win and now she is trapped and being controlled by Rowan and Cyrus the same way Olivia is being controlled by Rowan in our current scandal. Agreeing to defiance, Olivia did what she deemed necessarily but now she is the one trapped. One of the good things that came out of not committing voter fraud was saving not only her soul but Fitz’s soul which is ultimately what hurted Olivia the most about Defiance. Hurting Fitz hurts Olivia.
Discussing Sally’s husband’s extra martial affair with James and the ’life of pretending’ On the air Fitz stops mid sentence and walks away. Fitz had been pretending for so long in our scandal realm that he forgot at one time what it meant to actually feel. Remember, pretending is real. Fitz walking off the set is setting the tone that he no longer wants to pretend, he’s ready.
Fitz comes home to a clearly pondering Olivia. Immediately Fitz tells Olivia the truth that he didn’t want the election, that he never wanted anything in life until he meet her. Cue the Olitz anthem ’the light ’. I just want to reiterate that Fitz has said this before, Rowan even acknowledge Fitz being a spoiled rich white boy who never worked for anything but found Olivia and was suddenly ready to be a man. This is true. Olivia showed Fitz the man he could be, the man he aspired to become with her by his side. While Olivia helped Fitz turn into a man, Fitz gave Olivia the freedom to love, and she does.
Fitz’s monologue is a thing of beauty but this wasn’t just entirely Fitz talking. This was Olivia. Fitz said everything Olivia has wanted to say but could never bring herself to speak aloud.
“Saying no to defiance was the right choice. I know that now. You tried to give me freedom. You tried to give me the chance to find happiness and I squandered it. That was on me. Only me. That’s why I’m sorry. I hadn’t recognized it. I didn’t understand it. I wasn’t thinking. It took me far too long to realize …. I have things to figure out. I have work, a lot of work to due; if there’re any hope of becoming the man I know I can be. The man you deserve. I still want you Olivia, if you’ll still have me.”
Olivia hands Fitz papers and Fitz timidly opens them expecting it to be divorce papers but it’s actually an ad of their soon to be Georgetown complex. Fitz picked Vermont for them and Olivia picked Georgetown. You see, unlike 509 where they broke up and went their separate ways, here in this world Olivia is claiming her life and ready to put forth the work and work towards creating a better life for her and Fitz, the life they deserve. In this world instead of fighting each other they hope to fight for one another. There is something unequivocally satisfying at watching Olivia finally seeing the life and light she’s been so afraid to have and to finally know now that it’s possible. Olivia doesn’t have to sell her soul for power and sacrifice love in order to be victorious. Olivia can claim the life she wants, if she is willing to fight for it.
Now that Olivia has found the key, she comes back from her dream with the biggest smile on her face as she once again leaves her baggage behind to find Fitz but this time I think the baggage might stay away. Olivia walking out the oval and leaving behind her pursue and coat and other possessions signifies this significant change inside her, now all of her worldly possessions me nothing to her without him by her side. The power, the money, the jewels are all an illusion that kept her from seeing the truth. Love. This episode is only about love. Olivia has denied herself this amazing love for so long and it seems that it is just now hitting her what it truly means. Love comes with setbacks and downfalls, you won’t always be happy but at least you know you have someone to fall back on if you fall.
But as Olivia walks through the corridor, she’s not exactly walking to Fitz but she’s running to him with such joy and vigor at what her life seems to have foretold. The mood is infectious and I feel we all have found ourselves rooting for Olivia and her pursuit of happiness as she runs to the balcony to find Fitz alone and at the same spot where she last confessed her love and desire to start a real relationship with him (4x22) . The balcony is a significant monument to Olivia and Fitz, it was here that Olivia came to Fitz after she removed her father (temporarily) from her life to create a new one with Fitz. As the camera pans on Olivia; we see her staring adoringly at Fitz with those little specks of light in her eyes. With this new found glow and light it is obvious that Olivia is feeling this extraordinary surge of love for Fitz and from Fitz. My God Olivia is in love and it feels as though she is just now realizing just how profound her love for him and the possibility of them is. Turning to Fitz she smiles at him happily as she tells him “I’m in.” And she’s not just referring to Cyrus being exonerated but she’s ’in’ with him. Olivia is ’in’ her right frame of mind, she’s ’in’ love with Fitz, and she’s ’in’ this to win it. Olivia Pope is ’in’. I do not see Olivia making a complete 360 overnight but this is promising episode leading to a more satisfying ending.
For the first time in quite some time Olivia felt a tangible sensation she swore she lost long ago.
I downloaded the episode & watched it. I loved how much we got to see Fitz. My love of Tony/Fitz made it not boring to me but I can see how some people would think it was boring(especially if you’re not a Fitz fan). There was a few annoying things.
1. I hate how stupid they write Fitz. I refuse to believe a man who was a navy pilot with a PhD, doesn’t know that you have to call to activate a debit/credit card. One, he knows how to read. Two, he was an adult before he became president and or governor so y’all can miss me with that bullshit.
2. I REFUSE to believe that Fitz is “so out of touch” with racism & racial issues in this world considering his work on The Brandon Bill, his relationship with Olivia, & his work with Marcus. Now I know you can be white, sleep with black, & still be racist trash BUT THAT IS NOT FITZ. Fitz is the man who called out Olivia for her Sally Hemings/Thomas Jefferson comment in season 2. Fitz is aware of their differences & have done & acted accordingly as a man who loves an African-American woman.
3. Marcus TRIED ALL OF IT. His comments about Fitz turning Olivia into a homewrecking black ho were laughable at best considering that technically, Marcus himself would be considered the same because he was fucking with a married white woman who ended up dead & fucked up his whole career when he was running for mayor. Pot, meet kettle. Marcus pour us all a cup cause the tea is piping hot.
4. Also all this gassing Olivia up needs to come to a COMPLETE STOP. She made Fitz they say. I say LIE AGAIN! OLIVIA CAROLYN POPE HAS NEVER WON ANY OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS SHE HAS RUN. Fitz lost his first election so they rigged that. His second term was a sympathy term since his son died on national TV. Mellie, didn’t win! Vargas did. They literally went all around the riverbend to make Mellie a President when no one elected you, sis. I digress tho. The point is, they gassing Olivia up like her whole career hasn’t been making people in “power” feel like they need her cause she hasn’t won any of the BIG ones yet.
