your ability to see hope and good in this world is a strength that many lose

God and The Twelve Signs

And it was morning as God stood before his twelve children and into each of them planted the seed of human life. One by one each child stepped forward to receive his appointed gift.

To you Aries I give the seed first that you might have the honor of planting it. That for every seed you plant one million more will multiply in your hand. You will not have time to see the seed grow, for everything you plant creates more that must be planted. You will be the first to penetrate the soil of people’s minds with My Idea. But it is not your job to nourish the Idea, nor to question it. Your life is action, and the only action I ascribe to you is to begin making men aware of My Creation. For your good work I give you the virtue of Self-Esteem.

…. Quietly Aries stepped back to his place.

To you Taurus I give the power to build the seed into substance. Your job is a great one requiring patience, for you must finish all that has been started, or the seeds will be wasted to the wind. You are not to question nor change your mind in the middle, nor to depend on others for what I ask you to do. For this I give you the gift of Strength. Use it wisely.

…. And Taurus stepped back into place.

To you Gemini I give the questions without the answers, so that you may bring to all an understanding of what people see around them. You will never know why people speak or listen, but in your quest for the answer you will find my gift of Knowledge.

…. And Gemini stepped back into place.

To you Cancer I ascribe the task of teaching people about emotion. My Idea is for you to cause them laughter and tears so that all they see and think develops fullness from inside. For this I give you the gift of Family that your fullness

…. And Cancer stepped back to his place.

To you Leo I give the job of displaying my Creation in all its brilliance to the world. But you must be careful of pride and always remember that it is My Creation, not yours. For if you forget this, people will scorn you. There is much joy in the job I give you if you but do it well. For this you are to have the gift of Honor.

…. And Leo stepped back to his place.

To you Virgo I ask for an examination of all that humankind has done with my Creation. You are to scrutinize their ways sharply and remind them of their errors, so that through them my Creation may be perfected. For doing this I give you the gift of Purity of Thought.

…. And Virgo stepped back to his place.

To you Libra I give the mission of service, that humans will be mindful of their duties to others. That they may learn cooperation, as well as the ability to reflect on the other side of their actions. I will put you everywhere there is discord, and for your efforts I will give you the gift of Love.

…. And Libra stepped back in place.

To you Scorpio I give a very difficult task. You will have the ability to know the minds of the other people, but I do not permit you to speak about what you learn. Many times you will be pained by what you see, and in your pain you will turn away from Me and forget that it is not I, but the perversion of My Idea, that is causing your pain. You will see so much of humankind that you will come to know them as animals, and will wrestle so much with the animal instincts in yourself that you will lose your way; but when you finally come back to Me, Scorpio, I have for you the supreme gift of Purpose.

…. And Scorpio stepped back.

To Sagittarius I ask that you make people laugh, for amidst their misunderstanding of My Idea they become bitter. Through laughter you are to give people hope, and through hope turn their eyes back to Me. You will touch many lives if but for a moment, and you will know the restlessness in every life you touch. To you Sagittarius I give the gift of Infinite Abundance that you may spread wide enough to reach every corner of darkness and bring it Light.

…. And Sagittarius stepped back into place.

To you Capricorn I ask the toil of your brow, that you might teach people to work. Your task is not an easy one, for you will feel all of humankind’s labors on your shoulders; but the yoke of your burdens contains the Responsibility of your Brothers and Sisters, which I put into your hands.

…. And Capricorn stepped back into place.

To you Aquarius give the concept of the future that people might see other possibilities. You will have the pain of loneliness, for I do not allow you to personalize My Love. But for turning people’s eyes to new possibilities I give the gift of Freedom that in your liberty you may continue to serve humankind wherever they need you.

…. And Aquarius stepped back into place.

To you Pisces I give the most difficult task of all. I ask you to collect all the world’s sorrows and return them to Me. Your tears are to be ultimately My Tears. The sorrow you will absorb is the effect of people’s misunderstanding of My Idea, but you are to give them compassion that they may try again. For this the most difficult task of all, I give you the greatest gift of all. You will be the only one of my twelve Children to understand Me. This gift of Understanding is for you, Pisces, for when you try to spread it to humankind they will not listen.

…. And Pisces stepped back into place.

And the children left, each determined to do his job best that he might to receive his gift. But none fully understood his task or his gift, and when they returned puzzled God said, “You each believe that the other gifts are better. Therefore I will allow you to trade.” And for the moment each child was elated as he considered all the possibilities of his new mission. But God smiled as he said, “You will return to me many times asking to be relieved of your mission, and each time I will grant your wish. You will go through countless incarnations before you complete the original mission I have prescribed for you. I give you countless time in which to do it, but only when it is done can you be with Me.”

Longing doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling. It’s going to be a torturous five years, but Clarke is nothing if not stubborn and she’s definitely not one to back down from a challenge. She opens to the next page of the notebook and writes it down - 1825.

creatures-of-narrative  asked:

How did Single Dad sid meet Famous Hockey Player Geno, anyway? Oh man, was it through the little penguins program? Or at a signing at a sporting goods store? Sid saved so carefully so little Avery could have have some gear (he wants to skate so, so bad) and finally he has enough and also a day off that he can take Avery in to have his tiny skates fitted. When he gets to the store there are people everywhere, and Evgeni Malkin is doing a signing and Avery is just starry eyed (1/2)

(2/2) when they get to the table where Geno is wearing out Sharpies, Avery can barely see over it but he hands Geno one of his new skates and solemnly informs him that if he signs it it’ll be lucky and maybe he’ll skate “super fast” just like Geno. And before Sidney can stop him Avery tells Geno how his dad saved and saved and how awesome his dad is and Geno is so charmed and he looks up to smile politely at the great dad of this adorable child and nearly chokes on his own tongue b/c PRETTY

-

(“You looking at the DILF over there, G?” Flower whispers.

“What?” Geno furrows his brows. “Not know word.”

Flower whispers it in his ear, and Geno pushes him away with an outraged expression. “Go away, Flower.”)

And there’s a bunch of silly scenes and Geno taking Sidney out to way too expensive restaurants and REALLY emo h/c misunderstandings about money like:

“I don’t want you to keep doing this!” Sidney whisper-yells at him, because Avery is sleeping in his room. “You’re not–I know I don’t have a lot of money, but you don’t have to buy me a car, or–or keep planning these expensive trips to fucking Aruba or something–”

“Is just Orlando,” Geno argues back, equally quiet. “Take you and Avery to Disneyworld. I promise him if good grades, then is surprise.”

“You’re not my fucking sugar daddy, G,” Sidney spits out helplessly. “I don’t need your charity.”

Charity?” Geno echoes. “Sid, is not charity. I have money. I’m not pretend money not exist. I want to spend it on people I love. And I’m love you and Avery, want the best for you. Want you safe and happy.”

Sidney looks taken aback at the sudden declaration, then waves his hands. “I just–it’s too much. This is probably selfish of me to think, but–but I can’t deal with the fallout when you get tired of us and just–leave.”

“Leave? I’m leave? Why I’m fucking ever do that?”

Sidney’s eyes are very bright with unshed tears. “Geno, please understand. I’m not saying this to be an ass. I’m being realistic.” He looks behind him at the hallway, but there’s no sound from Avery’s room. He sighs. “Look, I know hockey players. Okay? You have fame. And–and money. And you want fun. And Avery and I–well, we’re happy being us, but we’re just us. And it’s really scary for me to know that you can leave any time you want because you have the resources–and, and the ability to do it. And there’s so many other people with better circumstances–don’t look at me like that, Geno. I’m not trying to fish for sympathy. It’s just how it is, and I’m acknowledging it. And I know it’s not what you want to hear, and it sounds like I’m the world’s biggest dick, but I can’t just be here because you want to play house once in a while.”

“Sid,” Geno says, devastated. He grips Sidney’s shoulders, but Sidney won’t meet his eyes. “Sid. Look at me. Look.”

Sidney sniffles, his voice cracking. “I have to think about myself and my son, too, you know? I’m tired of getting thrown away for being not good enough.”

And that’s just it, isn’t it? Geno realizes. The culmination and root of all of Sidney’s insecurities and fear. His dream of getting drafted cut short by an injury, his ex-partner leaving him and his son for someone else, him turning that feeling of abandonment into a silent resilience and strength to take care of his family first in lieu of taking care of himself. But here he is, finally, admitting the last shred of selfishness he has left in his body, a wish to just be wanted and not having to worry about being loved, and it tears at Geno’s heart. Geno wants to give him the world, but Sidney’s heart is held together by tape and and a couple pieces of loose string; he’ll fall apart if it shatters again. He can’t afford to take things given to him without a fight.

“Sidney, I love you,” Geno says fiercely, and Sidney looks up in shock. “I love you so much. The last six months, best six months of my life. You know? Remember that loss to Flyers, a while back? Sid, remember?”

“I remember,” Sidney replies softly.

“I’m so angry then,” Geno says. “Just go straight back to hotel room and be angry, not go out with teammates. And then you and Avery call me, and I’m so happy. Forget we lose at all. Just listen to you and Avery talk to me, maybe talk a little bit about hockey, but mostly about his day at school, and you talk about your day at work and some dumbass spill coffee on copy machine. And I think right then, ‘Thank God I have family waiting for me at home. They’re in Pittsburgh and I can go home soon and see them, and then take Avery out to zoo or something‘”

“Geno, I–”

Geno cups Sidney’s face, smoothing out Sidney’s cheek with his thumb. “Sid. Hockey is not my life. Yes, big part, can’t help it. But family is most important. You and Avery is most important. Is too early, maybe yes, maybe no, but I already know I’m want to be with you for long time, if you want me. Okay? Should have said earlier, so you not think about it so much like this.”

“I’m–” Sidney looks so cautiously hopeful, then shakes his head. He looks like all the fight has gone out of his body. “Every time I think I finally got you figured out, you just–just do this.”

“Sidney Patrick Crosby, you share family with me, make me most happy, make me believe I’m do anything and not just be dumb hockey player,” Geno says, nuzzling Sidney’s cheek and saying the words into his skin. “I’m lucky to even meet you. I love you,” he says again. “Want be with you.”

“Okay, G,” Sidney murmurs after a while, leaning in to press his lips against Geno’s. “Okay.”

