your age is showing

anonymous asked:

I'm 14 going on 15 and I hate how so many people who take a character that was just my age, and make creepy art and fic about him. I'm about to turn his current age and have been propositioned since I was 11 and was always told that adults who try things like that are perverts. So why is it when a bunch of 20 somethings pushing a teen who is around my age into a sexual relationship with an adult and do explicit crap, it's not perverted and gross? What about the teens who are feeling sexualized?

First off, thanks for writing me and being polite in your message.

The first thing I want to address is this: you should never be made to feel sexualized. Unless it’s with someone you want to be sexual with, like a crush of yours. Even with someone you consider a crush, if you don’t want to feel that way and don’t want to do anything that can be considered sexual (be it even a kiss), you should never feel forced. This is not just now because you’re a teen, this is something that all of us go through and need to keep in mind even in our 20s, 30s and so on.

I’m so sorry that you feel that way in real life because some adults are absolutely disgusting. They are. Adults that prey on children are absolutely disgusting and horrifying and you should call them out, tell your parents or your teachers or the police. I’m not kidding here. I know it’s hard and you might feel like you’re going to be made fun of, or that they won’t believe you, or that they will side with the adult, or that will belittle you and tell you it’s not a big deal. If you tell someone you trust, they won’t do all those things. Go with your guts. Tell, even if someone only threw nasty words at you or catcalled you (and I really hope you never went through anything heavier than that). In those cases there won’t be much that you can do, but telling someone will help.

What I can tell from your message, is that you (subconsciously or not) equate sex with generally being nasty and perverted. This will probably be unnecessary, but I’ll say it anyway: sex is not inherently gross or disgusting or creepy. If you feel that it is, then it means you’re not ready to enter a sexual relationship, and that’s perfectly fine and normal. I won’t tell you that that’s only because of your age, because some people never (or very rarely) show any interest in sex (it’s called asexuality and it falls under the LGBT+ spectrum). Whether you do end up growing to want sex or not doesn’t matter here.

What matters is that now you clearly don’t want to see sex and anything to do with it in your fandom experience and that’s fine. Tumblr offers you ways to make your experience better and show you only the content you want to see. Block any nsfw tag. Don’t follow blogs whose description clearly states that they post nsfw (like mine). Tumblr is a big and scary place if you just take everything it throws at you (be it ship hate, nsfw stuff, etc). The thing with it is that it can’t cater to everyone’s tastes, so you have to be active about blocking the stuff that YOU don’t want to see. Other 14-going-on-15 year olds might be okay seeing nsfw fanart and posts and that will be their Tumblr experience, but you should definitely take measures to protect yourself from what you don’t want to see.

Now, the thing about Otayuri is that no matter how you twist it, it’s not illegal to ship it, even in a sexual way. You should definitely read this post about it, because the thing is, as much as we can project our feelings and real-world stuff into anime characters, they’re not real.

I assure you that if Yuri on Ice was a flesh and bone show things would be different. I don’t really watch any current TV shows with teens in them so I can’t speak for what other fandoms do with their ship, whether they’re sexualized or not. I can only speak for this silly and amazing anime that’s been consuming my life for the past seven months or so.

Anime and cartoon characters are a safe way to explore things about real life. Whether it be sex or depression or anxiety or simply falling in love, we can all identify with an anime character and see our flaws, our fears and our history in them.

The thing you have to remember is that we (I’m speaking for the slightly older part of the fandom since I’m in my twenties) have been Yuri’s age. We’ve very likely had crushes on boys or girls that were a bit younger, our age or slightly older (like Otabek is). So I think for most of us, shipping Otayuri is a way to remember what it feels like to be a teen and be in love/have a huge crush. We will never be that age again, and maybe there’s things we regret not doing, crushes we wish we had confessed. By shipping Otayuri in an active way (meaning: drawing fanart or writing fanfiction) we can explore things we experienced as teens (or wish we had) and pour a little bit of ourselves in Yuri’s (or Otabek’s) character.

Those things might involve anything from simple fluff or rough sex, because, accept it or not, some people at 15 or 16 were (are) having sex of all kinds. Sweet, loving, rough, vanilla, kinky, you-name-it sex. So not to explore that aspect in a healthy way (through fics or fanart) would be lying about what reality is, it would be denying that we ever thought about or had sex at that age.

Much like with blocking tumblr content, you can choose what kinds of fanfiction you read. Only read General and Teen and Up tagged things, read about fluff and about falling in love in a sweet innocent way. Read anything tagged “Ace!Yuri” (it means asexual, the thing I was telling you about before).