5. Fitz & Marcus fight wasn’t expected. Fitz was right in his assessment of Marcus. He could be doing more & doing activism but he wants a seat at the table. I feel like Marcus is a big contradiction because in one breath he calls Olivia out her name but has done the exact same behavior. Case in point him calling her a black homewrecking ho when he slept with a married woman & the fact that he criticized Olivia in the Lawn Chair episode for not being “black enough” or working for the wrong side but then he turns around & worked for those same people. They really turning Marcus into one of those fake woke people.
6. Mellie’s little talk with Marcus. I liked her saying Fitz was a good man & her quote about the weather change but she tried it too. Fitz is such ineffectual garbage but ALL OF Y’ALL NEED HIM. She basically told Marcus to ride Fitz coattails until they drain him dry. She did it, Liv did it, now it’s homewrecking black ho #2 Marcus’s turn. If Fitz so worthless, why y’all on his dick? Why y’all need him to make shit happen? Why y’all need him advance y’all? Be great on your own. It’s sad to say but now I don’t trust Marcus & see him as another soul sucking leach to latch on to Fitz & drain him damn near dry.
7. Eli coming to get Fitz to come back to DC was predictable & annoying. He has spent seasons trying to tear them apart for seasons. Been complaining about Fitz being weak & Olivia being mediocre if she is with him but to Fitz is the first place Eli runs. Like that was really counterproductive. It makes EVERYTHING over the last few seasons that got them to this point pointless. Why did they go through all of that for Eli to finally bring them two back together.
8. The promo for the next episode…why Olivia mad tho? Like sis, if you really BOSSED UP, don’t have to explain yourself to no one & you should be chilling but here you are mad…about something.
The three of us together. Some may see the worst in Mellie and Cyrus but the truth is they’ve been loyal to me. They’re the only two who have been loyal to me. They’ve been true friends. Especially Cyrus. Cyrus is my best friend and I know all that he does comes from a good place. He has a big heart. Love you Cy!
Girl, tonight’s episode was directed by our beloved TonyG aka Tyrone …. he did that! I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. These are moments I picked up on and stood out to me. So it’s not gonna technically be a full detailed , play by play review, but still enjoy!
Ohhhh baby baby , baby baby: We open up with Olivia looking for her purse *cackles* Sis got the D and was ready to GO! Curtis on the other hand is laying in bed pleading his case on how he is worth more than creep visits 🤦🏽♀️ smh when will these men learn? Olivia Pope doesn’t want intimacy, affection, over night sleeping, unless it is with Fitzgerald Thomas Grant. Curtis hun , stay in your lane and just supply the D when called upon🙄🗣 next!
Next scene is a tour guide showing citizens around the White House and talking about the upcoming state dinner, also a “pool” being reconstructed was mentioned. 👀☕️
Olivia goes to her office and it’s “Mr. Vice President” Cyrus starts to talk about Olivia is being Formal with him like they weren’t friends, we all know Liv gets formal with people when she means business. She’s established a wall.
Now I’m just gonna run thru these next scenes Abby brought David lunch so he could get QPA invites to the state dinner.-Abby gets the invites and takes tickets to QPA- Olivia and Mellie walks down the hall discussing how they are going to get the President Rashad/Rashaad to sign a nuclear treaty. Lol Black people spell it as Rashad while as this man , from the Middle East probably spells it Rashaad 🤷🏽♀️. - QPA is shown getting ready for the Dinner, Huck is nervous because he says he doesn’t know how to communicate well with others (normal people) and Abby dress is so pretty! But what stood out in this scene to me was when Huck asked Abby if she missed the White House and before she replied the “OG Gladiator” song started playing in the background and I knew she was gonna say that being a gladiator was where she belonged or something similar and I was right because she said “ I prefer being a gladiator” ME: 🤧😭 yes Abby!
🗣Mellie needs the D, she wants a vibrator , her lady parts are getting cobwebs 😂😂😂 listen when Mellie started going on about how she needed some D I fell out laughing! Olivia ain’t right she getting some D why she ain’t tryna sneak Mellie in some part time D 👀☕️ cuz both yal mans in Vermont sooooo 🤷🏽♀️
Olivia: “I know, it’s lonely” 😭😭😭 Yal can’t know how broken Olivia looked in that moment, it was such a vulnerable moment and I can’t believe she displayed it in front of Mellie. It was as clear as day that Olivia Carolyn Pope has been/is missing Fitzgerald she damn near was choking on those words 😩🤧 Fitz where are you!
After that vulnerable moment we see Olivia walking towards the renovated pool. ( which lowkey was a closet that had a secret passage that opened up to an underground pool.) Joke is down there fixing the place up and he makes a smart comment about how the person who built that place felt safe in his pool, because outside he was confined to a wheelchair. In water was the only place he felt he could fly, to be free. Ummmmm if that’s not Olivia Pope! Because we all know Liv’s safe place is the pool😩 Liv I see yu boo, and I hear your cries!
Next are scenes from the State dinner, Charlie was feeling out of place, Huck was too and then later he ended catching an assassin lol only Huck, Liv’s new play thing was there tryna make her jealous and get her attention, David lowkey made a move on Abby (held her hand, in a romantic moment👀) and I fully support them getting back together should they go down that road again!
Some other things happened but it wasn’t anything major to me but it added to the overall episode! Ok now I think the last 10-15 minutes is where things get Juicy 😜!
I really thought they were gonna let Mellie and the President hook up , homeboy was being really flirty and he definitely was with it and when I say Mellie would’ve jumped down on the D…. she gone start a war for the D….sign a peace treaty for the D …she gone make it leak for the D 😂😂😂😭😭 lmaooo ok I’m sorry! But seriously Mellie was about to hop on him but she shook it off and homeboy was like 😏 I look forward to working with you in the future 😝 get that D Mellie girl! You deserve 😂😂😂
David tells Abby they are good together 😏
Lmaooooo Quinn slapped the entire fuck out of Charlie 😂😂😩 she thought he was breaking up with her (they didn’t!)