Even in a world of heroes Los Santos is too corrupt for any true good to prosper. The Supers who come to fight the good fight soon fall, retreating from an unwinnable battle, being brutally murdered and made public warning or, worse, plunging fast and hard into the ever growing ranks of villainy that rule the city. And really, is there anything more dangerous than a villain with a cause? A baddie with all the self-entitled righteousness of a former hero, the taste for glory, for public deference, for power.

It’s not like there are rules, no handbook for the Powered to follow, checkboxes for being good vs being evil, no set destiny determining that one must be one or the other but things always seem to play out in the same way. Humans aren’t half as complex as they’d like to believe, all follow the same broad paths sooner or later; the ones who hide themselves away, the ones who take what they want, and the ones who think to stand up and protect their idea of justice.

When the Powered came into the public eye there was fear, jealously, there were calls to register, to lock up the powerful, demands to go to any extreme to ensure the protection of the Non-powered. Not all Powers are equal, for every terrifyingly notable gift there are dozens of negligible abilities, little more than party tricks or cosmetic changes, but most Non-powered didn’t care to see the difference. The lack of rhyme or reason scared them, the fact that unknown powers may have manifested in anyone from a childhood friend to a nephew, a nun to a super-max criminal, newfound supremacy with no regard for class or wealth. Many of the Powered were talented beyond belief, some stronger than anyone could deem reasonable, but the Non-powered would always have numbers and the ever reliable quality of hating anyone who was different.

Overall it was handled poorly, even in areas not screaming for imprisonment or execution, places where Powers were seen as gifts, amazing and awe-inspiring, society simply lacked adequate infrastructure to support so many new abilities. Prison cells were no longer adequately applicable to all people, some were now immune to necessary medicines, the limits of human weight and strength had gone out the window and airspace no longer belonged solely to machines. Worse though was the fact that there was nothing in place to protect the Powered from the hateful masses, nothing to help identify and channel the newly Powered into appropriate support and education programs, nothing to mitigate the growing tensions and unease. And, yes, nothing at all which could combat the inevitable pushback, fight off the onslaught of Powered coming for law-enforcement and society alike, not just actual criminals but also mismanaged children and the inescapable furious retribution from regular Powered when it all goes wrong.

It was a dark time, Powered persecuted without cause or mercy and Non-Powered constantly looking over their shoulders lest they be the target of rebel vengeance, a world-wide uproar which eventually gave rise to the Supers. Because there were of course Powered who believed in justice, who wanted to help, who stood up to stand up against their own kind when things got dire and led the charge to bring peace and understanding between Powered and Non.

So things eventually settle, an uneasy truce, but there will always be those who use their Powers for their own benefits, society be damned, just as there will always be the do-gooders using their Powers to police how others behave. It of course takes the general public no time at all to start referring to them as Heroes and Villains, the comparison too close to ignore despite the general lack of spandex, but there was never going to be such a clean division.

Clearly those who think it’s simply black or white have never had to define the Powered who were scouted for shady corporations or government wet work, never had to draw the line between political or military ‘heroes’ and vigilante ‘villains’. Clearly those people had never been to Los Santos, where the heroes could be just as bad, could be far, far worse, than the villains had any hope of being.

It’s all well and good for the villains in Los Santos, at least a while - better to have the heroes get on board than have them chasing you down and ruining your every plan -  but it’s getting a bit crowded to be honest. It’s hard to stretch your wings as a bad guy when there’s no one left to push back against, when on every job you trip over half a dozen bozos running their own gigs. When the levels of depravity some of these assholes stoop to start giving all the regular villains a bad name.

So, something has to be done, and if the good guys can’t hack it, the bad guys are going to have to. Or at least that’s how Ramsey sells it when he’s dragging a pack of semi-reluctant crooks together, cherry picking powers and personalities to build what will be an undeniably formidable crew so long as he can get them all onside. Considering Geoff’s gift of telepathy and thought implantation, limited though it may be, getting everyone to sign up and play nice with one another isn’t quite as difficult as one would expect.

Some of his choices are crooks he’s already worked with, Powers tried and tested, those who Geoff trusts more than anyone else on earth. Most notably of these are his ever faithful right hand, Jack, who manipulates wind and weather, and the ineffable Lindsay with her flaming wings. Then there’s Matt Bragg’s technological genius, Trevor’s ability to defy notice and walk unseen, Steffie’s unearthly level of multi-tasking and information analysis, and the host of loyal Powered friends they bring to the table.

Even the ringers who Geoff’s not actually trialled have been vigorously investigated, carefully selected from the hundreds of possible Powered criminals in Los Santos. He’d built up some rapport with the foreigner, Free, who’s been running with two other Powered, a little crew he won’t leave behind, not that Geoff actually wants him to. He was after Gavin’s power, inherent luck and the manipulation of probabilities an indispensable quality in his endeavour, but he’d be a fool not to snatch up Gavin’s friends while he’s at it. Jones with his control of heat, of fire and ice, and Dooley’s ability to change his own density at will makes the pair near indomitable in a fight, an unquestionably powerful duo to have in your corner. And last, but by no means least, was the terrible Vagabond, the corrupted healer who takes people apart from the inside out, a living nightmare even in Los Santos. Ryan was by far the hardest to win over to the cause, but once he’s in Geoff knows they’re golden.

It’s quite a line-up but even with that security there is no scattergun approach, Geoff’s done his homework, has villains and ex-heroes categorised by the danger their powers pose and the difficulty in taking them down. The first few jobs are so quick and ruthless the targets have no time to see them coming, to prepare proper defences, no chance to combat the array of abilities they’re faced with. From there word gets out, but while they lose the element of surprise they’re still in the unique position of being united; it’s so rare for those who are Powered to truly combine forces, rarer still in a group of more than two or three, and without any backstabbing or infighting Ramsey’s collection have found themselves to be near unstoppable.

Between them they have the best plans, horrifyingly efficient fighters, have infiltration, manipulation and extermination completely covered. Hell they even have a preternaturally skilful wheelman to get them all the hell out of dodge when things take a turn. Perhaps best of all, though, is the fact that to some degree they have the support of the city; law enforcement, struggling Supers and civilians alike, who’ve noticed this new group shaking up the powers that be in the underbelly of the city. Who might not all be actively helping but certainly aren’t hindering, stepping back and giving Geoff and his people free reign to finally fix up the wicked city.

So for a moment they are beacons, a spot of light pushing back the darkness in Los Santos, persevering where others have been crushed, relentless in their quest to take out the worst elements of the city. It is, of course, difficult to be swayed from the right path when you were never on it in the first place, can’t fall from grace when you never had any to start with. Ramsey’s gang seem invulnerable to the filth and corruption of Los Santos simply because the darkness was in them all along, their goals have never been anything close to altruistic.

Some still believe, see only what they have intentionally been shown, think Ramsey’s crew vigilantes, perhaps too harsh, too violent, but only out of necessity, the strong hand of justice the depraved city of sin has been crying out for. They think the attacks will cease once the city has been cleansed, cheer on their counterfeit champions right up until the moment they finally realise that they’ve been played, that Ramsey and his gang of reprobates will never be the good guys.

Because no matter what the idealists would like to believe, no matter what other crooks might sneer and spit, no one who’s paying attention could truly think Ramsey’s crew had gone light side, not by a long shot. They take down other villains, yes, but not in ways the so called good would approve of, not peacefully, not humanely, not even remotely quick, clean or painless. They take down other villains, sure, but for their own benefit, for their own power and greed, their own amusement. They take down other villains but they don’t spare the cops. They take down other villain’s but they aren’t saving civilians, aren’t restoring peace, they don’t return stolen goods or misappropriated funds, don’t seek to inspire children or bring safety back to the streets.

When all the Powered formidable enough to have half a chance of beating them have been overthrown, Ramsey and his crew are right there to see their plan through. They’ve not been cleaning up Los Santos so much as they’ve been claiming it, taking full control over the city that has been thought for so long to be utterly untameable, all the while ensuring there will be no one left to challenge them. An empire built on fallen bodies, tacitly approved by the masses, a violent take over sold under the guise of justice. And in that they have found a whole new way to be devious, a fresh take on villainy, giving hope to those who’d thought themselves hopeless only to dash it all away again. Those false heroes, those reprehensible Fakes.

And it was morning as God stood before his twelve children and into each of them planted the seed of human life. One by one each child stepped forward to receive his appointed gift

To you Gemini I give the questions without the answers, so that you may bring to all an understanding of what people see around them. You will never know why people speak or listen, but in your quest for the answer you will find my gift of Knowledge.

To you Cancer I ascribe the task of teaching people about emotion. My Idea is for you to cause them laughter and tears so that all they see and think develops fullness from inside. For this I give you the gift of Family that your fullness may multiply.

To you Leo I give the job of displaying my Creation in all its brilliance to the world. But you must be careful of pride and always remember that it is My Creation, not yours. For if you forget this, people will scorn you. There is much joy in the job I give you if you but do it well. For this you are to have the gift of Honor.

To you Virgo I ask for an examination of all that humankind has done with my Creation. You are to scrutinize their ways sharply and remind them of their errors, so that through them my Creation may be perfected. For doing this I give you the gift of Purity of Thought.

To you Libra I give the mission of service, that humans will be mindful of their duties to others. That they may learn cooperation, as well as the ability to reflect on the other side of their actions. I will put you everywhere there is discord, and for your efforts I will give you the gift of Love.

To Sagittarius I ask that you make people laugh, for amidst their misunderstanding of My Idea they become bitter. Through laughter you are to give people hope, and through hope trun their eyes back to Me. You will touch many lives if but for a moment, and you will know the restlessness in every life you touch. To you Sagittarius I give the gift of Infinite Abundance that you may spread wide enough to reach every corner of darkness and bring it Light.

To you Capricorn I ask the toil of your brow, that you might teach people to work. Your task is not an easy one, for you will feel all of humankind’s labors on your shoulders; but the yoke of your burdens contains the Responsibility of your Brothers and Sisters, which I put into your hands.

