zayn malik is not a terrorist

Zayn Malik confession

Zayn fat shamed his ex producer, RT’d a tweet fat shaming a random girl, cheated on his ex-fiance at least 4 times and blamed her for his affairs, waited till she was in another country before texting her to break up with her after four years claiming he wanted a ‘fresh start’, forced her out on the streets and since she has several pets she couldn’t stay in a hotel or room with friends so she had to live in a Modest co-owners guest cottage, he lied about all this claiming he ‘had to much respect for her’ until she exposed him, several of his ex girlfriends have exposed him for cheating on them, said the N word and instead of apologizing just had his team remove the video from online, has done many cultural appropriating things, said black people aren’t victims of police brutality, supports All Lives Matter, used a black women in his PillowTalk music video as a nude tribal prop, has made many misogynistic comments, diminished Bob Marley and Jamaica to just ‘weed culture’, defended his girlfriend after a video came out of her mocking east Asians by making a sex joke, liked a tweet bragging about how she gets to ‘play with his dick every night’, and has done so much more disgusting, ignorant, problematic things. And his equally as problematic and disgusting stans defend all this by saying he has depression/anxiety, is Muslim and called a terrorist, and blames Perrie, the other LM members, 1D, and others for his behavior.

Why do people call Zayn Malik a terrorist? He isn’t!! Just appreciate the things he’s doing for charity or anything else! He’s trying to help as many people as possible, goes to Africa with the boys.. Zayn’s just doing so so many things. Why do you still have to call him this stupid name? And why the heck do people create a video on YouTube? I mean, c'mon guys, that’s disgusting!! Just wanted to explain you stupid haters that you’re doing this for nothing. We’ll always support and love Zayn! Helpful, honest, absolutely incredible, awesome, beautiful, stunning, a great singer, literally PERFECT! That’s what he is! Not a terrorist. Get a life, jealous haters!

Zayn thinks he can’t be a racist because he is a poc? Minorities can be racist. Literally why the whole concept of internalized racism exists. Minorities can perpetue negative stigmas of other cultures. Some POC are extremely hurtful in their comments specially those non-black people of color who faces a privilege due their skin tone that black people don’t have, it’s called colorism.

Zayn as Muslim and Pakistani gets called a terrorist so I don’t see how defending your girlfriend’s racist behavior helps the argument.

Everyone needs to be educated and the fact he feels like he gets a free pass at being called out because he is a poc is ignorant.

When Normani received 1 racist tweet of her face being photoshopped over pic of a Black woman being hanged ..all the 5h girls released statements voicing their disgust. Yet here we have Zayn enduring 9/11 music aimed. @ him, having news anchors & far-right journalists calling him a terrorist ON T.V., ot4 stans turning up in concerts with islamophobic “die zayn terrorist” signs…and NOTHING NOT A SINGLE MOTHERFUCKING WORD FROM HIS BANDMATES. So excuse me Mr Harry Styles if I don’t buy ur “I wish I’d known Zayn suffered from an eating disorder so i could help” bullshit. Had you known you’d have done what you did for 5 years when it comes to Zayn, turn a blind eye

As leading artists and executives in the music industry, we are adding our voices to the chorus of Americans demanding change.

Music always has been celebrated communally, on dancefloors and at concert halls. But this life-affirming ritual, like so many other daily experiences—going to school or church or work—now is threatened, because of gun violence in this country.

The one thing that connects the recent tragedies in Orlando is that it is far too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on guns.

We call on Congress to do more to prevent the gun violence that kills more than 90 Americans every day and injures hundreds more, including:

Require a background check for every gun sale

Block suspected terrorists from buying guns

Billboard and the undersigned implore you—the people who are elected to represent us—to close the deadly loopholes that put the lives of so many music fans, and all of us, at risk.

The Daily Show comes out with a skit about choosing one member from Hamas, Al Nusra, ISIS, Al Qaeda and One Direction and creating a new terrorist group and rightfully, there has been an onslaught of backlash at the racist implications, given that Zayn Malik (clearly the person they’re targeting, there is absolutely no way to get around that) is not only a Pakistani Muslim, but he’s also been vocal about the heinous Islamophobia he’s been subjected to.

