“It’s delicious… Hiei.”

The 13th of November, 1942:

Alongside Kirishima, Hiei engaged allied vessels during the Battle of Guadalcanal. She sustained heavy damage during the engagement. Her sister ship tried to tow her to safety, but the rudders were jammed due to the damage and flooding of her steering compartment. The order was given to abandon ship, and Hiei was scuttled on the evening of the 14th by Yukikaze, with 188 sailors failing to get away on time. It’s not confirmed, but some naval historians say the order to scuttle was rescinded five minutes after Hiei had already sunk.