Villain Preference: Falling/Feeling in Love

Francis/Ajax

Francis didn’t take his feelings for you seriously at first. Things were casual, nothing special, no commitment; just a little stress relief. But from day one, although he didn’t admit it, you made him feel for the first time in his life. It snuck up at first; the physical aspect of your relationship caught him by surprise because he was no longer numb, despite his mutation. You have that effect on him. You make him feel. He keeps you at arm’s length but never farther than that.

Angel

You caught Angel completely by surprise. His rage didn’t frighten you. In fact, no aspect of him scared you. The first time you saw him you seemed so enamored by his mutation that he wasn’t sure what to say or do. The first time he lost control and flew into a rage, you stayed strong and talked him down without even a flinch. He didn’t feel like a freak with you. And before he knew it, he was actually making an effort to be less angry and violent, just to impress you. He never said anything about it. It was you who eventually realized what was going on, so you made a move. And boy, did he respond! No one had better ever try to lay a finger on you now.

Brock Rumlow/Crossbones

Brock isn’t a bad guy; he was just dealt a bad hand in life. After his burn accident Brock could barely look at himself anymore. He was vengeful and resentful and full of rage. His physical appearance was a reminder of that. But the first time you saw his face, all you could think about was the pain in his eyes. You saw past his appearance and his anger and saw his heart, which in its essence was good. You never asked him to change; maybe on some level he wasn’t the bad guy to you. You shielded him from his own self-hatred, and eventually he allowed himself to open up and include you in his life. He feels almost normal with you and you are the one thing he values in this world more than revenge.

En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse

You were the epitome of beauty and power to En Sabah Nur, a kind of mortal goddess. He saw straight through the exterior into your true being, and it was the most breathtaking thing he’d ever experienced. He is not evil at his core. His intentions are rooted in a desire to spread wisdom and eliminate weakness. But you help him to see the beauty in humanity and the importance of both human and mutant life. He is grateful to have an eternity, if it means seeing all the goodness that is you.

Harry Osborn/Green Goblin

Harry is not a bad man; just a very angry one. It is hard sometimes to be near him when his alter ego is in full swing, especially if you are at all close to Peter or Gwen. At first when the two of you started spending time together, he played the cool guy card. He remained aloof, sending you noncommittal but impressive gifts, and showing off for you one moment then not speaking to you for days. You hated the games and had no qualms in telling him so. He shaped up after that and began to act like a true gentleman. There are bad days; the Green Goblin is like a condition he has to cope with. But you support him and continue to believe that there is good in him somewhere, which he secretly holds on to in the dark moments.

Loki

Loki doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his ability to love. He loved his mother dearly, and deep down he still loves his brother, despite their disagreements. But he never loved anyone like he loves you. You became his world, his anchor to his humanity, and he would rather die than lose you. He became a better man by loving you.

Magneto

Erik has lost everyone he has ever loved. Love terrifies him and he walks around with the weight of everyone he’s lost on his heart. He feels he either can’t love or can’t hold on to love. But you were different. You’re smart and tough, a real badass. But you are also kind. And it was your kindness that finally broke the wall he put up around himself. He always admired how strong you were, and how capable of taking care of you and yours. But then you showed that kinder, softer side and he melted. He is fiercely protective, but then again so are you.

Nebula

After her rough childhood and lack of warmth in her life, Nebula is very much like a puppy that’s been kicked a few too many times. She followed Ronan with a steadfast loyalty and obeyed her father even when he demanded too much of her. So when she met you, and you treated her with such tenderness, she wasn’t sure what to do. She was excited and afraid and hopeful and confused. But once she opened up and realized you weren’t going to hurt her, she became the most loving, loyal, attentive girlfriend ever.

Ronan the Accuser

Ronan is the conquerer and you are his queen. He had never met someone who could match him so well. You were truly regal, fit to rule the world beside him. He had never considered what love would be like, but he didn’t even think about it when you came into his life. You just fit. He had never wanted to share anything, especially power, but he wanted to hand you the universe on a silver platter. Every king needs a queen, and there was no one more fitting than you.

Victor Creed/Sabretooth

Victor doesn’t necessarily feel love in the fuzzy, romantic sense. There’s no heartfelt confessions, grand gestures, or sweet moments. But you stuck around and that meant a lot to him. You became his partner and the two of you made an unstoppable team. Eventually taking things a step farther felt natural. You were right on his level of crazy and you didn’t take flack from anyone, even him. Needless to say things are pretty heated between you two. He respects you and loves you, in his own sociopathic way. He certainly wouldn’t hesitate to kill anyone who touched you.

William Stryker

Stryker’s bias against mutants is fierce and an ugly part of his personality. But it also showcases his ability to command and stand strong for what he believes to be “right.” Somewhere in his heart he believes he is keeping you safe by eliminating them. Before you, he was a man on a mission, a relentless soldier. But when he met you he began to look at the world a little differently. Your sympathy for the mutants proved to be one of your strengths. He didn’t agree with you, in any respect, but you seemed to find a middle ground. His lust for you overthrew his disgust for mutant sympathizers, and it evened out into some agreement to disagree.

BONUS: Grant Ward

Ward is another “good guy, bad life” classic case. But somewhere inside him, there is an unspoken desire to do what is right for the people he loves. And once he admitted his real feelings for you, you became one of those rare people. He is hesitant and balks easily, as his abusive past comes back to haunt him. But you are patient and understanding, and you stick around, so no matter what he always comes back to you. He may not apologize for these moments, but you know deep down he is sorry and loves you deeply. He just may not be able to show it easily.

BONUS: The Winter Soldier

It is difficult for Bucky, in his Winter Soldier haze, to sort out his emotions. They’re jumbled together with wavering memories and bits and pieces of his real self. But love terrified him. The more he felt it, the more vehemently he pushed you away. It got to the point that he had you slammed up against a wall, knife to your throat, swearing at you to get away. But even then, you saw through the haze into the deepest part of him, and he had no choice but to kiss you and forget the rest for that moment. Those passing moments with you were the only things that made sense to him.

POSITIVITY

@illegitimatestark // @vengefulwinter : You are like a sister to me, and you’ve become such a huge part of my life honestly. Di you are an amazing person. You speak up when you know something is wrong, you’re a bloody good friend. You’ve been there for me when i was at my absolute lowest, when i was so low i couldn’t see a way out and you helped me get through it. You helped me get back to a happier version of myself. I respect you for so many reasons, you’ve taught me how to deal with certain aspects of my life. You’ve never judged me for things i couldn’t control. You are an amazing person and an absolute talented writer. Your portrayals of every single one of your muses constantly have me in awe honestly. You capture their voice so well that i can hear them in your writing. The thought you put into your backstory for Jakz was so deep and well thought out that it had me change one of my rules regarding OC children. You had me wanting to write with you and you still do to this day. Thank you for being you, for being so creative and inspiring on a daily basis. Thank you for your patience with me, because i know that sometimes i can be the most frustrating person on the planet. Know that i love you, and all your muses. Jakz Stark is one of those really fleshed out OC’S, you can see how much work you put into making sure that she was not only relevant in her own story line, but also that Tony’s arc was not changed either. You really thought about it, and you have multiple verses that can help accommodate everyone. Honestly i am really glad i met you, i don’t know what my life would be like without you. Also my muses absolutely adore yours, tony just wants to cuddle them all and protect them from the world. Whenever you need to rant, or if you’re having a bad day, just know i’m on your side and i will listen if you need to talk whether it’s three am or 4pm, i will always respond to the message even if its when i’ve just woken up. <3

@dualclaws : Dany, we have been through a lot and i am really thankful for the place that we’re in right now. We haven’t always been in such a good place, and things have been hard but we’ve both grown as people, we’ve helped each other really, i know that you’ve helped me. Your friendship is something that i am incredibly thankful for, as well as your ability to be incredibly empathetic to those around you. It’s inspiring, to see the way you connect with people, because you truly are a good soul. You want to help people and as a person you’ve become stronger. I’m incredibly proud of the person you’ve become Dany and your writing is incredible. The passion you have for Laura? that’s something to be cherished. It’s something i hope you never lose, because honestly you understand Laura Kinney, you know her strengths and her weaknesses. You’ve done a hell of a lot of research and your face claim choices reflect that. You do your best to stay true to Laura’s portrayal in Logan, but you also keep up with the comics and study them. I love your main verse, it shows how much you truly care and the how much time you’ve spent carefully planning out your vision for Laura. That’s important to me, that it’s YOUR vision, because as much inspiration you take from Mangold and 616, you also have a unique perspective and to me that’s important. Yes you’re writing is very in character, and thats a beautiful thing but it’s also entwined with your perspective and how you see Laura as a person. It’s wonderful truly.  I’m always here when you need to talk, when you’re having a bad day and you need to call someone? know that 9/10 you can always call me and i will do my best to be there.

@notacyclonefan : Chelly you are…..well sometimes i think your Steve Rogers personified, your writing is that beautiful. You really capture his essence, who he is behind the shield and that really resonates with me. Because you know that he’s so much more than his title on the field and honestly the way you write him is unique. You incorporate his flaws, you remind people of the fact he actually does have a sense of humour. Chelly you bring him to life and writing with you is honestly one of my greatest joys. Not only are you a talented writer, you’re a super positive person. You make me smile, even on the days where i feel utterly miserable and i hope i can do the same for you. Chellybean, you have such a beautiful outlook on life, i love the way you can make anything into a pun, and how you can make a joke out of the smallest thing. You brighten my day and you’ve always been so supportive and encouraging. You’re such a good friend, an amazing person inside and out, and one of my favourite people in the world. Never stop being you <3 I’ve always got your back Chelly

@threeclaws : We’ve never actually spoken before but i just want to say that your presence on the dash is a blessing. Your threads with @dualclaws are honestly wonderful, you write Logan brilliantly and i love your vision for him. You are talented and appreciated and i just wanted you to know that.

@siberianwreckage : What can i say about Holly? well i can say that you are honestly inspiring. Your graphics truly are gorgeous. Not only do you make beautiful things, but your writing has me emotional every single time because of the depth in it. My muses absolutely adore your Bucky, in fact Tony is constantly grabby hands for him. You are also a great listener, and it means the world to me. I hope that i can always do the same for you, just know that i will always be here for you. I love your passion for animals, every time you send me a picture of a deer and it’s fawn i can’t help but grin from ear to ear. Not just because their cute, but because at one stage you literally woke up super early just to take that picture, and that’s proof of how much you care and love animals. I love that you feed squirrels, you take care of the creatures around you. You have such a big kind heart Holly.  Never change because you are amazing.

