Quite frankly, I didn’t even want to use you guys, with your dip and velcro and all your gear bullshit. I wanted to drop a bomb. But people didn’t believe in this lead enough to drop a bomb. So they’re using you guys as canaries. And, in theory, if bin Laden isn’t there, you can sneak away and no one will be the wiser. But bin Laden is there. And you’re going to kill him for me.Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

Rant by a Jessica Chastain fan.

So, the SAGs happened. And I have SOME things to say.

HOW ON EARTH DID JESS NOT WIN? I watched Silver Linings Playbook and I wasn’t as amazed as I was with Zero Dark Thirty. For all those of you that are saying Jess didn’t act on ZDT; did you even understand the damn movie? A CIA agent -and specially a woman- (to quote Jess herself) is trained to be unemotional. That kind of acting, in my opinion (and the Critics’ Choice and Golden Globes voters), is harder to achieve and award deserving.

Now, I would not be this mad if Naomi Watts or Marion Cotillard won simply becuase it’s Naomi Watts and Marion Cotillard. But to be honest, yes, Jennifer Lawrence’s acting on SLP is awesome but I don’t think it’s award worthy. Even less when your competition are these amazing ladies - AND DAME HELEN MIRREN!

Hollywood’s problem though, is they can’t take a woman that is not defined by her male love interest, or in general anything related with men and love. Cause let’s be honest HOLLYWOOD, times have changed and us women are not like that anymore. We can stand on our own and do things like Maya from Zero Dark Thirty did. This male-driven, love-drama world that we live in is so absurd. I’m very tired of that. And I’m glad a movie like Zero Dark Thirty came out to prove just that. -and HELLO! It’s Kathryn Bigelow directing. Only one of the most awesome directors out there. And since Hollywood is so shocked let’s put this out there: “AND! SHE’S A WOMAN!” No kidding.

On to the stupid controversy that may have taken away some votes from Jess. HOW MANY TIMES DO PEOPLE HAVE TO ASK IF THE MOVIE IS PRO-TORTURE? Come on. If the torture wasn’t included, the talk would be “Oh, they’re white-trashing history. This is a propaganda movie.” But since they put it there, the talk is Kathryn Bigelow and her team are pro-torture. LISTEN TO YOURSELVES! So you rather have a movie lie and leave the bad things covered? Torture is part of US history. Accept it, it’s on the media!

To finish up, Jess prep for the movie. DID YOU SAG VOTERS EVEN WATCHED SOME OF HER INTERVIEW? All she went through? The 3 months she prepared before she started shooting? Learning all the arabic names? Defining the arch of the character because her changes are subtle? (you “actors”-voters probably know what that is? right?) Making a booklet of Maya’s life, making up the details -staying true to Maya- INVESTIGATION couldn’t provide her? Then the shooting? In freaking India and Jordan? How she didn’t get a menu at a restaurant and her co-stars had to order for her? How she went to shoot in a prision and the guards made her get out of the car just to see a woman walking by? Crying after hard scenes because she couldn’t cry DURING the actual scenes? NO? THAT’S NOT AWARD WORTHY?

Well, if that isn’t, then WHAT IS? Playing a victim of a male character ONCE AGAIN? No, SAGs & Hollywood. Enough of that.

I’m proud of you Jessica, Kathryn, Mark and the entire cast. You guys stayed true to yourselves and killed it.

Here’s to hoping The Academy has smarter voters.