It never cease to amaze me how one damn word can send me over a fucking cliff! Olivia ends up taking the new boy toy home, they kissing on the elevator and as soon as the door opens they backing up and I saw Fitz‼️ *pause* yes you read it right! Code red, code blue! I repeat this is not a drill 🗣ITS FITZ BABY! I screamed so loudly! 💃🏽💃🏽‼️‼️ *twerks* (🙌🏽can I just SPEAK on how goodT Fitz was looking? Damn Vermont is treating him ohhh sooo well 🤗🤤🤤)
Now mind you they still kissing Olivia ain’t turned around or nothing , but Curtis opens his eyes and he lowkey pushes Olivia off him she turns around and BAM! Fitz hit her ass with a “HI.”
She was shook! 😯
I was shook! 😧
Hell you was shook! 😦😵😂😂
💃🏽🤗 big daddy came to town and finna put shit down! When I say I’m on cloud 10, cuz next weeks episode gone be so lit I can’t wait! Lmaooo can you imagine how QUICK she finna dismiss Curtis in the opening of next weeks ep? Olivia to Curtis:🗣bitch bye my man here, you’re dismissed! Lmao or what if Fitz plays it cool and be like “I see your busy, I’ll catch you another time.” 😩 she gone so fuckin distraught if he did that!
Fitz literally said “Hi” and me and Olivia melted! How dare he 🤦🏽♀️ lawwwd I can’t wait next episode all about 😍Fitz💃🏽♥️ this is the kind of Scandal content I signed up for‼️
Scandal Review 6.02- 'Careful What You Wish For, Love.'
Oh this episode will go down as one of my favorites for many, many, many reasons that I will explain later. I decided to do this review different only do to this episode being filled with such goodness nearly every scene. This is a complete scandal episode review from every scene that I loved.
We start this episode off at the Republican National Convention where Mellie is giving her speech about women having a seat at the table that was once exclusive for men only. The speech makes an impression on everyone but more so Marcus who is moved to tears by Mellie’s speech….* sips tea* Marcus looking at Mellie the same way Olivia looked at Fitz when he publicly declared:
-Uh, I miss my babies when their only troubles was that he was the President.
Mellie celebrates her victory and thanks everyone for all their help but as Olivia is barking orders, Marcus isn’t paying her any attention but instead Marcus lingers around and whispers in Mellie’s ear “told you so." A spark is ignited and Olivia caught it right away warning Mellie once Marcus left.
"Mellie be careful with Marcus, I see the way he looks at you.”
Mellie is excited about Marcus better yet anyone looking at her that she’s blushing and wanting to know in detail just how he’s looking at her but Olivia nips that quickly reprimanding Mellie.
“Senator, he’s young, he admires you, he works for you. Don’t.”
It’s the “Senator” that gets me. As we all know when Olivia is looking to distant personal life from professional life she will constantly redirect by using their title “Governor Grant, Mr. President, Attorney General, etc.” Mellie is know different.
Olivia is watching her life being played out right in front of her with Mellie and Marcus and the sight is unnerving for many reasons which is why she tells Mellie to leave Marcus alone. Because Olivia too was young and she admired and fell in love with the President that she worked for. Olivia has seen this story but this time she wants a different ending.
There is a flashback to the night of President Elect Vargas murder which actually gives good details once you’ve seen the episode.
Once again Olivia is back at the White House trying to get Fitz to investigate Cyrus for being at fault for killing Vargas but the entire time Olivia is rambling and arguing with David and Abby he’s just sitting their watching her cause he knows baby girl is on a witch hunt and it’s just best to let Olivia get her crazy out, but she doesn’t let up when Fitz told her he already had the FBI look into it causing Olivia to refer to them as “scrubs”
Now, who is in the FBI and what has the FBI done to Olivia to make her recoil and through such shady shade. And just like that we find out when Broad/Emily walks in with her natural hair and melatonin popping.
DAMN! The look Olivia gave Fitz when she heard broad’s voice… oh shit! Now, I am more curious as to whether Olivia has ever discussed “Angela” with Fitz cause the look she gave Fitz seems to tell me that Fitz might be aware of their past and oh do believe these two successful black women have a past. But Broad walks in throwing equal shade at Olivia and not giving a shit that the President is in the room, but Olivia once again “attempting” to separate her personal life from her professional calls the Broad “Ms.Webster.” but she just responds with “Olivia”
Now, this woman hasn’t been in the damn oval for a hot minute and her ass is throwing some serious shade, she needs check herself before Olivia Fucks her up. Olivia mockingly tells Angela that she means no offense “obviously” but ole broad ain’t with that fakeness and calls Olivia out.
If looks could kill, this girl would be eight feet under and Olivia would still be bashing her with a chair until she was another six feet more. I know she has dealt with Olivia before but she hasn’t dealt with this Olivia- this Olivia is a b613 thug, she killed the Vice President. The tension in the room is felt by everyone but Fitz moves past is, asking Angela who is the director of the FBI have they found any substantial evidence pointing at Cyrus and the SECOND she moves closer to Fitz, Olivia subtly blocks her path to him. Sorry, Ma’am thats as close as you will be getting to my boo boo.
YESS! I love a petty and jealous Olivia. Angela/ Emily/ broad just doesn’t know how crazy and low Olivia will stoop when she feels someone is trying to take something or someone that belongs to her. But, wait a minute…I thought she was over Fitz. Anyways, Olivia and Fitz are arguing in front of everybody and I have this distinct feeling that Olivia relished having Angela in the audience with a front row seat at the ‘Olitz Chronicles’ but I caught Angela’s eye pop out when Fitz mention the house in the woods blowing up… uh oh, besides Olivia and Fitz’s entanglement it seems Angela is connecting the dots quickly. Fitz moves in very close to Olivia and tells her that the election is over and that she needs to let it go. Olivia is down right appalled that Fitz is letting this go but Abby knows this won’t stop Olivia if anything it will encourage her to keep going which she tells Fitz who orders her to get him a confession so that they can move on because Vargas funeral os tomorrow.
Olivia isn’t ready to move on and she most certainly will not back down. The question I have for Olivia is what are you fighting for- are you fighting for your life that you desperately want back or are you fighting for power or maybe both. I think time will answer this question for us.