Salam, Idk if you might understand me but I have this little things running throw my mind telling me I should give up in life & just die. I hate feeling like this but I'm always thinking like My Dua will never be accepted, I'm not good enough, what's the point of all this, & I'm always thinking maybe I should go back to my old ways. I feel like since I repented I'm Having so many problems in my life & people think of me as good person who changed so much, but they don't know I struggle so much.

Alikum Salam

I will try my best to answer your question by referring to the Qur’an and Hadith

Wanting to give up in life and die

“And never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy. Certainly, no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.” (12:87)

“Do not give up and do not be downhearted. You shall be uppermost if you are believers” (3:139)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “No one of you should wish for death or pray for it before it comes, for when one of you dies, his good deeds come to an end and for the believer a long life will not increase him in anything but good.” (Muslim)

A version narrated by al-Bukhaari says: “No one of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good and will do more, or he is a doer of evil but perhaps he may stop.”

Al-Nawawi said: This hadeeth clearly indicates that it is makrooh to wish for death because of some harm that has befallen one, such as loss or distress caused by an enemy, or other such hardships of this world. But if a person fears harm or fitnah with regard to his religious commitment, it is not makrooh to wish for death, according to this hadeeth, and several of the salaf did that.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best of people is the one who lives long and does good.” (Ahmad)

Acceptance of Dua

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me. So let them respond to Me (by obedience) and believe in Me that they may be (rightly) guided. (2:186)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Nothing can change the Divine decree except Dua.” (Ahmad)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Du’aa’ may be of benefit with regard to what has already happened or what has not yet happened, so adhere to Du’aa’, O slaves of Allaah.” (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “No precaution can protect against the decree of Allaah. Du’aa’ is beneficial with regard to what has been decreed and what has not been decreed. The du’aa’ meets the calamity that has been decreed and wrestles with it, until the Day of Resurrection.” (al-Tabaraani)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Ask, and you shall be given it; and you shall be given it.” (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Let everyone of you ask of His Lord all that He wants.” (Tirmidhi)

We were informed by our Prophet ﷺ that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) fulfills everybody’s wishes so long as a person does not get impatient and say, ‘I asked Allah for so and so and I still haven’t received it’. We are told never to despair of the mercy of Allah (subhan wa ta’ala).

The Prophet ﷺ informed us that there are several forms for the acceptance of dua. One is that you are given what you ask for. Another is that you are given better than what you asked for. A third is that some calamity that was about to befall you has been averted instead. The fourth is that the dua is saved up for you as sawaab/reward for the Day of Judgment. In all cases, asking Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) for things is beneficial.

Feeling like you are not good enough

He created the heavens and earth in truth and formed you and perfected your forms; and to Him is the (final) destination (64:3)

Indeed, We have created the human being upon the best of forms (95:4)

Allah SWT has created each one of us unique; you will find no two people in the world with the exact same personality, physical appearance, strengths, weaknesses, interests, etc. The way Allah SWT has created you and moulded your personality is for a reason – he has made you this way because he wants you to achieve your full potential and use your abilities for a bigger cause – do not lose heart if the situation looks difficult right now – keep striving and doing your best and, most importantly, keep asking Allah SWT to see you through this difficult time and be by your side – if you have His help, there is no difficult you cannot overcome. Again, remember He has created you the way you are for a reason – Allah SWT makes no mistakes with His creations – you are good enough – you are exactly the way He intended you to be – you only have to work hard to move from strength to strength now.

What’s the point of all this?

(He) who created death and life to test you (as to) which of you is best in deed (67:2)

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (51:56)

Going back to old ways,

Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allaah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allaah knows all that before putting them to test)” – (29:2-3)

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Saabiroon (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.’ They are those on whom are the Salawaat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones” (2:155-157)

And We have certainly revealed to you verses (which are) clear proofs, and no one would deny them except the defiantly disobedient. (2:99)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “No misfortune or disease befalls a Muslim, no worry or grief or harm or distress – not even a thorn that pricks him – but Allaah will expiate for some of his sins because of that.” (Bukhari)

Facing struggles after having repented

The Prophet ﷺ said: “If Allah wills good for His slave, He hastens his punishment in this world, and if He wills bad for His slave, He withholds from him (the punishment for) his sin, until He requites him for it on the Day of Resurrection.” (at-Tirmidhi)

The Prophet ﷺ “If a certain status has previously been decreed by Allaah for a person, and he does not attain it by his deeds, Allaah afflicts him in his body or wealth or children.” (Abu Dawood)

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Great reward comes with great trials. When Allah loves a people, He tests them, and whoever accepts it attains His pleasure, whereas whoever shows discontent with it incurs His wrath.” (at-Tirmidhi)

Narrated by Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqaas (رضي الله عنه) who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who among the people are most sorely tested? He ﷺ said: “The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A man will be tested according to his level of religious commitment. If his religious commitment is solid, his test will be more severe, but if there is any weakness in his religious commitment, he will be tested according to his level of religious commitment. And calamity will continue to befall a person until he walks on the earth with no sin on him.” (at-Tirmidhi)

Al-Hasan al-Basri (رضي الله عنه) said: “Do not resent the calamities that come and the disasters that occur, for perhaps in something that you dislike will be your salvation, and perhaps in something that you prefer will be your doom.”

Al-Fadl ibn Sahl (رضي الله عنه) said: “There is a blessing in calamity that the wise man should not ignore, for it erases sins, gives one the opportunity to attain the reward for patience, dispels negligence, reminds one of blessings at the time of health, calls one to repent and encourages one to give charity.

Finally a word of advice from me: it is very common that, once someone finds their way back to the deen and tries to practice it earnestly, they are faced with hardship. Do not fear these hardships as they are from Allah SWT and may be intended to either purify you from your previous sins, help you learn an important lesson and come out of the difficult situation a more mature and improved individual or to test whether you can withstand challenges you face in life and, having gone through them, still maintain your level of iman in Allah SWT and keep trusting Him to take the best decision for you.

Take this difficult time in life as a challenge you will get through and form an intention that, once this difficulty is over, you would have come out of it a much stronger individual and a much better Muslim in’Sha’Allah. Remember, every night ends and every difficult situation is eventually taken care of by Allah SWT. You will soon witness good times in’Sha’Allah.

And, behold, with every hardship comes ease (94:5)

Read all the above mentioned Quranic verses and Hadiths remembering that each of them are intended specifically for you and are a message to you from Allah SWT to help you through this difficult time. Whenever you are faced with negative thoughts, try to remember the above and find hope – I know it is easier said than done but we must strive in Allah’s path and never doubt his decisions and power even for a second. You are strong enough to face this hardship and you will not go back to your old ways - You are strong enough for this! As Allah SWT has stated in the Quran:

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear(…) (2:286)

Takecare :)

47 +14 for starmora!

14. “Can I have this dance?” // 47. “Did you get my letter?”

this is. just angst. literally, it’s angst, and the only reason there’s fluff at the end is because of the “can I have this dance?” part of the prompt haha rip. think of this one as a prequel kinda to my last oneshot

send me a ship + a number for a way to say “I love you”!!!!

“You were so reckless, like, I can’t even believe it, because you’re supposed to be the smart one, preventing the rest of us from killing ourselves out there—“

Gamora sighs, slumping a bit where she’s sitting on the bed. “Are you done?”

“As a matter of fact, I’m not, because I’m in charge of making sure my team doesn’t die in dumb ways, but then you run off to deal with the biggest, baddest threat to the entire universe ever, not even trusting your own teammates to have your back!” Peter shakes his head in exasperation as he paces back and forth in front of her, gesturing wildly with his hands.

“You know that’s not what this is about—“

“How the hell would I know, because if you actually died out there, then there’d be no way for me to know!”

“Peter,” she says calmly, slowly, “Thanos is my fight—“

“He’s threatening the same galaxy that I live in, y’know—“

“I knew he would come after the team so I was going to handle it on my own—“

“That’s not fair, and you know it, Gamora—“

“Yes, we’ve always helped each other, but my problems are different—“

“No, they’re not!” Peter exclaims, throwing his hands up. “Maybe we weren’t all trained to be assassins by people who surgically implanted cybernetic enhancements in us, but some of us also lost our parents to crazy, power-hungry dudes who tried to be our dads, which resulted in us losing our childhood lives and homes.” He stops to catch his breath, staring directly into her eyes. “I know of at least one person who gets it, who gets you, so he understands why you felt the need to go off on your own to handle it, but he doesn’t understand why you actually did it.”

Gamora presses her lips together. “Did you get my letter?”

“Of course,” he says quietly. He sticks a hand into his jacket and pulls out a folded piece of paper with “Peter” written on the outside. It looks a little worse for wear now, probably from the fight earlier when Peter had led the rest of the team to help her defeat some of Thanos’ forces and put an end to her recent rogue adventures. He holds the paper up delicately between his fingers, despite visibly seething. “So, yes, technically, I understand why, but I don’t understand why.”

She doesn’t respond.

He sighs. “I probably read this letter more times in two days than I read my favorite book as a kid with my mom on Terra in eight years.”

“I just wanted you to know, to maybe understand…if we never got to…”

As she trails off, Peter steps closer to her. “Stop saying that, stop acting like this is the end.”

“But it’s Thanos, Peter,” Gamora insists, her voice scarcely above a whisper. “I first ran away years ago already knowing it would probably end in my death. I’d never intended for it to include anyone else.”

He sets the letter back in his pocket and gently takes her hands in his, pulling her up to stand with him. “But if we work together, like we always do—“

She shakes her head, her eyes glossy and a lump forming in her throat. “I still don’t think it’s possible.”

“Well, with an attitude like that,” he attempts to joke, but she shakes her head again.

“If you think it was easy for me to leave you all, you’re wrong,” she states, her voice regaining some strength. She pulls her hands away from his, turning away. “You all lost one friend. I lost four.”

