Game of Thrones Direwolf Bread

Yields 3 small loaves

The things you’ll need

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ stick butter, cubed and ice cold
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Zester
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp knife
  • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  • Egg wash

Let’s get Started!

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl mix the flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt.
  3. Add the butter and mix until the dough is dry and crumbly.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg and orange zest. Then mix into the dry ingredients while on low speed.
  5. Remove dough from the bowl and knead for 2 minutes.
  6. Place dough back into bowl, cover and let rest for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Roll out dough and cut into desired shape, place onto baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with egg wash.
  8. Bake 30 minutes or until golden-brown.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cook slightly, then serve.

Orange and Chocolate Muffins


  • ¾ cup sugar
  • zest from 1,5 oranges
  • 1,5 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 75g butter, melted
  • 100ml fresh orange juice
  • 100ml milk
  • 100g milk chocolate, chopped


Preheat the oven to 170°C. In a mixing bowl, toss sugar and orange zest together, then add flour, baking powder, cinnamon and a pinch of salt and mix to combine. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs with melted butter, then pour in orange juice and milk and mix until fully combined. Add wet ingredients to the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, then add chopped milk chocolate and mix gently - do not overmix, the batter should be slightly lumpy.

Spoon out the batter evenly into the muffin cases lined with liner papers. Bake for 15 minutes or until skewer inserted in the middle of a muffin comes out clean.