Ex- Lady gang
My, my, my these two have gotten close and I mean like best friend kind of close with both of them bashing their same ex husband. Olivia and Mellie are on the phone talking about that bastard Fitz who’s giving Cyrus the oval. Olivia has found a companion in Mellie where they bash the men they love and share a glass of wine but Mellie doesn’t let it take first place in her life because when Fitz said Teddy was asking for her, she stopped what she was doing and went to see her son.
Sike! It wasn’t Teddy but Fitz tricking Mellie and Cyrus, telling them to come up with a plan save America. Boy, I love me some Presidential Fitz. Cyrus tells Mellie to become his Vice President but Mellie goes on her tirade about being “equipped” and that she’s “experienced” ….Mellie needs to go to sleep with all that foolish cause she is not qualified nor was she a suitable candidate either with her 1.2 months of governmental experience…Mellie, kick rocks! Cyrus tells Mellie that he’s innocent this time and that’s he’s not the bad guy in this situation; Olivia is. But Mellie isn’t with that and turns down Cyrus rejection cause she knows Olivia is the good guy and she already paid her members fee to the group.
Mellie and Marcus
Abby summons Jake and the first thing he brings up is that he 'hears’ Olivia is on a war path for the body in the cabin… hoe, how you know this. Abby being a big red dog wants this case closed down so she hires joke to handle it for her. Because she knows Jake doesn’t want Mellie to win. Ugh, Abby. I thought you learned by now not to cross Olivia and then you help the command fam by getting a written confession by the hands of Jake. I see you Abby and I am not impressed with this constant need to flex your power because you know in a matter of months you will be once again powerless.
Marcus catches Mellie in the White House and runs to see if she’s okay. Wow. We get it Shonda, Mellie and Marcus are paralleling Olivia and Fitz’s relationship. How Fitz would run to Olivia to see if she was okay and that he missed her. (2X08) Mellie tells Marcus not to pretend that he cares for her when he is just like every man she has ever loved, they never chose her. Now, Mellie is right though. Fitz never chose Mellie and Andrew most certainly didn’t either so when it comes to the love department Mellie is constantly looking for someone who will love her and choose her. To be honest, I actually feel and understand because Mellie is like all of us looking and wanting a love that can be life changing so I understand her quest for something real when all her life she has believed that pretending is real.
Olivia needing the footage and information from the FBI decides to have dinner with her old school nemesis Ms. Webster. The two congratulate one another on being mature adults now…* sips tea* yeah these two probably went to school together and constantly competed against each other. Olivia and Angela bond and share stories about what it means to be a successful and powerful black women and for that I salute Shonda and I also agree with their relationship as it is a constant in most black Women’s lives. Instead of us seeing another black women as our sister or ally we see them as our enemy whose trying to take something from us. Yas, Shonda ; I see you and I hear you, sistah.
Olivia makes a simple comment about the President being lucky to have her and much to her surprise, Angela immediately starts blushing causing Olivia’s head to jump up and look at her with a pointed expression. Olivia doesn’t keep this knowledge to herself but quickly exclaims “oh” because she’s at a lost that Angela has a thing for her man. Angela down plays her attraction for Fitz saying “she would never, they go way back.” And all Olivia can do is chuckle because she knows Angela and knows that Angela is after her man after all he is “attractive, magnetic, charismatic.” You know what, for a guy Olivia doesn’t love and is completely over she used quiet a bit of adjectives to describe Fitz, and Angela agreed that Fitz is all those things but she would never do that to Olivia. And for the first time since the dinner Olivia lets out a sigh of relief that Angela isn’t after Fitz with an eased “okay” but then Angela said “unless you give me the green light”
Can we take a moment to appreciate the gift that is a petty and jealous Olivia Pope. She is the gift that just keeps on giving. Broad is playing with fire and she wants Olivia to give her the green light so she could date her ex boyfriend who just so happens to be the most powerful man in the world and the same man Olivia is still very much hung up on… Olivia ain’t going to give you no green light so you can walk away with her prize, nope. Olivia is going to you a black eye instead of a green light; ok Ms. Thang. I love this entire dialogue and undertone of this scene because it says so much without giving much away. Angela, asked Olivia if she has feelings for him or anything but instead of answering Olivia agrees that Angela should ask Fitz out, especially “if he says yes, then of course.” Olivia being extra shady and petty with that jab because Olivia doesn’t think Fitz would go out on a date with Angela. I’m not sure why Olivia would think that Fitz would declining Angela’s offer, maybe Fitz is aware of their past or maybe she feels that Fitz isn’t into black women but either way Olivia does a good job at pretending and selling Fitz to Angela a with plastered fake “great” smile.
What the hell is Olivia doing. Olivia is playing with fire, she came to this dinner hoping to get something out of it and she did but she never counted on Angela getting something in return. Instead of walking away from the dinner feeling victorious, you can see Olivia regretting her decision to have dinner in the first place because nothing is going as she planned and hoped for. Makes you wonder why the hell this is all for. Be careful what you wish for, Olivia. Olivia is thinking she is handling and shutting down this case but the only thing she is doing is opening the door for more people to enter. Man, I am completely happy and pleased with Angela’s involvement in this storyline cause Olivia needs to gain some perspective.
I love the contrast between Angela and Olivia. Angela is wearing black and white. Olivia is wearing all black. And my friend Jane mentioned Angela drinks white wine and Olivia drinks red. Completely opposite people with similar goals and wants. I am here for this development.
Abby is really flexing that power with her red jacket, she sitting in the chair at the FBI like she’s running the place, and well… she is. Abby was able to stop the director of the FBI from entering the interrogation room. SHIT. Talk about a blow to the ego and the gut. Nothing shocking but Jake walks out with a signed confession. Yawns. Fast Forward. Cause ain’t nothing scary about labia lips.
Louise has finally joined Thelma at their headquarters where Olivia is finally able to have a glass of wine with her friend but Olivia isn’t really into drinking right now nor is she interested in talking about election. Their are more pressing matters to discuss like how Broad is trying to get into their gang and steal their prized boo. I love that it is clearly troubling Olivia that Angela is wanting to make an attempt at Fitz. Now, Let’s be clear. Fitz is the only man that Olivia has ever truly chosen and loved without being influenced by outside forces. Olivia and Olivia only choose Fitz. This moment is distressing for Olivia considering that Angela is equally accomplished and beautiful and worse of all she very well might have it all if she gets Fitz. But before Olivia could even begin to talk here comes meek David.