He doesn’t respond at first, and Gamora wonders if she took it too far. She forces herself to get over it, because, really, when it comes to Thanos, she’d happily lay her life down to stop him and protect her friends, her family. She’s not about to drag them into her mess.

“Dear Peter, I wish things didn’t have to be this way, but I’m afraid I have no other choice.”

She turns at his voice to find him looking at her with a crestfallen expression.

“You’re probably confused about my behavior lately, including why I’ve written you a letter, of all things,” he continues reciting, his eyes never leaving hers. “I’m sorry for being distant and cold. I wish I could be brave, like you, persisting after a lifetime of grief, but I can’t. My nightmares have returned and I don’t know how else to stop them. I know Thanos. I know his game. It’s my sole responsibility to see the mission through and stop him before he can destroy the universe, before he can destroy you and the others.

“You all taught me hope and love after so many years of loneliness and sorrow. I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m still proud that I’ve had the chance to be surrounded by friends, through the good times and the bad. And, of course, there’s you, Peter, who’s managed to teach me so many things about life, friendship, and a different kind of love from the others. Never doubt how much I love you. It’s because I love you I must do this. Take care of the others for me. Take care of Groot, even though he’s nearly full-grown now.

“If we do not meet again in this life, I look forward to when we are reunited in the stars. Love, Gamora.” He takes a deep breath upon finishing, looking at her pointedly. “Do you believe me now when I say I pored over that thing?”

She feels just as rattled by her words as he appears to be. She steps closer to him. “I never doubted it. I meant every word when I wrote it.”

“It doesn’t have to be this way,” he insists tearfully. “You stood by me against my evil, universe-destroying dad, without even batting an eye, and I know you’d do it all over again if you had to. Why can’t I do the same for you?”

Really, when he puts it that way, she falters in crafting an effective counterargument. Tears well up in her eyes and she lets out a shuddering breath, exposing the anxiety that’s been eating her alive since everything had gone to shit recently. She struggles for words, opening her mouth and shaking her head. “I’m not…I’m not used to someone loving me enough to do that.”

Her voice sounds embarrassingly pitiful, echoing the fear Thanos had instilled in her at a young age. She hasn’t broken down like this in a long time—years, perhaps—and she wants nothing more than to just crawl into some dark hole, never to be seen again, if only to save herself the humiliation of losing her cool like this, after acting like she had some sort of control over everything. (Again, she envies Peter’s bravery in his ability to be so optimistic, despite the world constantly ending around him.)

But Peter’s never judged her, and that doesn’t change now. He holds her hand, using his other hand to cup her cheek. “Hey, hey, breathe, babe. You need air to keep arguing with me.”

She can’t help the little strange gasp that’s supposed to be a laugh that comes out at his words, the corners of her lips twitching up. “I’m—I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay, I mean, life is really shitty right now, so that’s not okay, but it’s okay to be upset by everything and be a little vulnerable,” he says. “Of course, that’s almost just as scary as Thanos, probably, but I’d probably be confused if you weren’t really upset about all of this, y’know?”

“You should be mad at me,” she protests.

“Uh, did you miss my whole spiel earlier? I was pretty pissed, and even though I still am a little, I love you more than how much I’m mad for you, if that makes sense? Like, the love is trumping the anger. Anyway, I’m just glad you’re back, is what I’m trying to say, and I hope you’re not planning on running away again, because then I’m just gonna sic the team on you when we get you back again, and they’re probably going to yell and swear more than me.”

“Even Groot?”

“Even Groot. Haven’t you heard the mouth on him? We really should do something about his language.”

She wipes the last of her tears away with the back of her hand. “But who taught him those words, hm?”

“Rocket,” Peter insists. “Definitely not me.”

“Whatever you say, Star-Lord.”

He smiles, pulling her in closer and pressing a kiss to her forehead. “In all seriousness, though, please don’t run away and go rogue again.”

“I won’t,” she whispers, meeting his eyes.

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

At that, he pulls her into a hug, just holding her. She wraps her arms around his back, resting her face against his shoulder and closing her eyes, inhaling his familiar scent. As worried as she still feels over Thanos swooping in and taking them away from her, she feels a tranquility she hasn’t felt in weeks, feeling her heartbeat slow considerably. Though she still believes protecting Peter and the others is the right thing to do, she knows she can’t bear to pull the disappearing act again. It’s not fair to any of them, even if staying endangers them a bit more.

A gentle knock, accompanied by a soft “I am Groot,” comes from the door. Peter looks up. “It’s open, Groot.”

As the door opens, Groot pokes his head in. He’s practically back to his original size now and hardly fits through doorways. He looks concerned. “I am Groot?”

Gamora smiles. “I’m fine now, Groot,” she says, pulling away from Peter enough to look at Groot. “Thank you for helping me and bringing me back.”

“I am Groot.”

“You think music will help cheer everyone up?” Peter echoes. Groot nods with a smile. “Great idea, buddy. Can you go ask Kraglin to hook up the Zune to the Quadrant’s speakers? You can pick the song.”

Groot nods again, closing the door and walking away.

“Which song do you think he’ll choose?” Gamora asks, turning to Peter.

“Your guess is as good as mine.”

The answer comes about a minute later, when the first chords of “Bring it on Home to Me” fill the room. Peter laughs as Gamora rolls her eyes, amused.

“I may have told Groot about what happened on Ego’s planet,” Peter admits, shifting his hands to take one of hers and hold onto her hip. “Can I have this dance?”

Gamora wraps her arm around Peter’s back and gently squeezes his hand. “You can.”

With that, they start swaying carefully, and Gamora breathes a sigh of relief. Her problems are far from solved now, but Peter’s words restore the hope Thanos had managed to squash recently.

She can do this. They can do this.

The Rules for Lovers Chapter 11 (aka hell chapter) in GIFs

I usually write out my thoughts/reactions to a chapter as I go to make writing AO3 comments easier. However, it soon became clear to me that my reactions to chapter 11 are best expressed in GIF form, so I’m going to go ahead and post my comments here.

Thanks, @adreamingsongbird for ripping out my heart. I don’t need it to live.

Under cut for spoilers (and length).

With You (Part ¼)
In which Emma and Killian are forced to stay in the Enchanted Forest in the past.

Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

It only hits her late that first night when she’s lying alone in the (too large) bed at the inn they’d found.  (He’d taken the floor) (I’m always a gentleman) She’s stuck here. She’s stuck here and she’ll never see Henry again, never hear him laugh or cry or grow up to be the kind of man she’d be proud of. She’d never hug her parents again, never get to call them Mom and Dad (how she wishes she could have given them that little gift before she had left), never see her mother smile, never feel her father’s hand stroking her hair when he held her (warm and safe and home) and she can’t breathe. Her eyes burn, her stomach feels like there is a weight in it that threatens to drown her and the room is so cold. She sits up as quietly as she can but she can’t control the large shaky breath she takes or the choked sob that slips past.

“Swan?”, his voice is low and thick with sleep.

A beat.

“Emma, love, are you alright?”

She hears him standing up, feels the bed dip beside her and then suddenly his arms surround her (oh darling) and she clings to him, her solid anchor in this threatening ocean. He holds her through the tears, and the shudders that wrack her body afterwards, never letting go, never loosening his grip, letting her know that he was here and he was real.

Later, when she’s drifting off to an exhausted sleep with his warmth curled around her (stay, please), she realises that she isn’t alone in this.

She grips the arm around her tighter.

Karmic Astrology Allegory

And it was morning as God stood before his twelve children and into each of them planted the seed of human life. One by one each child stepped forward to receive his appointed gift.

To you Aries I give my seed first that you might have the honor of planting it. That for every seed you plant one million more will multiply in your hand. You will not have time to see the seed grow for everything you plant creates more that must be planted. You will be the first to penetrate the soil of men’s minds with My Idea. But it is not your job to nourish the Idea nor to question it. Your life is action and the only action I ascribe to you is to begin making men aware of My Creation. For your good work I give you the virtue of Self Esteem.
Quietly Aries stepped back to his place.

To you Taurus I give the power to build the seed into substance. Your job is a great one requiring patience for you must finish all that has been started or the seeds will be wasted to the wind. You are not to question nor change your mind in the middle nor to depend on others for what I ask you to do. For this I give you the gift of Strength. Use it wisely.
And Taurus stepped back into place.

To you Gemini I give the questions without answers so that you may bring to all an understanding of what man sees around him. You will never know why men speak or listen, but in your quest for the answer you will find my gift of Knowledge.
And Gemini stepped back into place.

To you Cancer I ascribe the task of teaching men about emotion. My Idea for you is to cause them laughter and tears so that all they see and think develops fullness from inside. For this I give you the gift of Family, that your fullness may multiply.
And Cancer stepped back to his place.

To you Leo I give the job of displaying My Creation in all its brilliance to the world. But you must be careful of pride and always remember that it is My Creation, not yours. For if you forget this men will scorn you. There is much joy in the job I give to you if you but do it well. For this you are to have the gift of Honor.
And Leo stepped back to his place.

To you Virgo I ask for an examination of all man has done with My Creation. You are to scrutinize his ways sharply and remind him of his errors so that through you My Creation may be perfected. For doing this I give you the gift of Purity of Thought.
And Virgo stepped back to his place.

To you Libra I give the mission of service, that man may be mindful of his duties to others. That he may learn cooperation as well as the ability to reflect the other side of his actions. I will put you everywhere there is discord, and for your efforts I will give you the gift of Love.
And Libra stepped back in place.

To you Scorpio I give a very difficult task. You will have the ability to know the minds of men, but I do not permit you to speak about what you learn. many times you will be pained by what you see, and in your pain you will turn away from Me and forget that it is not I but the perversion of My Idea that is causing your pain. You will see so much of man that you will come to know him as animal and wrestle so much with his animal instincts in yourself that you will lose your way; but when you finally come back to Me, Scorpio, I have for you the supreme gift of Purpose.
And Scorpio stepped back.

Sagittarius, I ask you to make men laugh for amidst their misunderstanding of My Idea they become bitter. Through laughter you are to give man hope, and through hope turn his eyes back to Me. You will touch many lives if but only for a moment, and you will know the restlessness in every life you touch. To you Sagittarius I give the gift of Infinite Abundance, that you may spread wide enough to reach into every corner of darkness and bring it light.
And Sagittarius stepped back into place.