First and foremost, even with One Direction taken out of the element, its immensely harmful and racist to list the four groups alongside one another by the virtue of them being Muslim and employing physical action, particularly Hamas. Hamas can never be comparable with the likes of ISIS and Al Qaeda. Hamas is a chosen parliament who has actually rallied for the Palestinian cause. Hamas isn’t perfect, there’s no getting around their flaws, but to suggest that they wreak havoc on Palestinians (or even Israeli settlers) in any realm that ISIS do in Syria or Iraq and to erase the component of Israel’s prolonged occupation and apartheid policies against Palestine is disingenuous and a dismissal of resistance as a concept.

Its interesting to see how big name liberal publications have phrased and presented this story; irrational teeny boppers who have let their unyielding love for Malik clout their perspective, and even worse, their ability to laugh and make light of legitimate forms of prejudice.

Aside from the pervading misogyny and infantilization of young women (who apparently can’t make decisions that aren’t spurred by kneejerk emotional reactions), the insinuation does not present the political perils of being Muslim (or perceived as such) post 9/11, particularly in light of the hysteria surrounding ISIS. I suppose for clarity, it should be made known that I’m no particular fan of One Direction, but I am a Muslim, so I empathize with Zayn Malik on his experiences, this being one of them.

To suggest that Zayn Malik, due to his Pakistani heritage and faith as a Muslim, is a terrorist is not a laughing matter or comedic gesture to shrug off. These presumptions have escalated social exclusion, hardships in the job market and even physical violence against Muslims. Its allowed imperial powers to instill fear prompted propaganda and wage illegitimate wars, resulting in mass deaths and economical damage against Muslim majority regions. Its paved the way for government profiling, tapping of phones and installation of informants and spies in religious spaces (all of which are violations of human rights) against Muslims.

Liberals, such as Jon Stewart, his cohorts and fanbase want to get away with this sort of humor. In fact, that’s what satirizing means to them, to be able to take the role of racist and contort it in a way that it no longer proves damaging. But with Islamophobia, we don’t live in a society in which that doesn’t come with grave impacts, so racism of any kind is nullified as progress and serves only as a normalization and preservation of the status quo in which Muslim identity is maligned and degraded.

What if on the 1st of April, The boys say that it was all a joke?

What if, four days from now, the boys say that it just an experiment to show us how much we all need to unite?

What if, in the future we wake up and we know as a fandom that after this ordeal, nothing in the world can break us? Isn’t this as big as it gets?

What if one day, we appreciate the boys more, respect their decisions more, appreciate the lifestyle more?

What if one day we can all just excuse them for making mistakes? We don’t have to be like this. It doesn’t have to be like this. We don’t have to analyze a picture or a tweet or a quote from an interview or a video or an article or a rumor?

What if everything didn’t have to be about analysis? What if Ziam wasn’t analyzed, what if zerrie is actually a real thing, what if Zayn Malik was just a normal guy who didn’t have to deal with being called a terrorist?

Have you seen his weight loss? He is literally a walking paradox, a skeleton will shadows under his eyes, singing lively high notes. I know we’ll all be saying it was drugs or whatever but it’s our fault and it’s the media’s fault and it’s management’s fault because we all want to monopolize the lives of five excellent boys who just want to live.

Needless to say, this is all our fault. We don’t know when to stop. We don’t know anything they have to go through because we’ve never been scrutinized by ONE WHOLE WORLD! We keep analyzing and we keep dividing ourselves like how many bases are there in this fandom?

I know this is real. I am heartbroken like so many of you. But it’s the consequences of our actions.

And I know that tomorrow I’m waking up and realizing that there is no more thing 5, only thing 4.

I hope no fandom has to experience what we have.

Thank you zayn, for putting yourself first. Thank you for you courage to make a decision that will sadden the hearts of those who love you, but will seek the interest of your well-being. Thank you for showing us that it’s alright to put your mental health before anything or anyone else.

Thank you for everything.
We love you. Always.

Um, so… The Daily Show mentioned One Direction again… this time in a joke about new terrorist groups.

“Just as you were talking, a new terrorist group formed, with one member each from ISIS, Al-Nusra, Al Qaeda, Hamas, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel.”

I’d love to give The Daily Show, Jon Stewart and Jessica Williams the benefit of the doubt and say they were making a non-specific boybands-have-a-lot-of-members-joke and not a targeted, Muslims-are-terrorists-and-Zayn-in-particular joke, but this still made me really uncomfortable.