Shonda is testing me. Why is she bringing David’s ass to OPA to ruin what would have been an excellent moment for Olivia to talk about her feelings and the past. Sigh. David comes to OPA crying about the republic, blah, blah, blah.
Olivia goes to the White House to see Fitz but Big Red has that door locked and she’s not for Olivia coming in and killing her vibe. And actually uses Olivia’s own words against her.
Marlie and Me
Mellie calls Marcus and tells him about Cyrus wanting her to be his VP and basically asking for advice on what to do. Once again we get the parrels to Olivia and Fitz’s relationship and their dynamic, even to this day Fitz still wants Olivia’s help, he even asked Olivia what to do with the presidency which he threw in her face- not cool by the way but still these two people have such a foundation with one another that it’s almost second nature to seek their counsel. Before hanging up, Marcus tells Mellie that he would choose her but she just has to choose him. Aww.But still. Fast Forward.
We flash back to the campaign and the Ex-lady gang is sitting on the couch plotting together until Olivia looks at Mellie’s blissful gaze and she knows what better yet who Mellie has done because their was a time when Olivia too had that same look. Mellie describes her moment with Marcus as a catharsis, how she’s been reborn under his magical touch because she sees now how beautiful and bright life is after living in the dark for so long. Mellie is a believer. And the thing she believes in, is love.
There is no mistaking how the screen pans to Olivia’s saddened face at the mention of love. Love is the one thing Olivia wants desperately yet she denies herself the privileged of knowing what love feels like. Instead of relishing in the warmth of love, Olivia feels compelled to run from it and go back to safety and anonymity of the dark. Mellie, tells Olivia that she has gone so long without love that she misses it. And it’s painfully clear that Olivia too misses the comfort familiarity of love. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When Olivia finally decided to embrace her relationship with Fitz and to feel the warmth of his love on her skin, it changed her. So when Mellie asked Olivia.
“Is this what you felt with Fitz? Because if it is. I understand. You should have It. I should have it. Everybody should have it. It’s happiness. I’m happy”
This statement is completely underrated. Mellie is telling Olivia that if she loved Fitz then she should never deprieve herself of the fulfillment that comes with love. The heart hungers for affection and as humans we suffer enough as it is, why must we add to our suffering when we can be happy. For years Mellie has degraded and cheapened Olivia and FItz’s love often referencing to it as tawdry affair but now Mellie is able to sympathize with Olivia in a way she never has before. She sees now. Mellie has now given Olivia her blessings to be with Fitz if he makes her happy. The beauty of this dialougue is that Mellie doesn’t shy away from love but she welcomes it with open arms, open legs and with an open mouth. Mellie is in love and she’s not afraid of it which is the exact opposite of Olivia who had love but ran from it. Olivia tells Mellie she’s happy for her but the look in her eyes tells a different story.
Olivia has lost too much and she can’t bear to lose her closest friend now. Everyone is growing up and moving on with their lives except Olivia. Mellie’s bad habits mirrored Olivia’s where Olivia felt half way decent about herself because Mellie never required her to look at herself in the mirror and fix herself but now with Mellie seeing baby Jesus and the light, Olivia would be losing her too which would leave Olivia completely and totally alone. The idea isn’t pleasing to Olivia and so she does what she does best, she fixes the problem. She plants a story in Mellie’s head about Marcus using her to advance his career and that he has been in scandals, etc. But Mellie doesn’t fall for the bait, she’s seen the light.
Abby needing to one up Olivia and keep her power goes to Mellie’s office and tells her that the reason Marcus got the job at the White House was because Olivia wanted to break them up. They flash back to the campaign, Olivia tells Abby that she needs for her to give Marcus a job because he has something going on with Mellie and she can tell that it is more than just a fling. Abby remarks that Olivia wants her to break them up the same way she broke up her and David. Yes. Abby! Someone needs to remind Olivia that she is playing with peoples lives and relationships and she doesn’t get to say who stays together and who breaks up just because she wasn’t brave enough to fight for her own relationship.
Upset and rightfully so, Mellie walks up to Olivia’s apartment and ask her if she gave Marcus the Press Secretary job and Olivia’s response was all Mellie needed to know. She’s completely shocked that Olivia would stoop this low, especially after everything they have been through. Mellie can’t believe that Olivia is the one person that has successfully destroyed every relationship that she has ever had. Mellie asked the question we are all dying to know “why are you doing this?” “What is wrong with You?” The answer is quite complex; Olivia destroyed Mellie and Marcus’s relationship because misery loves company and Mellie leaving her would require Olivia to look at herself and her actions , and that is not something Olivia wishes to do. But also I think when Olivia looks at Mellie and Marcus she sees her and Fitz and what they were like when they first met and fell in love. Olivia was trying to change history and erase her memories of her and Fitz had someone interfered with their relationship and broke them up. Like Olivia said in 5X03:
“If I never laid eyes on him then I wouldn’t have fallen in love and he wouldn’t have fallen in love. That may have made for two more lonely people in the world, but also a lot less pain and heart ache…is the coming of two people worth all this destruction, all this attention. If it was a choice who would choose this kind of love. So I wish we never met. But we did. And I tried and failed and tried again and failed, to hide, to stop loving him but I couldn’t, I was weak.- Olivia Pope
Part of me feels like Olivia was trying to see through Mellie what life would have been like had she stuck to her plan and not been weak and fallen in love. Olivia probably feels she was sparing Mellie the pain but the thing about it is, that Mellie wants to feel and she’s not afraid of it but welcomes the sensation. Rowan controls Olivia’s relationship but that doesn’t give Olivia the right to control everyone else’s. Olivia echoes commands words when making her point about how Marcus would have caused a scandal and is a political nightmare but more than that; Mellie doesn’t get to have both.
You get to be powerful, you get to change the world. You don’t get to be vulnerable, or weak, or compromised in any way, by any one. You said you wanted the oval, Mellie, and it was my job to get it for you. There are sacrifices.