Of you Capricorn I ask the toil of your brow, that you might teach men to work. Your task is not an easy one for you will feel all of man’s labors on your shoulders; but for the yoke of your burdens I put the Responsibilty of man in your hands.
And Capricorn stepped back into place.

To you Aquarius I give the concept of the future that man might see other possibilities. You will have the pain of loneliness for I do not allow you to personalize My Love. But for turning man’s eyes to new possibilities I give you the gift of Freedom, that in your liberty you may continue to serve mankind whenever he needs you.
And Aquarius stepped back into place.

To you Pisces I give the most difficult task of all. I ask you to collect all of man’s sorrow and return it to me. Your tears are to be ultimately My tears. The sorrow you will absorb is the effect of man’s misunderstanding My Idea, but you are to give him compassion that he may try again. For this the most difficult task of all I give the greatest gift of all. You will be the only one of My twelve children to understand Me. But this gift of Understanding is for you, Pisces, for when you try to spread it to man he will not listen.
And Pisces stepped back into place.

Then God said “You each have a part of My Idea. You must not mistake that part for all of My Idea, nor may you desire to trade parts with each other. For each of you is perfect, but you will not know that until all twelve of you are one. For then the whole of My Idea will be revealed to each of you.”

And the children left, each determined to do his job best that he might receive his gift. But none fully understood his task or his gift, and when they returned puzzled God said “You each believe that other gifts are better. Therefore I will allow you to trade.”
And for the moment each child was elated as he considered all the possibilities of his new mission.
But God smiled as he said “You will return to Me many times asking to be relieved of your mission, and each time I will grant you your wish. You will go through countless incarnations before you complete the original mission I have prescribed for you. I give you countless time in which to do it, but only when it is done can you be with Me.”

anonymous asked:

Have you guys sorted the characters in Agents of Shield?

The way we play this game, your “primary” house is WHY you do things and your “secondary” house is HOW. For a broader overview of our system, please go here!

MCU Coulson, who believed so solidly in the cause, and who transformed himself just slightly for each movie and Avenger, was a Gryffindor primary/Slytherin secondary. Throughout Agents of SHIELD, however, so many people tell Coulson or others that his personality has changed. The split between the MCU movies and the AoS canon is of course a break between writing teams/focus of the story, but in more canonical terms– between Avengers and the Agents of SHIELD pilot, T.A.H.I.T.I happens. Coulson’s brain is literally rewritten and, like several concerned characters, we believe we get back a different Coulson than the one that died. MCU Coulson was a Gryffindor/Slytherin, but this new “team Dad” Coulson is a team-building Hufflepuff Primary with a straightforward and leadership-focused Gryffindor Secondary.

A lot of the internal struggle we’re seeing in him is of someone who is now a Hufflepuff/Gryffindor, but who used to genuinely be a Gryffindor/Slytherin. His original Primary and Secondary have been bumped to the status of being his models, and we see him use them with various levels of success– trying to put victory before people and trying to act with a shifty cunning that doesn’t quite sit right on him. Even his successes though, like keeping information from May with such effectiveness, do not serve him well in the long term. The place he built his relationships on and the way he built his team up in AOS is as a Huffledor– his strengths come from his abilities to build loyal teams and lead them.

Coulson and his Hufflepuff Primary believe not only in the importance but also the strength of the individual. He will buck like a mule to save innocent lives, to save his team. When he uses Slytherin Secondary model’s tools to further his goals, he actually ends up losing track of those goals. In especially the second season, his Gryffindor Primary model is stagnant, clinging onto his memory of Nick Fury and the way he ran SHIELD, and not trusting in himself and the Hufflepuff morality that he values or the open honesty and integrity of his Gryffindor Secondary. A Coulson who acted according to the principles of his Huffledor sorting would probably be a lot better not only at keeping allies, but also at running SHIELD.

His reduced ability to judge situations by his own moral system leads to decisions like the one that kicked off Season 2, risking what very few agents he had to recover some new materiel and losing Agent Hartley. He gets a lot of flack for this decision over the season, and it’s because it was a stereotypical but innaccurate Gryffindor/Slytherin decision: it was important to get the plane, so they would risk anything they had to to get it.

But that type of strategy puts all of your agents at risk, and while Fury might have been able to afford that call, Coulson didn’t have enough agents to risk them in that type of operation. He was acting on an outdated (and inflexible) sense of Gryffindor “right,” and not valuing his agents like the Hufflepuff we’ve seen him to be. An actual Gryffindor Primary would have likely been able to assess the situation and make a different call, but Coulson is no longer a Gryffindor and he’s working off only rememberings of “what would I have done, before? what would Fury have done?” He is not truly consulting the intuitive and confident gut of a certain Gryffindor Primary, and so his decisions often not only fail to ring true, but fail in general.

This type of wasteful ruthlessness is not indicative of an actual Gryffindor/Slytherin– Coulson is falling into it because he's pretending to be a Gryffindor/Slytherin. If you think of our two prominent MCU Gryffindor/Slytherins, Peggy Carter and Nick Fury, their stubborn, brave moralities are both more genuine and more based in reality. Think of Peggy crying over Colleen or Nick lowering his gun when Natasha was being held hostage; Peggy asking Jarvis “but is it worth it?” about her friends’ deaths and Nick “I recognize that the Council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision I’ve elected to ignore it” Fury refusing to nuke New York to save the world.

Coulson’s model is a particularly heartless form of Gryffindor/Slytherin, and that’s why he gets quite so much flack; it wasn’t just that he risked the whole team, it was also his callous, unrepentant response to Hartley and Idaho’s deaths that upset people. He’s overcorrecting in his quest to be Gryffindor/Slytherin instead of Huffledor, and ends up undervaluing his people from both a moral and a strategic point of view.  Even from a completely cold, calculating perspective, it’s still dubious whether giving up two good agents (and risking several more) was worth getting the Quinjet.

Coulson also screws himself over by mimicking Fury’s leadership style, not just his morality. Fury deliberately makes himself imposing and bigger than life; the directer of SHIELD wasn’t wearing full-length black leather coats because they were on sale.  To some extent this works better for Fury because he’s dealing with a much larger organization—there’s no end to the list of people ready to question him, so the imposing persona cuts down on the amount of irrelevant crap he has to deal with.

It also works better because Fury knows when to set aside his mysterious, all-knowing, flaws-what-flaws persona; in CA:TWS he listens to Steve’s criticism even though he disagrees with it.  Coulson, on the other hand, does his utmost to shut down the conversation when faced with criticism. It’s like how large dogs are usually pretty chill when guests come over, while little dogs tend to yap ferociously.

The other reason it works better for Fury than for Coulson is competence levels.  Fury really is every bit as badass as he pretends to be.  Coulson, on the other hand, has large, glaring weaknesses as director; if he were honest about his uncertainties and weaknesses, and shared information with his team, then his team could help compensate for his weaknesses and point out his blindspots.

Melinda May is also a Hufflepuff Primary, but she “burned” because of what happened in Bahrain. After that trauma and those hard calls, Melinda’s faith in herself and her ability to help the world falters hard. She removed herself from the field and secluded herself in paperwork. Brave, gleeful prankster Melinda tries to stop caring, and pretends to herself that she had succeeded. This actual burning seems to have been accompanied by depression if not PTSD, and while she seems to have not entirely recovered, she is functional in current canon. While she remains “burned” in many ways, Melinda’s interactions with the Bus team and especially Skye, who in many ways is a younger, more hopeful version of May, have been grounding for her.

Melinda’s secondary, like Coulson’s, is Gryffindor. She values bluntness and honesty, and she feels betrayal from both Ward and Coulson sharply and reacts strongly. With Coulson, it was the lying even more than whether or not she disagreed with his plans that upset her. This betrayal was especially damning because burned Puff Melinda had in many ways hung her morality and degrees of her ethical agency on Coulson’s tailcoats– she trusts Coulson, when it comes to morality, often more than herself.

She also seems to have built herself a Hufflepuff Secondary model, working consistently on her fitness and emotional health, meditating regularly, and generally building herself a foundation that will help keep her functional despite her still coping with trauma (as we see in season one, when she’s able to hold the Berserker Staff without losing herself). This investment into skills of reliability, routine, and foundational strength seem to be one of the main coping mechanisms she’s built up to keep herself functional. This is perhaps particularly significant when you compare it to the intuitive, reactive strengths of the improvisational Gryffindor Secondary we saw in stories and flashbacks of a younger May.

Skye houseshares with both Coulson and May (the writing staff appears to love Hufflepuffs), and through the seasons (especially 2) we see her Hufflepuff Primary start to burn. Her role in the Rising Tide was absolutely the work of an unburned Hufflepuff, possibly even with a Gryffindor Primary model (though that might just be her Secondary showing through). She believes in fairness, evenhandness of information, and goes after those goals with the charismatic and bullheaded charge of a Gryffindor Secondary.

While the morality system with which Skye enters the show seems hinged around the fairness of Hufflepuff, she remains a Puff highly devoted to people– and moreover highly invested in finding a home and family to burrow into. However, family has been denied to this foster care bouncing ball for most of her life, and the focus on freedom of information, and her own stubborn search for her blood family, seem to have been what have kept her going, unburned, until the pilot.

On the Bus, she finds that family in Coulson’s team and in SHIELD at large– this is why getting the badge is so meaningful for her and also why Ward’s betrayal hits so hard. It is Ward and the failure of SHIELD, not her lonely childhood or rejection from foster families, which finally causes Skye to begin to burn.

She does not burn entirely, however, as we see in her growing willingness to accept and love her father (a dyed-in-the-wool Slytherin Primary), and to invest in her second family of the Inhumans. Skye in season two is more jaded. Though still willing to love her friends and to give new people some chances, she’s also satisfied with mindwiping her father and shooting Ward and other threats in cold blood.

Jemma and Fitz both have Ravenclaw Secondaries, but where Jemma is also a Ravenclaw Primary, Fitz is a Slytherin Primary. Especially early on, neither of them seem aware in the differences in their sortings. They bond over a shared and delighted Ravenclaw Secondary and seem to have never encountered a place where they conflicted. Jemma was the one who signed up for SHIELD fieldwork, because it was something that mattered; and Fitz followed, because Jemma matters.

