The moon, zodiac, and witchcraft 🌙🔮

As a witch who incorporates a lot of astrology into my craft, I like to pay attention to the movement of the moon through the zodiac belt when doing certain spells.

🌚 Moons in ARIES are good for spells regarding leadership, taking action, and preserving your self interests.

🌚 Moons in TAURUS are good for spells regarding love, material possessions, manifestation, peace, stability, and balancing finances .

🌚 Moons in GEMINI are good for spells regarding communication, intellect, new ideas, and connecting with others.

🌚 Moons in CANCER are good for spells concerning home life, emotions, family, and achieving security.

🌚 Moons in LEO are good for spells regarding self-love, self-reliance, creativity, glamours, and preserving self interests.

🌚 Moons in VIRGO are good for spells regarding health, intellect, memory, trust, and practicality.

🌚 Moons in LIBRA are good for spells regarding balance, justice, love, partnerships, teamwork, and social life.

🌚 Moons in SCORPIO are good for spells regarding passion, secrets, mysteries, confidence, power, sex, self-reliance, and vengeance.

🌚 Moons in SAGITTARIUS are good for spells regarding spirituality, adventure, travel, freedom, fun, and intuition.

🌚 Moons in CAPRICORN are good for spells regarding success, career, ambition, dedication, and authority.

🌚 Moons in AQUARIUS are good for spells regarding individuality, imagination, independence, community, social life, and ‘thinking outside the box’.

🌚 Moons in PISCES are good for spells regarding emotions, compassion, intuition, dreams, astral travel, imagination, and sacrifice.

Happy casting! 💜🌌

aa hi orriculum sent me over to you, im the same anon. i asked them this question: "sorry to bother you but do you have any resources for how moon and the other planets (venus, mars, etc) zodiac signs work? i dont really understand astrology very well but i really want to learn but i dont know where to start exactly. i get the moon moves through the signs faster than the earth, but is there a resource online that tracks and explains it?" i want to start learning astrology but idrk where to start

I’ll use the current moment’s transits to demonstrate.

Pretend that this is your natal chart, and imagine earth (specifically your place of birth) at the very center of it. The signs, planets, and houses surround you, placing their energy upon you, shaping your personality, needs, instincts, talents, challenges, quirks, potential – everything you are. Earth is not included in astrology because it represents you, your position in the universe; it’s based on geocentrism, Ptolemy’s model of the solar system. All astrological phenomena is calculated from our perspective, with earth at the center.

There are three primary components in astrological charts – the Zodiac, the houses, and the planets. The Zodiac is a belt of static, neutral energy along the ecliptic divided into twelve equal parts (signs) whose unique archetypes define different expressions of the human psyche. The houses are twelve mathematical points, also along the ecliptic, that represent all areas of human life and experience. The planets are active bodies of energy which represent various elements of the human psyche. Each of these factors operate independently of each other & orient themselves based on date, time, and the relevant location on earth. They are constantly moving & their perpetual motion is referred to as “transits.” The natal chart is a snapshot of those transits at the moment & place of your birth. Their positions come together to create vibrant, complex illustrations of each individual’s mind, heart, soul, body, and life.

Returning to the first image, if you were born today, you would have your sun (☉) in Gemini (♊) because from our perspective, at this time of year, the sun transits through the section of the 360° belt of the Zodiac that we call Gemini. The sun represents the ego, will, and sense of self; Gemini is an adaptable social sign that values intellect, exploration, and communication. Thus, you are a clever, curious, talkative individual; you assert your role in the world as a learner and a speaker. You wish to share your experience of life with others. You also have your moon in Aries. The moon represents the more instinctive and natural side of your mind, what you learned in childhood, and the core of your emotionality. Aries is a driven self-centric sign that values passion, self-assertion, and taking action. Thus, you tend to have very strong emotions that you typically like to express bravely with force & rawness. You have powerful instincts and can be impulsive as a result. When you bring the houses into the equation, it adds another dimension of intricate psychological depth and shows where & why you express your traits a certain way. Aspects (the angles, or relationships, between planets) bring in even more detail. This is how charts work. The insight your natal chart provides is practically boundless; we’ve barely even scratched the surface of who you are.

Forsaking the Stars ch. 23

Ten years after Weirdmeggedon: After all these years, one would think Mabel would have learned to look with her eyes, not her hands. But what trouble ever came from touching a statue?

“All we have to do is hold hands?” Melody asked, still trying to process all that Mabel had hurriedly explained to the gathered members of the Zodiac, “And this guy is going to disappear?”

Mabel nodded, “Yes, exactly.”