Mellie doesn’t get to have love, and be 'weak, vulnerable and compromised. Mellie gets to be 'powerful, and change the world.’ Mellie can’t have both and she can’t see that, the same way Olivia couldn’t either so Olivia made a call to steer them in the right direction. Granted, this is Olivia’s own feelings about the impossibility of having it all. Mellie rightfully pissed off tells Olivia that she’s going to take Cyrus’s offer to be Vice President now that they are over and wishes Olivia good luck getting back into the White House, because without Mellie, Olivia is all alone.
Now that’s what I call a read. Ironic, that Olivia tried desepareatly to keep Mellie and she still ended up leaving her. Olivia’s nightmare came true she’s all alone now with no choice but to look at herself.
Dejected and depleted Olivia goes to OPA where she tells Quinn and Huck to wrap up this case because they no longer have a candidate. This conversation quickly turns to Quinn’s looming engagement where Olivia very obviously projects and stresses to Quinn that she should get married because:
"He somehow loves you and you somehow love him. And you’re looking for excuses because you are scared. What is stopping you from accepting something some people never have? What? Share. your. life. because you’re not tethered to power, because you live below the radar, because you are free from it, because you can. You are being offered normal, maybe even happy. The fact that you are questioning whether you should take them , frankly is annoying… Live, you get to live and love and be happy. Do you know what some people would give for it.”
Quinn concedes and Olivia feels slightly better now that she has steered Quinn in the right direction.
The scene picks up with Frank Vargas funeral. Touching scene with Marvin singing in the back how the good die young, fitting scene but a somber one considering Frankie would have down this fictional realm some good.
Mellie walks into Oval but is stopped by Charlotte saying that President Grant is in a meeting . Both Mellie and Olivia are adjusting to having boundaries in the White House that they both once ruled. Mellie walks into the oval and waits for Marcus to show up and he does but Mellie isn’t there.
Instead Mellie returns to Olivia and ask Olivia “did it hurt this bad when you left Fitz?” After a long pause Olivia finally answers “yes” handing Mellie a glass of red wine. The two sit down on the sofa but Mellie is looking at Olivia and you can tell that she knows something is wrong with Olivia but once again we are interrupted with Huck this time.
Here’s the thing. Mellie and Marcus are not Olivia and Fitz, not even close. But for years Mellie has wanted answers, as to why her white, successful, powerful husband would chose a black women over her. Mellie has tried to make sense of their relationship and has asked Fitz before what it felt like to be so hot for someone that you could barely breath. Mellie has cheapened their relationship every chance she got but it’s only now after experiencing something that feels real with Marcus that she sympathizes for olitz and their forbidden quest of being together. Finally, Mellie understands why once you go black you never go back. So throughout the episode, Mellie would asked Olivia, is this what she felt because she needs confirmation that if she feels this way for Marcus then she can only imagine what Olivia felt for Fitz. Mellie is desperate for love and honestly I want her to have it because like she said, everyone deserves it.
Olivia spots Fitz on the Truman Balcony and with a deep breath she walks out to face him, only this time he’s not alone.
Fitz has taken Broad to the Truman Balcony where Olivia declared her love for him. This sacred monument has been tarnished, and Olivia feels the weight of this betrayal though it isn’t really.
I can’t . This hurts my heart and though I enjoy watching Olivia squirm and hear the ticking of the clock. This has to be a mighty fall and bruise to her ego especially when she told Angela to “go for it” if he says yes. Olivia, never expected Fitz to actually say yes. Granted, we don’t’ why Angela is there but from the looks of It, Fitz and Angela are looking pretty close. When Olivia saw them together I love that Olivia pulls her cape tighter around her chest in hopes of shielding herself from the visceral stab to her heart at the sight of the man she loves moving on with his life without her. And I peeped those dark green purse and gloves, Olivia is rocking with that envious face.
Olivia is mad as hell and disgusted by what she just saw. Olivia is literally seething with such hidden jealously and anger. Olivia Pope is ticking. And when she turned her eyes on Angela, boy oh boy. Angela, please believe me when I tell you that you are in danger. If Angela thinks Olivia is going to step aside and let her walk away with the only man she has ever loved then she has another thing coming. Better yet the fact that Olivia has access to Fitz’s private chambers and is allowed to come and go as she pleases should speak volumes. When it comes to Fitzgerald Grant, Olivia Pope will always find her way to get close to him somehow. Watch out people, Olivia is out and she’s not going to be backing down.
The video Olivia hands Fitz, is of Frankie yelling at Cyrus and vowing that he would remove him from his ticket and that over his dead body will he allow Cyrus to be his Vice President. Now, this evidence still yet to be proven and I’m still not sold on Cyrus being the murderer but the play on words. Yikes.
After showing the video, Olivia gives Abby a knowing look. Yup, bow down big red cause Olivia Pope took you back to school. Olivia moves rather close to Fitz and asked him almost intimately whether they should call the Justice Department now, which causes Fitz to bark at Abby to call David.
Olivia after successfully stopping Angela’s groove and having Fitz make Abby call the Attorney General to look into Cyrus as being a suspect.
She’s back bitches, and she came to slay.
Olivia Pope is getting into formation.
This episode exceeded my expectations tremendously, less plot and more character driven narratives are always my preference and this episode delivered on so many levels. BRAVO. BRAVO.
- and don’t think I didn’t peep olé dad on Olivia’s coffee table smiling at his 'ultimate predator’. You really are Rowan’s child, Olivia. Do better.
-ready to get the backstory on Olivia and Angela’s relationship, and watching Olivia foil Angela’s plan.
-Me calling Angela ‘Emily’ is because of a story I’m writing that takes place in season 6 so you’ll hear that name from time to time for my own joy in pissing people off.
-But can we salute Olivia on this continued growth because she is seeing the error of her ways, and is trying to get her life back. She’s doing everything she can but I don’t believe Olivia has contemplated what life would be like post-Fitz.
Time is ticking. And just like Olivia and Fitz; Mellie and Marcus are far from over and I enjoy their relationship as it seems to correlate with Olivia’s own with Fitz.
Awesome episode, for me a thousand times better than the season premiere.
