For Immediate Release: April 10, 2013
New York, NY - Zola Books announced today that Tad Floridis has joined the company as Director of International Business Development. Said Joe Regal, Zola CEO: “We are delighted that Tad will be laying the groundwork for our launch abroad. His wealth of experience will help us target the best opportunities for development of content, identify possible strategic business partnerships, and build expert local teams in each of the markets we plan to enter in the coming months and years.” Floridis’ first task will be to focus on taking the company into the UK and British Commonwealth markets, and he will join Regal next week at London Book Fair 2013 as part of that endeavor.
An industry veteran, Floridis has spent the majority of his career in leadership roles at start-ups in the internet, publishing and sustainability spaces. He co-founded and ran Canongate U.S., the transatlantic joint venture of Grove/Atlantic, Inc. and Canongate Books, publishing cutting edge fiction like Steven Hall’s The Raw Shark Texts and contemporary classics like The People’s Act of Love by James Meek. As Associate Publisher, Tad led operations, marketing, sales, publicity and editorial, presiding over multiple national bestsellers. Prior to that, Tad took part in raising over $4mm in strategic and venture funding, and was named EVP of Business Development for Rightscenter, Inc., a software-as-a-service provider for film, publishing and other media companies to manage their intellectual property rights. The company was sold in 2003 and its Film Rights Database, which Tad created, remains an industry standard for literary-to-film rights acquisitions. Early in his career he worked at Random House as an editor and wrote pieces on subjects ranging from CNBC’s Squawk Box anchors to Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus for GQ, Men’s Journal and The New York Observer. At Salomon Brothers in San Francisco, at the dawn of the internet, he worked in the research department covering personal computer stocks. He graduated with highest distinction in English and Business Administration from Wabash College and grew up within sight of the Wright Brothers home in Dayton, Ohio.
