young justice characters

Young justice version! Spoiler: Bart’s in Jamie’s room

  • Nightwing: "Detectives! It's a lovely night, isn't it?"
  • Cop: "Nightwing, we're trying to solve a case. Do you know what happens when you interfere with a police investigation?"
  • Nightwing: "Uhh... The case gets solved?"

*Whispers* It is finally time… TIME TO REVEAL PROJECT DARKNESS (at the least that’s what I’ve been calling the entire project in my mind).

This a project that @uncpanda asked me to do and since I had nothing better to do at the time (things are getting busy at university). Basically, Lady Panda asked me if I could do some character design concepts for (YJ) Batmom/ Hell Cat, along with one more thing).

Since there hasn’t been any specific physical details about Batmom, I took the liberty for designing a plus size ver. design as well.

Here are some contexts:

  • Panda liked both designs for the Plus-Size version so I decided to keep both. The robe/yukata is a full yukata but is drawn like there is a missing half to it.
  •  The main weapon that we decided on was the clawed gloves (inspired from Cheshire (from Young Justice)

Overall, this was pretty fun and educational. Also, this tested by character designing skills and I say it turned out alright :33

SURPRISE @uncpanda! HERE’S AN EXTRA GIFT! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ Never felt so honoured that you asked me to do this project for you. It was a lot of fun! :D :33

As previously established in the show Young Justice, villain Queen Bee’s powers are said to only work on most men and some women (implictly straight men, bi people, and lesbians). This was further underlined in the flashback issue featuring the death of Garfield Logan (Beast Boy)’s mum, Marie, where Queen Bee is shown stroking her face affectionately before making her drive off a cliff.

In the 2014 Young Justice panel at Gallifrey One, the original panel as written by Greg Weisman and drawn by Christoper Jones with Marie and Bee was a bit more clear about what was going on here, only to be told by Editorial that they weren’t allowed to show even the moment prior to them kissing.

Greg Weisman points out in the Young Justice panel that in the very next scene Queen Bee was shown doing the exact some thing to a guy, but that was apparently OK.

Time to reveal the final part of Project Darkness!

So, if you haven’t see part 1 of Project Darkness here’s the little link:

Other than Hell Cat design for @uncpanda‘s Young Justice Batmom, she asked me if I could also do a design for the reader in her story “Growing Up Batty”!

I must say, Nightingale’s design was easier to do than Hell Cat for several reasons:

  1. The reader is best friends with Damian Wayne/ the current Robin. Also, the reader is still a ‘fledgling’ like Robin and hasn’t had the time to think of an official uniform like Nightwing and the other former Robins. That’s why I took inspiration for Nightingale’s designs from from Robin’s.
  2. When I was looking at references of actual Nightingale, there was a blue-throated Nightingales that have blue feathers around their throat area. So that’s where the blue scheme came from.
  3. I also took reference from Harley Quinnès design from “DC Superhero Girls” and had the idea of the two-tone colour idea. One being black and another colour. Something to give it a fun flare that is also a reference to Nightingale’s origin.
  4. Nightingale has the standard mask for now as it is a fairly common design among the Batfamily.

There is much of a difference between the Average and Plus size except for a few things. As you can see, the average size has shorts and the plus size has no shorts but “shoulder pads” that can be removed or put on for extra insulation or protection. Or if they don’t want to show much skin of their under arm. The boots are also different if you look closely.

Both designs have long gloves that can be rolled down to a normal size but otherwise, are left as is.

As for the cloak, I looked at the rest of the batfamily; where both Robin’s and Red Robin’s have a different colour underneath the cloak and the edges are also unique. I chose an light orangish-yellow colour for the underneath because it is the complimentary colour to blue but stark orange didn’t look well. The edges are drawn to look like basic, curve designs of feathers. The hood of the cloak has a slight tup to look like a bird’s beak. In during rain, the water won’t cling to the side of the face and will just drip away from the reader’s face; making it practical.

I don’t have any designed weapons for Nightingale since Batman would teach them to use the basic. Like the bat-a-rangs/bird-a-rangs, a boa staff, and etc.