You sure do love a problem. You’re so vain. It’s always about you, isn’t it? The problems you create so that you can solve them. The power you have to wield so that you can feel important. Did your father and I not tell you you were special enough when you were little? Did we not give you enough hugs? Aww, baby. This uppity fantasy world you’ve decided to be a part of… it’s not real, boo. Now you need to come on back down to this planet. Where the world doesn’t revolve around you.
Maya The GOAT Pope, “You Can’t Take Command” (#Scandal 422)
Olivia’s ridiculous and narcissitic idea of letting herself be imprisoned, in the foolhardy belief that it would stop the process of Mellie becoming president, reminded me of this read by Maya.
Everything about this episode was so raw, I loved it. I applaud Shonda and the Scandal Writers because this was definitely a gem of an episode. This is Scandal content I like to see. A Fitz centered episode? In this economy? Praise GOD, cuz only he answered our prayers 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
“Where’s 💋 Olivia?” “#Olitz 4eva”
So we open up with Fitz riding in his SUV heading somewhere(?) and me and him both spotted some Olitz fans with these signs‼️😜💃🏽 hey now! omgggggg that was a moment! Shout out to those two. It was a man and a woman! They the real MVPs! They were representing for us Olitzers 🤗 but Fitz kinda gave a little smile but it was so quick you almost missed it my mans is lowkey sad 😒 and we all know why.
Ommmahgawd he walks into the house and it looks warm , it’s really pretty but you can just feel the emptiness. So next Fitz is in bed watching Tv, a news show reporting on how President Grant just came to Vermont and they were wondering if he would be like Jimmy Carter and blossom out of office or fade away like George W. Bush? And then someone said “can you imagine such a charismatic lightning rod figure thriving in a small town, being a regular joe? 👀 and then the black man was like na fuck all that I wanna know about that kiss‼️ lmao leave it to a black person to wanna know some tea! 😂😂 but I’m with him tho. 🤷🏽♀️ Olivia sis what’s good? But seriously Fitz definitely won’t fade away, we just not gone even entertain that idea 🙅🏽 don’t ever disrespect Fitzgerald Thomas Grant like that 👊🏽💢
I’m a grown man😎
Fitz woke up and fired everybody lol, he says he has been cared for , for 8 years, he wants this freedom and to be able to do things for himself. Including making turkey sandwiches which are his favorite. And my mans said he gone drive his damn self 😂😂 Fitz was not playing with these folks. In the car while he’s driving he was jamming to Rihanna “Needed Me” but you know ABC so they covered it up with “shake ya groove thang” 😂😂😂 so we at the grocery store , Fitz and Olivia and that front lawn kiss is on every newspaper and magazine. Fitz buys groceries but he didn’t activate his card , lowkey didn’t even know how to swipe it 😂😂🤦🏽♀️ then he called the card to activate and I’m guessing the woman told him he didn’t sound like how he look or something cuz he was like “sorry to have let you down” lmao aye tell that wanch she can square tf up! 😒 don’t play him like that! And did yal see how the cashier was posing for the pictures 😂 I would have done the same thing, hell get my good side! (Also 👀 I want one of those magazines. )
🙃Cooking with Fitzgerald
Lmao yal Fitz burnt that chicken a couple times before finally getting it right. He had to eat a burger after that first burnt chicken 😂😂 I appreciate this tho because he gets to be domestic and that’s what he wanted to do for a long time. So I’m glad he finally got a chance to. That was really cute to see him like that.🤧 Although he wanted to be domestic with Olivia but I’m not gonna go down that road right now. 🙃
Fit actually went running, and we all know he use to hate that! But looks like he wants to keep in shape, or maybe he’s trying to find things to do to keep his mind off the fact that Olivia ass is not there in Vermont 🤧 👐🏽ik ik , I said I wasn’t gonna go there but let me just say real quick that’s it’s only been 5 minuets into the show and I can already see Fitz is lonely without Olivia. And of course we all know how she’s been doing without him 🤦🏽♀️ can yal please just let these two souls be together damn they so miserable without each other. But anyway we see days go by and Fitz is doing this same thing over and over. So tonight he’s watching tv and a young man is getting interviewed. He’s protesting, he’s sleeping underneath a statue of a man who is celebrated as a hero but was a slave owner/ rapist. General Raymond Sist. He raped black slaves he owned and imprisoned his own children. And this young black man wants to know why isn’t it documented? Why as a young black person do we have to celebrate these type of people? 🗣pause. This is one of the moments I applaud the scandal writers. Yes speak this truth! In school we grew up and still til this day they teach about these type of people and always sugar coat the bull shit that they did. I love how they portrayed this moment. If we gotta learn about these people make sure you tell all the things that they did. Including the racist, sexist and misogynistic things. They love erasing history.
So Fitz turns off the tv and opens up a package that Marcus had sent from his belongings. It was a gun 👀 and the way he was acting with it I was like hold up are we finally about to hear/see a flashback to the time he tried to kill himself? My first reaction :Bitchhhhhh hol up‼️ this gun! Is this like a hint of how he tried to kill himself that one time😱😱😱😱 GIRL‼️
Lmao Marcus said fuck Mellie he all in the club in Cuba grinding on a woman 😩😩😩 Marcus is the new Stella do ya hear me 😂😂
Marcus heads to Vermont: Marcus and Fitz are running together and Marcus shows Fitz where his Museum is going to be built, they share a moment. Now we back at the house and on the tv a reporter is talking about Mellie and Fitz was like she might need my help. Marcus tells him that out of respect he needs to wait before he tries to help Mellie, the new President with anything. Because she’s trying to step out of his shadow. Once again the gun is mentioned Marcus says he didn’t know Fitz owned a gun and Fitz tells him it was a gift. And then Marcus brings up Olivia 👀☕️
Marcus wants to know how much is Olivia gonna be featured in Fitz library. Marcus tells Fitz that Olivia worked in his White House, Advised him and Ran his campaign, lived with him and was Americas 1st First Girlfriend. She stood tall in front of the American people and assured them Fitz was good to go when he had got shot. And now she’s the chief of staff to the president that succeeded him. Olivia is Hillary Clinton, Beyoncé, Oprah, and Sistah Souljah all in one. Marcus goes on to say “Olivia is important to the people, the world, they care about Olivia. There was a house with Olitz in Christmas lights.” 😜😜😜💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 ayeeeee we lit! Who ship keeps getting mentioned? #Endgame that’s who! And after this conversation I picked up on something Fitz is trying not to think about Olivia, he wasn’t tryna hear what Marcus was saying about her having her own wing in his museum.