But please understand this: when we sexualize Yuri, we’re mostly sexualizing our (often past) selves. Not other teens, not other real-life people. Yuri doesn’t exist in real life, and many of us see bits and pieces of ourselves in him. When we write about him we really write about ourselves, be it because we want to see how we (maybe a little sassier and bitchier version of us) would have confessed a crush to our best friend, or would have handled the aftermath of having just shoved our gloved fingers in said best friend’s mouth in front of thousands of people. Fanfiction is a study about versions of ourselves that never existed, but might as well have.

Another thing I need to make clear: Otabek is not an adult. I assure you that the morning of your 18th birthday you won’t feel like an adult. You’ll feel like the you from yesterday and it will be anticlimactic af, you’ll be like “That’s it?” and yeah, it will be it. Just because the law in some country or state says that 18 is the age of consent (which is set to 16 or 14 years old in many other countries) it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically an adult at that age. You can be 18 and have had sex since you were 14. You can be 18 and completely uninterested in sex. You can be 18 and have a 15 year old mental age, or you can be 16 and be mentally more mature than some 20 year olds.

What canon has shown us, is that Yuri and Otabek are much closer to each other’s mental age than the 2 years + a few months difference they share. I encourage you to find posts about why there’s no power imbalance between Yuri and Otabek, because they compete in the same sport and they have had similar experiences in life.

In conclusion, if you feel irked about nsfw fanart and fanfics and discussions when it comes to this particular ship, please don’t read it/watch it. But what I can assure you is that none of us are trying to sexualize you or your peers. When we sexualize pixels on a screen we don’t see those pixels as a flesh and bone version of a human, we only see an idealized character whose age we are or have been and whose personality and experiences we want to safely explore.

Also really important: when we write/draw NSFW, we don’t write/draw it for teens to read. I repeat: WE DON’T CREATE NSFW CONTENT FOR TEENS. We’re not your parents or guardians, we write NSFW for whoever feels like they can handle seeing nsfw content. If you’re a teen that goes on the nsfw tag and then complains about it (I’m not saying that’s what you did here, I’m speaking generally), it’s only your fault for going in a tag that you weren’t comfortable to begin with.

TL;DR:

  • Speak up if you feel sexualized IRL in a way you don’t like;
  • Learn how to use tumblr safely, block tags, understand that tumblr doesn’t do those things for you. Make your fandom experience exactly the one you want to see;
  • Don’t trust adults who tell you this ship is somehow illegal: it’s not;
  • Understand what’s behind fiction and fanfiction as a way we have to explore real life things (often too personal to write about as ourselves, so we project those things in characters we like);
  • Understand that adulthood is not something that happens from one day to another;
  • Learn to discern what content is meant to be consumed by a teen and what content isn’t;
  • Be safe.

HTTYD RTTE is NOT just for kids! No, it’s BEYOND that. It has so much potential in its writing, its animation, and its characters! Really, it’s better than a lot of other live action movies/TV shows I’ve seen. No, it’s ALL AGES TV! No one should feel judged watching this “kids’” TV show. Because it’s not just for kids! :D It’s a great show for young/older adults too!

(and Hiccup and Astrid and Toothless’s faces just so happen to match up with my reaction to the age group, haha)

  • ot*yuri shippers: reaching a certain age doesn't instantly make you an actual adult!! otabek just turned 18 and it didn't automatically make him mature a ton
  • also ot*yuri shippers: lol yuri's 16 aka he's an adult in his country so it's legal :)
Soulmate AU (Woozi)

Fluff, but not quite the happy-go-lucky kind. At the age of 17, a tracker appears on your inner wrist, showing the distance between you and your soulmate. For many it’s an enjoyable adventure to find their soulmate, but for Lee Jihoon it’s only a source of uneasiness to see that the distance shown on his wrist continues decreasing.

A/N: … I’m pretty sure this was requested as fluff and this is not perfectly fluffy bUT this is how it turned out and I hope you all like it! and as you can see from the note below, I can’t seem to write anything short these days.

“Look, like I’ve told you, I don’t want to find my soulmate.”

Soonyoung looked at one of his closest friends, Jihoon, with wide eyes, and the others in their group could see him become smaller at Jihoon’s outburst.

“W-why not? Don’t you want to know what it feels like to be with the person you’re destined to be with?” Soonyoung asked, stuttering a little; for someone so harmless-looking, Jihoon had quite likely the scariest aura he had ever encountered when he was upset.