In S1, Fitz clings harder and differently than Jemma. He loves their whole team (see: loyal, as-of-yet-untraumatized Fitz being the last willing to condemn Ward), and he loves Jemma most. While Jemma jumps off the plane in FZZT because it’s the right and responsible thing to do, and she’s decided to be right and responsible, Fitz sacrifices himself in the finale to save Jemma. These are things with the same moral weight to each of them. Fitz’s prioritization of Jemma makes her uncomfortable and is a factor in why she flees; Fitz expects Jemma to share his person-based Slytherin values and systems as much as she expects him to share her Ravenclaw ones, something that drives them both to confusion and Fitz to an even deeper disappointment when she doesn’t stay for him in S2.

The importance Jemma places on doing things to make Fitz feel appreciated, like making him his favorite sandwich, show that even though she isn’t a Slytherin herself, she has learned something of how to make a Slytherin (or at least Fitz) feel loved, at least in peacetime. She knows it will be effective in a way that other things wouldn’t be, which is why she calls on it to gain his trust at the end of season 2. She uses a kindly Hufflepuff performance to do this, and S1 Fitz believed the tools she was using without understanding that her priorities were different than his– because up until S2 their primaries had never been in a situation that forced them to make hard calls. By the end of S2, they both have a better and stronger respect for each other’s primaries. After that period of disillusionment and betrayal, they may be able to construct a mutual understanding between themselves.

This was also complicated by how Jemma’s Ravenclaw system changed mid-season 2. After Tripp dies, Jemma falls. Where once her dedication to curiosity, knowledge, and progress would have enchanted and driven her to study rather than eradicate the alien city and the Inhumans themselves, now she weighs that curiosity against the risk of failure and finds it wanting. She had promised herself that she would keep people safe and she failed. Tripp is dead. The science of the alien city is too dangerous, she decides– so just flood the whole place. We don’t need to learn about the aliens, we just need to protect ourselves from them.

Jemma abandons not her curiosity but her belief that she should follow her curiosity. Her system goes from prioritizing science to prioritizing safety. With the same decisive uncompromising idealist drive she’s always had now set against aliens, and with some new ruthlessness attached, she becomes a threat to Skye. The only thing stopping her from killing Skye toward the end of the second season was a firm (but fragile) denial that Skye was dangerous. It wasn’t a matter of Skye being an important person and friend and therefore worth of mercy and protection (this was Fitz’s Slytherin rationale)– it was just a matter of Jemma trying stubbornly to add a loophole into her system so she didn’t have to kill her friend. But if that denial ever fell apart, there’s no guarantee that she wouldn't kill Skye– not unless she figures out a way to more permanently edit her system so that she doesn’t have to.

Jemma also adds a formidable Slytherin Secondary model between the first and second seasons (potentially mirroring the one Skye entered the pilot with and has slowly put aside in favor of Gryffindor’s directness). Jemma wields her new secondary model with a skill that impresses and rivals even Slytherin/Slytherin Bobbi Morse. It’s what kept Jemma alive through her double agent days, which is where she built it, and it’s apparent in scenes like her easily tricking Bobbi during the taking of SHIELD’s base. It is a striking contrast to the freaked out Ravenclaw Secondary Jemma who compiled and anxiously spat out a whole complicated back-up backstory to Coulson on the train job episode in the first season.

Ward as a very, very Burned Hufflepuff Primary was a pretty immediate intuitive call for us, but it took longer for us to check it with the evidence because at first glance he seems almost equally likely if not more likely to be a Petrified Slytherin. He was abused from a young age and was then adopted by someone who continued to abuse him, but in a way where he was specifically taught to kill the people he cared about to make himself stronger. Making him kill his dog as a final test is a poignant example of the headspace Ward was both forced into and chose to embrace.

For the most part, he did a good job keeping in line with that headspace, feeling legitimately no guilt for betraying the Bus, and not having any issue with sleeping with May under false pretenses of his intentions and allegiances. His temporary bonding to the group and claims toward continued affection for them could just as easily be Hufflepuff as they are a Slytherin who likes them but doesn’t feel any loyalty to them. His pointed focus on Skye in particular seems especially Slytherin.

The place we found evidence to distinguish between the two loyalist Primary houses was when he started bonding to people again. His attachment to Agent 33 is based in a kind of fellow feeling and sympathy that suggests Hufflepuff more than Slytherin– the world had hurt her, like it had hurt him, and he wants to offer her a chance for revenge. More conclusive was his longing to be back not on good terms with individuals on the Bus but to be a part of the community again. He wants to be part of the family, and while he has a special focus on Skye it is more because she was a particular source of kindness and one of the best doorways into the family. Skye is the heart of the Bus in many ways, and winning her would mean winning a place back in the family.

His ease for subterfuge suggests a Slytherin Secondary– Ward rolls with the punches and cycles through presentations easily. He doesn’t prep in advance like a Ravenclaw Primary, or charge like a Gryffindor, or invest in reputation, reliability, or hard work the way a Hufflepuff Secondary might. He reacts and he moves and he takes opportunities when he can get him. In S2, with Agent 33 and with beginning a new HYDRA at the end, he seems to be trying to construct himself a Hufflepuff Secondary with which to build his own team to invest in.

tl;dr

Melinda May, Coulson, and Skye are all Hufflepuff Primaries/Gryffindor Secondaries. Coulson, however, thinks he should be a Gryffindor/Slytherin and often acts accordingly. Melinda May “burned” in Bahrain, now disillusioned with the viability of Hufflepuff’s warmth and dedication to people; after Ward and SHIELD’s fall, Skye is considering following Melinda into that burning disillusionment, but is buoyed up by the new promise of the Inhumans.

Ward, too, is a Hufflepuff Primary, like all of the original Bus members except Fitzsimmons. (There is a reason this team snapped to family so fast, despite some general philosophical differences.) Ward’s Hufflepuff is conflicted and twisted by his past, however, leading to his obsession with Skye, his ability to sacrifice Fitz and Simmons (almost because they were his, rather than despite that), and his unflagging loyalty to Garrett, who was one of his abusers. (The destruction of his original abusers, his parents and family, is possibly what allowed him to then bond more solidly and Puff-like to Agent 33). His ease with manipulation and consistent, capable misinformation suggest a Slytherin Secondary.

Fitz and Simmons share Ravenclaw Secondaries, which was likely one of the joyous bases of their friendship. Simmons, however, is a Ravenclaw Primary where Fitz is a Slytherin. This caused them no problems in their school days, likely because Fitz’s devoted Slytherin was comfortable simply following where Jemma’s Primary led her– onto the Bus and out of the lab, into conflict. However, once placed in a position where Jemma had to realize Fitz valued her above all else, and where Fitz had to realize that Jemma did not share his same prioritization, their easy relationship shattered in the beginning of S2. They have a chance to rebuild if they accept and respect each other’s priorities.

Prompt: Instead of Hinata becoming Izuru. It was Naegi and he's like a complete opposite of Izuru. Instead of long black hair, he has the same hairstyle he usually does except it's white like Hinata at the end of SDR2. And instead of being bored with the world, he's like twice as hopeful of the world and it's potential, but unlike Komaeda he is not a extremist, as he doesn't believe in most of Komaeda's unnecessary bs methods for hope. So he's like 60% Naegi, 30% Komaeda and like 10% Kiyotaka.

A/N I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this idea of Hopeful Izuru in the form of Naegi. I fell in love with it the moment you brought it up in chat and so I just had to write it.

What if Naegi Became Kamukura? But More Hopeful

When Makoto Naegi slept, it was Izuru Kamukura who woke up.

The first thing that registered in his mind when he woke up was the fact that he was still alive and how relieved he was to be still breathing. As soon as the thought crossed his mind, another quickly followed it highlighting the odds of the success of the operation, all the possible events that could have stemmed from it, and how he had just narrowly missed death and… losing his personality. He blinked.

That was an oddly detailed analysis that suddenly came to him. No, it wasn’t sudden, his mind reasoned. It’s just one of his many talents. He blinked again at the realization. This was… talent? Before he could even question it, his mind had already explained the whole thing to him. And surprisingly or perhaps unsurprisingly, he wasn’t at all overwhelmed by all these information. At the same time that he was in awe, he was also in understanding.

Naegi had become the SHSL Hope.

Now he had all the talents known to the world inside him and honestly, it was exhilarating. There was so much he could do now that his past self couldn’t do and he couldn’t wait to use these talents for the benefit of the world as countless scenarios unfolded inside his head. He could do this now. He had the strength to actually help people now. But he also had something else that would change the world. He didn’t just have talent, he had hope.

Hope. He had become hope itself.

He had always believed in hope and how everyone had hope inside of them even if they failed to realize it. And with his newly found abilities, he just confirmed that his belief wasn’t wrong. Everyone has the capacity for hope, with or without talent. Everyone. Without exception. If only people could recognize this fact then the world would be a far better place than it is now.

That’s why he was “born”, right? To spread hope.

He nodded to himself. That’s right. This wasn’t just about him anymore. While it was true that he may have accepted the proposal due to the selfish reason of acquiring a talent and standing on equal grounds with his classmates, he realized that this was bigger than that. He didn’t get just any talent but all of the talents. He had the responsibility to put it to good use. He had the hopes of everyone resting on his shoulders.

And he would do his best to live up to his title as SHSL Hope.

Hope Meets Despair

It was only natural for the SHSL HOPE to meet the SHSL DESPAIR.

“Kyaaah! Kamukura, look at me!” A girl squealed as she entered his room. She was all gung-ho until she paused as she took a good look at him. “Hm? Is it me or do you look more on the plain side?

“Ahaha, guilty as charged.” He weakly laughed. “Although I suppose this is the most exciting look for me as of yet.”

An adverse side effect from the operation was the change in his appearance. His eyes had turned from emerald to glow a golden gleam. It was odd but it didn’t affect his eyesight at all if not improved it. The surgery placed a lot of strain on his body, especially on his brain, so in retaliation, his hair had turned white. It had grown excessively long too but he decided to cut it since it felt off for him. He wasn’t allowed to dye his hair just yet since they were still monitoring him. He’s a bit bothered that his hair was no longer brown but it’s not like anyone else was going to see him.

