“SurfHaiti.org is focused on improving the spiritual, physical, vocational, academic and social lives of Haitians.”

Our strategy is to establish Jacmel, Haiti as a surf tourism destination. The surf industry generates billions of dollars in sales yearly and many developing nations have capitalized on development of a “surf culture” that provides jobs and a passion for environmental protection. The founders and volunteers of SurfHaiti.org have a passion for surfing, the ocean, the environment and seek to share our passion for the benefit of Haitians.“ www.surfhaiti.org #Haiti #ayiti #ayibobo #teamhaiti #teamayiti #HaitianPhoenix #zoedup #picoftheday #bestoftheday #phoenixrising #Africa #slavery #freedom #revolutionary #knowthyself #tourism #haitiopenforbusiness #travelnoire #tourism #travel #Jacmel #surf #vacation #caribbean #sakpasse

By @myhaititravels “Kreyol Essence is one of my favorite Haitian brands. They reinvented a staple that is in every Haitian household - L'huile Mascreti aka Castor Oil. I love their products (think Haitian Carols’s Daughter). Today I ask that you please go to Kiva and support these young Haitian entrepreneurs. They launched a crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising $100,000 in order to expand Kreyol Essence operations, create amazing products for us and provide jobs to the Haitian people. As of today, they have raised 96% of the funds on kiva.org/haiti. The time is now we must start supporting Haitian brands who are sustainable, who respects our heritage, who honors our culture, and those who are providing jobs for the Haitian people. Support businesses like @kreyolessence with a loan of $25 or more. These are some of the people who are helping move Haiti forward. This is your chance to make a difference. #progress #thetimeisnow #stopbeingabystander #ourtime #castoroil #lunionfaitlaforce” via @PhotoRepost_app #ayibobo #teamhaiti #teamayiti #supportblackbiz #wealth #ayiti #Haiti #naturalista #naturalhairdoes #curlbox #teamnatural #teamcurly #afro #blackbusiness #igdaily #zoedup #picoftheday

Thinking…..as a community of people we tend to support other communities due to the fact our own people would low-ball/double-cross/ and or provide unacceptable or even no customer service at all. BUT here’s the problem: IF WE…don’t start to fix it somewhere….the complaints will never stop🔴. Young #Haitian #HaitianAmerican professionals are everywhere…friends…even some associates you may have never known come from this little country with the 💛 of a lion….#Haiti #TeamHaiti #ZoeNation #ZoedUp #SakePase #WapKonJorge #Art #Fashion #Music #Executives #Restaurants #Stylists #Producers #Entrepreneurs #PransPozeOu #KompasMusic #HipHopMusic #HustleGang #PhotoOfTheDay #TagAHaitianBusiness #SupportHaitianBusiness #DivaBooStylesNyc

“The Creole Choir of Cuba is a Cuban musical group. Its members are Rogelio Torriente, Fidel Miranda, Teresita Miranda, Marcelo Luis, Dalio Vital, Emilia Diaz Chavez, Yordanka Fajardo, Irian Montejo, Marina Fernandes and Yara Diaz. The group is signed to Peter Gabriel’s record label Real World Records, an artist who also is the founder of WOMAD.

The Creole Choir celebrate the history of theirHaitian descendants enslaved to theCaribbean from West Africa. The Creole Choir’s ten remarkable singers come fromCamagüey, Cuba’s third city, down towards the eastern end of the island. They grew up and studied music in this old colonial town, designated a UNESCO World heritage Site in 2008 for its colonial architecture. They have nurtured music passed down in their families since the early 19th century, gradually adding modern Haitian sounds following their own first visit to a Haitian festival in 1996.

The choir was founded in 1994 during the ‘Special Period’ when the Cuban economy fell into a black hole following the end of theUSSR and of Soviet support for the revolution. Food was short while homes and work places often went dark due to lack of electricity. It was at this difficult time that members of the Professional Choir of Camagüey who were descendants of Haitians, decided to re-forge the resistance songs and laments of their forebears. Led by their Choir Director Emilia Díaz Chávez, Grupo Vocal Desandann, as they are called in Cuba, revived the songs of their ancestors for modern times. Desandann literally means 'descendants’ and as the choir say: "For us music is like food, it feeds the spirit and is a major inspiration for everyday life”.“ Courtesy of Wikipedia #music #roots #Haiti #ayiti #ayibobo #teamhaiti #teamayiti #HaitianPhoenix #zoedup #picoftheday #bestoftheday #artist #Africa #slavery #Cuba #love #knowyourhistory #knowthyself #blackhistory #sakpasse #caribbean #tambou #beats #haitiansbelike

A top underwater explorer says he is certain that he has found the Holy Grail of shipwrecks — Christopher Columbus’ long-lost Santa Maria flagship used in his initial voyage to the New World.