Everyone aimed their expectant eyes to Jihoon, who merely shrugged, visibly annoyed. “I have better things to do. If I meet them, I suppose I’ll take it, but I’m not fond of finding them.”

At that, Joshua pouted a little. “Doesn’t it mean anything that it’s highly likely that there’s someone out there, searching for no one but you?”

I'm going to be crystal clear to you, Voltron fandom

The production team and creators of Voltron are actual adults with actual lives. They aren’t going to listen to some whiny children on Tumblr. They’re not going to take your word for it and reveal all their information just for your shippings/pairings. It’s absolutely stupid and unnecessary.

Voltron: Legendary Defender is about five heroes defending the galaxy against an evil empire ran by a fictional alien species. Do you really think they’ll focus 100% on ships and age just for your pleasure? No. That’s not what this show is about. This show doesn’t revolve around romance. And even though there is nothing particularly wrong with shipping, you can’t just expect this show to center around everything romantic. There are certain shows/movies for that.

You can’t be biased on the story/writing either. The writers CAN write. Just because they’re not listening to your whining, it doesn’t mean the content is poorly written. That’s not how it works!

Criticizing the pacing, characterizations, and screentime = good criticism
Whining about your ship being irrelevant = bad criticism

TRY to be mature about it. What do you get out of telling the writers to kill themselves? To telling people who don’t agree with you to kill themselves? To insult the show even though you claim to be a fan over a ship? If that were the case, you were NEVER a fan in the first place. You NEVER cared about this show in the first place. You complain, complain, and complain with such poor basis and articulation and that’s tiring.

Disliking and disagreeing with something is one thing. Arguing, whining and cursing over something so insignificant is another.

A reminder

Headcanon =/= canon

It doesn’t matter how widespread a headcanon is, if it’s not canon don’t treat it as such to the point where you’re enforcing your headcanon on other people

Current Skin Care Routine -- Trend Korea

I gotta admit, as an American, I have been very lazy with my skin. About a few years ago, using a little bar soap and rubbing it around on my face in the shower seemed liked plenty — i was young, didn’t get breakouts that often, and who really has the time??? Once I reached my twenties and I started getting more into makeup, I started realizing that taking care of my skin was going to be really important if I wanted my makeup to look good. Why put layers of heavy foundation on if you don’t have to? I was noticing that my skin looked overly dry and I was getting more breakouts. When I researched American skin care, the information was overwhelming, but so was the price. I wanted to go beyond stripping toners and greasy moisturizer and I didn’t want it to cost me hundreds of dollars.

Once I started getting more into k-dramas, I became more aware of the Korean skin care craze, and it interested me. While a few years ago, cleanser and moisturizer seemed more like a chore, I now incorporate anywhere from 4 to 10 steps in my skin care routine. While I don’t always want to do it, I know that taking care of my 30-year old skin will be worth it in the long run. I’m not afraid of getting older, but I’m also not rushing to make it come faster either!

Here is what I’m currently doing and am starting to notice a difference in my skin – I am constantly changing it around, but I try to keep the routine as consistent as I can.

Skin Type — Dry – Normal

Morning

1. CLEANSER: In the shower I use a foaming wash, currently Mizon Snail Repair Foam Cleanser, which doesn’t help me when I am having an acne moment, but cleans my skin very nicely. 1-2 times a week I will use an acne treatment cleanser, just to prevent breakouts. Right now, I’m using The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash. I don’t like using an acne cleanser every day, because it starts to overdry my skin. My skin is dry naturally, so I try to prevent it from being overdry.

2. TONER: Once I shower, I pat my face dry (don’t rub) and spritz on a little Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. It’s not a traditional toner, but its a nice pick-me-up while I’m waiting for my current toner in the mail. American toners are very drying, but korean toners are much more moisturizing. Mario Badescu does well in a pinch, but once that is gone, I will be using the Scinic All Day Fine Pore Toner that I get with my subscription to Beauteque. Beauteque is monthly Korean subscription service bag that caters to skincare and makeup products. I’m really enjoying the service currently.

3. AMPOULE: I don’t have an essence currently, but before any serum I’ve been using the Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule. This is a completely new product to me, as I had never even heard of a ampoule. The steps that come between cleanser and moisturizer are meant to treat the skin’s problem areas, and for me I am concerned with dry dehydrated skin and hyper pigmentation. The ampoule is meant to help with that.