“I guess it’s cool if you’re into those white-haired stereotypes.” She commented clearly unimpressed. And then she easily perked up her tone. “Hey, did you know? One of the stereotypes of white-haired guys is that…” She smiled mischievously.

She pulled out a knife and lunged forward.

“They DIE!!!” She screamed as she aimed for his throat.

Time slowed down.

Kamukura calmly sauntered towards her and swiped the knife out from her hands. Her eyes slowly widened in shock. Even without the blade, her body was still moving forward from the momentum so he stopped her by the shoulders. It made her fall back but only slightly, just enough for her to regain her balance and stand still. After which, he returned back to his seat as he casually crossed his legs.

The hands of time returned to normal.

“What the hell?” She asked with more of an annoyed expression rather than a confused one.

“That was dangerous, Enoshima. You could have seriously gotten hurt.” He chided lightly. It wasn’t that he was mocking her, he was just honestly concerned.

Which pissed her off even more. “Hello? I just tried to fucking murder you and you’re worried for moi? I knew they messed up with your head but seriously what is wrong with you?”

“Is it so wrong to worry about others?” He answered innocently as if there  wasn’t anything wrong with him at all.

“Are we seriously glossing over the fact that I’m your attempted murderer?” She asked him incredulously.

“Well I’m still alive, aren’t I?” He smiled, not at all bothered by the fact that she did try to kill him. Since no harm was done, he reasoned that there was no use to holding grudges. “It’s okay. I forgive you.”

“Like I wasn’t even asking for forgiveness. And what are you, a saint?” She whined, totally disgusted with the kinddness she was showering her with. She stomped her feet like a child pulling a tantrum. “When I found out about that there was a human experimentation, I was expecting a more fucked up test subject. Not… NOT THIS!”

He shrugged nonchalantly. “Sorry to disappoint you then.”

“We’ll workshop on that later.” She sighed exasperatedly and then moved quickly on as she leaned forward with a wide smile. “For now, may I interest you in some despair?”

Something about her smile was wrong.

“…Despair?” He repeated.

“Hmmm? You’re interested? You are! You totally are!” She giggled happily and then winked at him. “Well since you asked, I’d gladly explain. Brace yourself, mere mortal!” Her bright personality fell flat almost instantaneously as she asked with a straight face, “Hey, Kamukura. Isn’t it boring?”

He blinked at the question and echoed, “Boring?”

“Yes, boring.” She sighed listlessly. “You have all the talents in the world and now what?” Then she yelled angrily at the top of her lungs. “Everything’s become boring that’s what!” She regained her composure as she continued to explain, “You can do anything but it’s precisely because you can do anything that it’s not so exciting anymore. Such is the life you live now. Easy, predictable and ultimately boring.”

Admittedly though, there was some truth to her words but…

“If you continue to live as you are now then you’ll just be dooming yourself to a boring life. Hope is preexisting harmony. But despair is different.” Her face turned red as if the mere thought of it brought her happiness. “The heart-racing excitement of messy despair has a taste like you’ve never known!”

A taste that’s unknown…?

“You may be the world’s hope. You may save the world. But that won’t lead you to excitement. And so you won’t find salvation.” She continued in a condescending tone.

He’ll save the world but he won’t be saved? That’s just…

“Won’t you come join me in my despair?” She cordially invited him and then smiled that wrong smile of hers again. “Together we’ll have way lots of fun more than what your boring hope could ever give you!”

Boring… hope?

“You’ve got that wrong!” He firmly objected.

He had been patiently listening to her all this time but now it was his turn to speak.

“It’s true that with all my talents, everything has become easier for me and if I only had talent going on for me then maybe I would have been bored.” He explained with a slight frown.

If he only had talent then maybe he would have jumped at this opportunity. However, he had something else. He had something even greater than talent.

He placed a hand over his chest as his frown turned into a soft smile. “But I’m not bored at all. That’s because I have hope.”

She looked so offended by his words. “What? How the fuck do you get excitement from hope?”

“My hope alone isn’t exciting enough.” He knew that. But he knew that he  wasn’t alone in this either. “That’s why I want others to have hope as well. And when I think about how I’ll be able to do that, it honestly makes me happy.”

This feeling of hope, he wished that everyone else felt it too.

And wouldn’t it be great if he wasn’t just the only person spreading hope?  "The idea of not just me bringing out the hope in others but of others bringing out the hope in othe people as well is something that’s wonderful exciting to me.“

And with Kamukura’s hope, Enoshima despaired.

“What the actual fuck! I can’t believe I got cheated!! You’re not supposed to be this hopeful for human experiment!” She yelled at him crossly and thoroughly disgusted by him. “You’re only supposed to be the SHSL Hope in title as in SHSL Talented not become a literal human embodiment of hope. What bullshit is this?”

“You’re right. I only got my title of SHSL Hope because of my talents.” He agreed as he closed his eyes. When he opened them, there was nothing but unwavering resolve behind his gaze. “But I want to become more than just my talents. I want to properly earn my title and live up to its name as SHSL Hope. I will inspire hope inside the hearts of people and help them inspire hope in others.”

“Ugh! Stop! Enough with this hope shit!” She complained as she covered her ears and shook her head in outright rejection. This was too toxic for her. This was not how the plan was supposed to go. He was supposed to join her on the despair side not go on a fucking hope speech.

Isn’t this the worst for her? How despairful her situation is.

“And here I thought that I was about to make a new friend. Too bad.” She shook her head in disappointment. “I don’t think we’ll ever agree.”

“You don’t know that yet. I’m sure that if we talk this out, we’ll come to some form of agreement.” He refuted.

“Through what? Through hope? BLECK!! I’d rather die than have that shit in me.” She fake gagged dramatically and then paused as a scheming smile took hold of her lips. “Although wouldn’t it be more despairing if you, the symbol of hope, died instead?”

She made for another murder attempt. Only to be thwarted yet again by him. This time he had her in an arm lock and pinned to the ground as an added precaution. She was seriously going all out to kill him even though she had no chance of winning. It was concerning and also, just a bit sad.

“That’s no good. You can’t kill me and you know that.” He reprimanded her with a slight frown.

“What? So you’re going to kill me instead?” She scoffed fearlessly. “Go ahead. That’ll be despairing in its own way too.”

He just sighed tiredly. “Didn’t I say so before?”

“What are you talking about?” She asked confusedly.

Hope.

“I will inspire hope in the hearts of people.”

Then he flashed her his brightest and most hopeful smile yet.

“Even in you, Enoshima.”

Because what kind of SHSL HOPE would he be if he couldn’t give hope to everyone, including the SHSL DESPAIR?

Tokyo Ghoul and Masculinities: Pt 2

I’m not going to do in-depth theory or literature review in this section of the meta since I covered those things in part 1, so if you’ve not read that post, and you’re curious about where I’m coming from, please do!

So this set of characters is the largest group, and I have decided to called them the quasi-subordinated masculinities. This list can not and will not be exhaustive, as I do not have the time to analyze every male character in the series, but I hope it is representative, or at the very least, that it hits the high notes. Please keep in mind that “dominant” and “subordinate” in this meta refer to various fields of masculinity and the positions of various masculinities within those fields, and not to being a dominant or subordinate person or personality. In each of these characters, we see something approximating dominant masculinity, but then we see that masculinity subordinated in various ways.

Read on for analysis of Yamori, Mirumo, Banjou, Amon, Kureo, Arima, and Ui.

a/n: Based off the current spoilers I have read for Sakura Hiden. <3 edit: This is not a translation! It’s my one-shot based off the spoilers I’ve read.

“Sakura, you ready to get lunch now?” Ino asked as the two of them left the conference room inside of Konoha Hospital.

Sakura glanced briefly down at the clipboard she was holding as she flipped through a few pages. “I should just get something from the vending machine. I have to look over notes for Patient X’s procedure.”

“Sakura, you already worked hard enough. You need to take a break every once in awhile,” Ino said as she gently rested her hand on top of Sakura’s shoulder.

Sakura sighed as she lowered the clipboard. “There’s a lot to do. The children’s mental clinic needs extra attention and I am in charge of it all. But I can’t neglect my current patients either.”

“That’s what your juniors are for. They are there to help you. To support you. Like I am trying to help you now, Sakura. Come eat lunch with us all and then you can get back to work,” Ino insisted.

With a smile, Sakura removed Ino’s hand from her shoulder. “Thanks Ino. I know you look out for me. But I really need to work on this. Maybe next week?”

Ino sighed but smiled up at her friend. “It’s because of your diligence in working so hard as a medic-nin that you have gained the admiration of all your juniors. You’re so popular amongst them that even if you’re not there, you are still the subject of all their conversations.”

art of letting you go

“i wanna move on, but i’m scared of losing you.”

(the beloved triangle arc / if you want to listen to Tori Kelly’s song Art of Letting You Go while reading this, do it)

-riley-

I didn’t think it would be this hard to see Lucas with Maya; but as I see Maya get ready for their upcoming date, there came a sickening feeling in my stomach. And it wasn’t the first time:

I watched Lucas mount, ride, and fall off the bull. I watched his body hit the ground and it took all of Zay’s strength to try and stop me from climbing the fence before the bull was secured. I felt the fear come over me - which was a different kind of nausea, in a different part of my stomach. I also watched him get up off the ground, and the relief in my body was the best feeling I could ever imagine. It’s like I had an epiphany. I can’t lose Lucas and I knew that I loved him.

But then, I saw the way my best friend’s face filled with worry; and that was the first time I’ve ever seen her face look like that for someone. And I recalled her refusal of to Lucas riding the bull. And the feeling erupted in my stomach as my eyes switched to both my best friend and Lucas, who I just realized (after watching him almost die) I could never lose in my life. My best friend has feelings for Lucas. And I, on the other hand, have to forget this feeling that I was in love with him.

When I talked to Maya, the feeling came and gone; my throat felt dry, and I had a pain in my chest. I ignored it all because she is my best friend and she only deserves the best. And Lucas was it. That’s all.

And when I talked to Lucas and called him my brother, my throat felt dry and I had trouble breathing. But this was the right thing to do. For both of them. I’ll be okay.