But just as she said that, Bill answered, “NO, NOT DISAPPEAR, THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY.”

Can your rising sign counts as your first house? Because I have scorpio rising and scorpio in twelfth house. BUT it says I have pluto in sagittarius, in house one… Confusing. So.. do I count as scorpio 1st and 12th house? The description goes for both, or..? Your blog is the best source for astrology IMO, thank you!

Thanks, lovely!

Houses are Interesting, because they work slightly different from the Signs and Planets

The Signs are 30º portions of the Zodiacal Belt, where everything in that space is literally “in” that Sign.

So, a Venus in Taurus literally is within the 30º of Taurus.

Houses are slightly different.

A House is “in” a Sign, when its cusp (Cusp = beginning line) falls in a Sign.

However, the Houses vary in Size due to latitude and time of the year, so they are rarely all 30º in size.

This means one house can occupy a small portion of a Sign, or expand to multiple Signs.

(This is when Intercepted and Duplicated House occur)

Similarly, if a House’s Cusp begins in the middle of a Sign, then a Planet can be in House X, but be in the Same Sign as House Y.

Here’s an example (my chart):

The Signs are the big chunks n the middle ring, with the colored Glyphs on them.

The Outer numbered ring represents the Houses.

First, we’ll look at how a House can be in a Sign, a planet can be in that House, but in a different Sign.

If you look over to the Top-Right, you see my Venus, Sun, Lilith, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

A funny thing happens here.

My Seventh House begins in Aquarius - So does the 8th House.

My Moon, Mercury, and Lilith are all in my Eighth House. They’re also all in Pisces - not Aquarius. Saturn is in Aquarius - and the Eighth House.

This is because the Cusp (beginning) of the Eighth House falls at the end of Aquarius.

Second, we’ll look at how you can have two Houses in the same Sign.

My Ascendant is in Leo, which means my First House begins.

My Second House begins in Leo.

So, my Ascendant, 1st House, and 2nd House are all in Leo.

If you look at my chart, you can see how small House 1 is compared to House 12 (also, House 7 compared to House 6).

Because of the small size of the First House, it’s Cusp (beginning) and the Cusp (beginning) of the Second House both fall within the same Sign.

In your Chart

It’s likely that your First House’s Cusp (beginning) and your Twelfth House’s Cusp (beginning) both fell in Scorpio.

Your Pluto is in Sagittarius in the First House, because your First House’s Cusp (beginning) is located towards the beginning of Scorpio, and therefore extends to part of Sagittarius.

To answer your first question:

“Can your rising sign counts as your first house?”

Technically? Yes and no.

Ascendant refers to the degree of the Zodiac that appeared on the Eastern Horizon at the time calculated (Birth time is used for Natal Charts) and is used as the Cusp of the First House. This is often modernly loosely applies to the whole of the Rising Sign and First House, along with the specific degree on the horizon.

So, your Ascendant is literally the degree of the Sign on the Horizon.

So, My Ascendant is 3º 54’ Leo.

My Ascendant Sign is Leo. My Rising Sign is Leo.

My First House is Leo.

While they First House Cusp (beginning) is the Ascendant, the Ascendant and First House have slightly different implications in regards to character.

You can read my articles about them here:

(They’re brief now, but will be updated “soon”)

If you look at the Seventh House, you can see that both the Seventh House Cusp (beginning) and Eighth House Cusp (beginning) are in Aquarius.

So, this chart would have Aquarius and Leo Duplicated (remember, it’s all symmetrical) as well as First and Second Houses, Seventh and Eighth Houses Duplicated.

If you look at the 5th House, you can see how it completely encloses Leo. the Fifth House Cusp (beginning) is in Scorpio, and the Sixth House Cups (beginning) is in Capricorn.

So, this chart would have Gemini and Sagittarius Intercepted (remember, it’s all symmetrical) as well as Fifth and Eleventh Houses Intercepted.

students-unite  asked:

Hey Cherry! Is it true there used to be thirteen signs, jncluding Ophuicus? Or there still is? What's that all about?

Hey

This is a really good explanation:
The zodiac signs are basically 30-degree sections of the zodiacal belt measured along the ecliptic, it is important to remember that in astrology we are almost exclusively dealing with the signs, not with constellations. And the signs of the zodiac are actually very different from constellations.

If someone tells you that there is some mysterious thirteenth sign of the zodiac, remind them, first, that a circle can have only 360 degrees, and second, that each sign occupies 30 degrees of the circle of the ecliptic. So a thirteenth sign of the zodiac makes no more sense than a fifth corner of a square.”