Fitz: you’re basically telling me I’ve been reduced to nothing but a man who loved a woman.
Marcus: welcome to the plight of almost every successful woman in the history of mankind.
🗣pause. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 say that shit Marcus! Women have always always always been reduced to just a love interest or her accomplishments have to ride off on a mans! Speak 👏🏽 scandal writers are on 1 with this episode seriously 😏
Bar Scene: “hoods and tiki torches” yes scandal writers 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Marcus was like I need to know where the black people at in case some shit popped off! Also, Fitz isn’t ready to work. And I personally feel like it’s a lack of motivation. Olivia was a big part of his motivation, at least that’s how I see it. And when Fitz was like “I let go”
Me: 🗣you lying. I know you lying, you know you lying , secret service know you lying, hell TOM, wherever his ass at know you Fitzgerald are lying.🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥
Lmaooooo I knew they ass was gone get into it‼️Lmaooooo wait! Real quick can I just say that my man Fitz got heart 😜 he threw the first punch lmao and Marcus didn’t back down! Yal I was screaming and laughing at this damn fight 😂😭😂😭🤦🏽♀️ but honestly I saw them arguing coming I just didn’t know it would end up in a fight! Lol. I mean they both been bottling up their feelings and it just exploded 💥 but they gone get closer after this, ain nun like a fight between friends lol! Although they did say some harsh shit to each other but it was the truth and it needed to be said.
Fitz was miserable and being lazy and he wasn’t doing Olivia justice unless he give her her own wing and celebrate that bad ass black woman that she is! I don’t care how you feel about Olivia she is a fuckin BOSS and she gets shit done. Her methods are sometimes on the deep end but she be making moves. And Marcus ass wants power and he jumping on anybody bandwagon to get it lol which is fine do you and get it how you live ! Just don’t be a fuck boy 🤷🏽♀️ and I like when he said “a black woman held you up” ☕️👀 Yal know Fitz my baby but yesss give my other baby Olivia her fuckin credit! She inspired and made Fitz and that’s no lie. He wanted to be great for her. He wanted to be able to do things but Olivia pushed him to it. 😎 remember the 100th episode.
🗣they not Olitz 😂 soooo I guess Mellie and Marcus were tryna have an Olitz moment with the phone call , lol no. But I will say this you could tell they had things to say but they didn’t. And Although Marcus probably does miss Mellie, he only called her so she could talk him into staying by Fitz Side.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Fitz got a Red eye, ain’t no black eye 😭😭 soooo how Rowan sneaked in the house? 🙄😒 where tf was security? Listen if you have not watched this episode go watch it now! The whole time Rowan was talking I was just like “I’m suppose to feel sorry for this bitch? 🗣HA , I don’t!” And let me tell you why. 🗣He is pure grade A Shit! I can not stand his manipulative ass. Now that Olivia is in control he wanna be a caring father? Now all of a sudden he gives a damn about how he raised her? Child please. Where is the worlds smallest violin 🎻 I need it. “The Woman we love is slipping away.” Well damn don’t you think you pushed her to this. Had it not been for Rowan lying and standing in Olivia’s way, making her feel powerless time and time again she wouldn’t be this fuck’d up‼️🙄🤦🏽♀️ yal them fake ass crocodile tears *que in Joceline “I cun not I cun not”* it’s crazy how he hated Fitz so damn much but now you in his room begging this man to save your daughter ☕️ I love tears for tea.
So anyway yal know Fitz 😏 he got pumped up and was ready to make some shake all because of Olivia. This is what happened: After Rowan left , Fitz is sitting outside the house in a rocking chair. There were two, I’m guessing the other one was for Olivia 🤧 but I’m not gone start lol. Ok so Marcus pulls up , he gets out and walks to Fitz. Fitz is holding a gun and Marcus is like ummmm what yu doin? Lol Fitz tells him he Father gave him that gun, when he became governor. And he tells him Cyrus once told him that when he wasn’t president anymore and the lights were off of him, he would take that gun and blow his brains out. (Fuck You Cyrus) Marcus is like you’re not gonna do that right? And Fitz is like Na kid I got shit to do 😂 ok fr he was like No. and then he tell Marcus he throws a mean punch and Marcus was like I can barely move my jaw. They laugh and make up. Fitz: Marcus is Olivia Pope everyone’s world or just mine?
😭😭😭🤧 why did that touch me? Like why does this man love for her makes me so emotional? 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Tony is one hell of an actor🤗 I legit love him frfr, his portrayal of Fitz needs to go down in History, right along with Kerry’s portrayal of Olivia.
Fitz tells Marcus he needs to go to Washington for a while but before he does he wants to “do some meaningful ” Marcus knew what time it was he was like “I’d be happy to help you with that sir.” and I was like yesssss my boy is back! I knew what that meant, He got some pep in his step! And he ready to go handle business. Fitz and Marcus goes to where the young black man is sleeping underneath the statue. President Fitzgerald Grant encourages him to keep fighting as the young man had just told him he felt like giving up. And so Fitz hugs him and gives him gloves and he thanked him for his service and tells him good luck. And before Fitz leave he was like sir selfie for the gram 🤳🏽 mane I fell out laughing 😂😂😂😂 Fitz threw up the peace sign and everything ✌🏽
🗣pause ok another moment to applaud! Yal remember not to long ago how people were protesting and getting these statues knocked down? 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 good job scandal for including this!
Finally Fitz is off to Washington and of course we end up right where we left off on the previous episode where Fitz is at Olivia’s door and she comes out of the elevator and gets SHOOKEN to her core 😜 so next week we will get to see her reaction and hopefully get some tea on what really happened between them and why they asses ain’t been talking because they did not explain how we went from kissing in front of the world to not talking once he landed in Vermont 😒🤦🏽♀️ but overall I enjoyed this episode I loved that it was Fitz centered and I love how they were not afraid to step on some toes in this episode! Can’t wait for next week, hope it’s another goodie!