Barry Clifford said he discovered the ship’s remains near the coast of Cap-Haitien in northern Haiti, where the Spanish explorer reported in his journal that it had ran aground on Christmas morning in 1492. Years earlier, Clifford photographed what he now believes to have been a 15th-Century wrought-iron lombard or cannon that has since disappeared.

“There are only seven lombards that have been found in the Western world,” Clifford told the Miami Herald on Tuesday. “We found the eighth, exactly the distance where Columbus said he lost the Santa Maria.”

The Santa Maria ship drifted into a reef and had to be abandoned. Columbus ordered sailors to build a fort nearby in Haiti before sailing the remaining two ships — La Niña and La Pinta — back to Spain to report his findings.

The claim, which still needs to be verified, has its share of skeptics, including another underwater explorer who also believed he had discovered the remains of the Santa Maria while snorkeling in 1987 off Haiti’s northern coast.

“In January 1804, an event of enormous importance shook the world of the slaves and their owners. The black revolutionaries, who had been fighting for a dozen years, crushed Napoleon’s 60,000 men-army - which counted mercenaries from all over Europe - and proclaimed the nation of Haiti (the original Indian name of the island), the SECOND (after USA) independent nation in the Western Hemisphere and the world’s first black-led republic. The impact of this victory of unarmed slaves against their oppressors was felt throughout the slave societies. In Louisiana, it sparked a confrontation at Bayou La Fourche. According to white residents, twelve Haitians from a passing vessel threatened them "with many insulting and menacing expressions” and “spoke of eating human flesh and in general demonstrated great Savageness of character, boasting of what they had seen and done in the horrors of St. Domingo [Saint Domingue].” The slaveholders’ anxieties increased and inspired a new series of statutes to isolate Louisiana from the spread of revolution. The ban on West Indian bondspeople continued and in June 1806 the territorial legislature barred the entry from the French Caribbean of free black males over the age of fourteen. A year later, the prohibition was extended: all free black adult males were excluded, regardless of their nationality. Severe punishments, including enslavement, accompanied the new laws.“ #shookones #Haiti #ayiti #Africa #usa #slavery #Louisiana #knowyourhistory #knowthyself #independence #revolution #webstagram #statigram #instagram #igers #igdaily #teamhaiti #zoedup #zoelyfe #teamzoe #HaitianPhoenix #love #strength #bestoftheday #picoftheday #sakpasse

“A survey signed by the connoisseurs of sunny beaches published by CNN placed Abaka Bay on Ile-a-Vache as the 57th most beautiful beach in the world.

The CNN countdown of World’s 100 Best Beaches said of the bay:

The island of Ile a Vache in Haiti punches above its weight in the beach class division – the eight-by-two-mile island is home to Akaba Bay, boasting some of the best photo ops in the Caribbean. Quality and good value accommodation line the sands.

 Abaka Bay Resort provides great views of the ocean, is one step from the beach and serves a mean conch dinner.” #letsgo #calgontakemeaway #oldmanwinterismean #Haiti #ayiti #ayibobo #teamhaiti #teamayiti #HaitianPhoenix #zoedup #picoftheday #bestoftheday #webstagram #statigram #caribbean #perledesantilles #instagram #igers #igdaily #photooftheday #instalove #instadaily #vacation #namaste #motivation #haititourism #haitiansbelike

“When Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien set about building a cellphone company in Haiti, there was no shortage of skeptics. Six years later O'Brien’s company Digicel is the largest private investor in Haiti and has 4.8 million users, about half the population. It is a rare beacon of entrepreneurship in a country still working on rebuilding after the 2010 earthquake. O'Brien’s ambitious plans for Digicel are part of his bullish vision for Haiti which stands in sharp contrast to the usually gloomy forecasts. Promotion of homegrown entrepreneurship is rare in Haiti, where the government and banks have done little to stimulate investment and a small business elite has traditionally profited from import monopolies that stifle local production.” #digicel #Haiti #ayiti #cellphone #openforbusiness #teamhaiti #teamayiti #HaitianPhoenix#zoedup #zoe #wewillriseagain #love #me #beautiful #instagram #igers #igdaily #bestoftheday #history #caribbean #knowyourhistory #knowthyself #Africa #sakpasse #instagood #instalove #instadaily