4. SERUM: My travel serum just ran out, but I’m waiting to try a new serum, Artnaturals Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid which will help with the hyper pigmentation in my skin. Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are supposed to be great for your skin and I have had a lot of success with serums in the past. Both the ampoule and the serum are meant to be patted into the skin and I try to avoid rubbing as much as I possibly can.

5. EYE CREAM: Right now, I am using a generic avocado eye cream but once that is used up, I will use the Missha Super Aqua Relief Eye Cream, morning and night. This is probably one of the most important steps to me currently, as the eyes are the driest part of your face, and therefore the quickest to show signs of aging.

6. MOISTURIZER: I’m finishing a Ponds Moisturizing Lotion right now, but as soon as it arrives, I will be using the Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel. As I said before, I suffer from dry and dehydrated skin (particularly in the winter) so something really soothing and moisturizing is really good for me. Aloe Vera also calms redness, which I can get around my nose and forehead. This is also often called emulsion – they are pretty much the same thing.

7. SUNSCREEN: The final step is one that I have been the most spotty about in my skin care. I currently use the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen before I apply my makeup primer, and I’m liking it just fine. I get so little exposure to the sun and I have been too lazy to use sunscreen since I was a child. I have medium-light toned middle eastern skin and I don’t burn in the sun very easily. The more I research, the more I understand that it doesn’t really matter how little sun I get, my skin needs to be protected from it. Excess sun exposure (especially gone unprotected) will only speed up the wrinkle formation and dehydrate your skin. The one I use isn’t greasy at all, so that is a plus for such an inexpensive sun screen.

Night

At night, I add a few steps and focus a lot on brightening and moisturizing.

8. SHEET MASK: 2-3 times a week, after my serum, I will use a sheet mask. These are very inexpensive and are a great way to provide concentrated essence to your skin, targeting specific concerns. A great option, and one I am currently trying, is to use Beauteque’s Mask Maven subscription. For about 15 bucks a month, they send you 10-12 masks to try from many brands targeting a lot of different areas. It is so worth the money for me and I like having the opportunity to pamper my skin after a long day. I just pop one and watch youtube or a drama and just chill.

9. EXFOLIATE: Once or twice a week, I will exfoliate my skin using a wash cloth, but I will be starting to use Skinfood’s Pineapple Morning Peeling Gel to get rid of the dead skin on my face. A peeling gel is a gentler way to exfoliate your skin, and is something I have never really used. This is a step I have been more willing to skip, but I’ve really been trying to not neglect exfoliation, as I don’t want to apply great moisture to my skin if it’s just lying on top of dead cells.

10. SLEEPING PACK: Almost every night, I will use a sleeping pack, which helps to moisturize my skin while sleeping. Currently, I am using Scinic’s Collagen Jelly Cream, a Japanese Sleeping Pack with Hyaluronic Acid, and Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask. I always wake up with incredibly soft skin, which for this dry skinned girl, is a dream.

I know it seems like a lot, but honestly, I really like how I feel after taking care of my skin. You can customize these steps to your own routine and needs, but don’t wait until you’re skin is in bad shape to start – start when your young, and your skin is able to bounce back quickly.

Below I will put a list of affordable skin care lines I’ve found and some youtube channels to watch if you’re interested in this process at all. I’ve really stepped up my game and I hope you do too. You deserve it!

How...how do you draw mouths the way that you do??! They're always so expressive and just plain pretty to look at. Please teach us more of your awesome ways *bows humbly*

Ohhh gosh, thank you! I’m glad you like em! I actually don’t do anything too special, but here’s a few tips!

The first thing I focus on is the top lip. The more you focus on the curve, the more variation and form it’s given.

Then, I focus on the lip shape in general. The top lip is actually “darker” than the bottom, because it’s in shadow.

It’s better illustrated in color, and it makes seeing form in it easier and clearer.

Another big aspect I rely on and love to utilize is the gums. Gums are great for giving a very real, tangible, finite look to the teeth, rather than have them stretch endlessly in the mouth. Again, use curves!

Another big thing with the gums, is knowing where the’re at. Think of how the jaw is lowered and raised, rather than the top, which remains static. For the top though, the lip itself can reveal the gums, when stretched.

When expressing emotion, (and I know I bring this up a LOT) exaggerate! Pull the corners back far, show the gums, show the bottom row, move the tongue! Again, use curves! Never keep too static a line, especially in the top lip.

And finally, wrinkles! Use the surrounding skin and flesh I to your advantage! Pull it for age and expression, compress it to show youth, (typically).

Thank you again, and I really hope this helps! <3
